It needs 5 to 10 min to fix what is going on inside? Cool, so this can't be used for morning alarm. Try to explain to your boss; " My Alexa echo dot needed 10 min to fix things in side...."
I've come here after amazon support had already told me to factory reset the echo dot, and even that didn't make a difference. When I plug it out and back in (first thing I tried), it'll stop listening after a couple of hours. No, actually, the time frame where it works is shrinking, because now it'll freeze after like 10-20 minutes or so. All my other alexa devices are fine and this echo dot had been working fine at its location, 1 meter away from the router, for a year. It's 6 months past the warranty, so Amazon won't help. Interestingly, all sensors are still operating, as I can ask other devices for the temperature in the room where the malfunctioning echo dot is. Echo dot also shows a yellow light when I have a notification. However, it won't respond to voice commands if the latest restart was hours ago. Any tips for what I could do? Since I'm past the warranty, I'm willing to open that shell and fiddle with the hardware if that helps. Because if I can't fix this, that thing is ripe for the trash anyway.
Update for anyone reading: My Echo Dot just randomly started working normally again after... around a month or so? I left it plugged in and all, didn't touch it, occasionally tried to talk to it. At some point it responded as you'd normally expect again. So I assume in my case it was a problem on Amazon's side. Maybe they sneaked in an update without notifying me, no idea. The thought that I almost threw it away, jfc... But yeah amazon support was useless with this.
Maybe the microphone is full of dust? I vacuumed the Alexa on the part that has that kind of fabric around it and after that it heard me a little better.
@@legnametalzoa Hmm unlikely, because of its odd behavior before. When the problem was still present I could unplug it and plug it back in, then it would respond normally for a few minutes, but then it stopped listening until I did the unplug-thing again. Now literally I left it alone for a month, never vacuumed it, and suddenly it's working again. It also had issues with playing music, liking songs and skipping to a next song and stuff at the time. That's why I think it seems to be a software issue. Now everything has resolved by itself for some reason.
You're a Genius. I was really po'd because I have 3 of them & of course the one that I rely on the most stopped working. Unplugged, waited 1 minute, plugged back in & wammo, it's fixed!!! Thanks very much.
Thank goodness! Your video goes straight into the subject at hand. I absolutely love your energy!! Your advice worked perfectly with my Echo Dot 4th Generation, that had stopped responding to voice commands. Thank you from a new owner, and for keeping me from having a “Come Apart”!! I’m a subscriber for life!
I hope this fixes my 1st gen tower echo dot which seemingly has very laggy audio control and has a hard time picking up my voice. I want to turn it into a bluetooth speaker for my firestick.
I just connected my second echo dot. It doesn't respond to my voice commands. I wanted to play Christmas music on both -- in the kitchen and den. Only the original -- about 6 mos old -- in the kitchen played.
Of course unplugging it for 30 seconds is the first thing I tried. I used to be a computer tech, it's the first thing you learn. Solves 90% of problems. But in my case my Echo Dot then worked for 12-24 hours before freezing up again. I never thought of the wifi connection being a problem. I will try rebooting the router. Thanks. It seems to me Echo Dots should have a built in wifi test. You should be able to just say "Alexa, test your wifi connection". Not having a connection should NOT make them freeze up. That's a design flaw. It should just make eg. up-to-date weather reports impossible. But if it's no longer usable as an alarm clock, that's BAD design.
Saul goodman behind the camera???

I suppose that sounds a little like him.
Question anybody? What's a speed test?
