    We asked you all to send in your questions about dealing with money while traveling, and you gave us some awesome questions. The most commonly asked question was about how to get money once you're in a country. Is it best to bring cash and use a money exchange, or can you use your debit card at ATMs around the world? What about foreign exchange fees? What even are these, and how do they work when I take out money or use my debit card or credit card in a different country? What credit and debit cards should you bring abroad with you and how do you keep them safe when you're traveling to a new city every couple of days? How do I exchange money abroad? Can I withdraw money while traveling? What's the best way to prevent theft abroad?
    We broke up your questions into five money-related categories: credit and debit cards, ATMs and exchange fees, handling cash, saving money, and safety and money scams. We cover tons of information in this video, but here's a breakdown of the highlights:
    Credit and Debit Cards for Traveling - What debit and credit cards do we travel with? Are we loyal to any travel rewards programs? What is our recommendation for travel credit and debit cards
    ATMs and Exchange Fees: How do you use ATMs abroad and how do you get the lowest fees? How do you know where to get the best exchange rates? Do you use foreign exchange kiosks?
    Handling Cash: How much money do we travel with? How much cash do we withdraw before a trip? Overall, how do we deal with cash while traveling?
    Saving Money: What's the best advice for saving money on accommodation? Do we track our spending? How much does it cost to travel? How are we paying for our travels now?
    Safety and Money Scams: Have our cards been compromised? Do we use hidden wallets or money belts? Where do we store extra cash and how much do we carry every day? What are the most common money scams we see around the world?
    There's so much to talk about when it comes to dealing with money while traveling that we couldn't cover it all, but we did our best to share how we have made it work these past few years. If you have any more questions or have suggestions for a future video on a money-related topic, please drop it in the comments!

    Hey there! We are Nicole and Mico and in March 2021, we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and began traveling the world! We never thought we'd be making travel vlogs on TH-cam, but after realizing that we had a unique opportunity to share our adventure and make the world feel more familiar and inviting to anyone watching, we took the leap and picked up the camera! We hope our videos show how wonderful, delicious, and friendly the world can be.

    This was great! I have a credit union that I love, but we seem to always have issues with the ATMs when we travel. Which means we bring a "big bank" debit too. Not ideal. Especially when you get off the plane after 17 hours of traveling and you need to spend time calling your bank. I also love the online separate card number feature. Thanks for sharing!

      Glad you enjoyed it and found some features you liked! The card and the app really have some great stuff for travellers and we are happy to share it’s been working really well for us even after all this time. And yes, keeping things separate from our bank back home just helps us feel better with safety so this was also important to us.

      Yep, love my credit union, but ours even wants to know if we’re going to use the atm in just another state! (US) The card would probably do a Mission Impossible mini-explosion if I crossed a country border with it… 😂

    These are really helpful tips that I'll use for travelling this year. It's always good to hear from seasoned travellers what they find works. I never considered using the ATMs to get cash in another country thinking they offered poor exchange rates. My trips to Europe, Asia, and Mexico had often been to bring enough cash for the whole trip, and then find exchange centres where I can exchange a hundred or so dollars for a day or several days. I'll research the Wise card, since that seems very safe and convenient.

    Hey Nicole and Mico! I'm here in Cuzco Peru. I've been here since the beginning of April and yesterday was the day I finished the 5 day Salkantay trek. A bit of a delay going from Mountain Sky domes to Jungle domes due to landslides and my trek group wasn't able to get to Llactapata due to landslide but overall I enjoyed the entire 5days. 10/10 experience. I learned of the Salkantay trek through your video. In a few years I'll go back to Cuzco and do other treks like Cordillera Huayhuash, Inca trail, and Ausangate.

      Hey @marsdoria189 wow what an adventure! That’s so cool you did that hike, even with the wild sounding weather. Glad to hear you’re safe and that you had an amazing time! How was the altitude for you? Did you find you got sick at all? Honestly all those hikes sounds so good and we are hoping to return to Peru one day to tackle some of those adventures. Once again we’re glad you had a great time and thank you for sharing with us your great adventure!😊💪

    So question.. do you move the funds to the card and then do a ABM withdraw? So if you can use it as a debit.. is it accepted at say coffee shops or is the a min limit to use it at the stores?

    • @nicoleandmico
      @nicoleandmico  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's right, we transfer money to our wise card using the app (it just takes a couple of seconds once you've connected your bank account to the wise account, which was also very simply). Then we use the wise card like a debit card at ATM machines and at debit or credit pay points. there is no minimum amount needed to use the card in stores. We've used it for less than $1 before when we didn't have cash in a new country and never had any problems :)
