  • My 1998 Honda Valkyrie has ben sitting for almost 2 years in a good friends garage. Because of the pandemic, a wedding and various other obligations, I was not able to get it out of storage last year. This year I decided to go get it but after sitting for so long, what am I going to have to go through to get it started?

    It sounds like a well tuned engine. My Valkyrie doesn’t want to start like that , and doesn’t sound great like yours.
    Thanks for sharing!
    Great video !

      Mine has had a pretty easy life. I got it from a guy that was in his late 70s. He couldn’t handle the weight anymore. It ran a little rough when I got it because it had been sitting so long. A couple tanks of gas later and it was a totally different motorcycle.

    Yes, I am not surprised to see that your Valkyrie started up after almost 2 years in storage. I have a 2001 Honda Valkyrie and it is definitely one of the best motorcycles ever made in the history of mankind. Never get rid of that machine man, keep it as long as you can.

    Start it in neutral.

    Why crank it over without the choke on? Was that for suspense lol. And it sat for two years without a trickle charger.. yeah ok👌

    • @GroundhogzGarage
      @GroundhogzGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because I forgot to put the choke on? How often do you use a manual choke anymore?
      No trickle charger. I had a jump pack with me, because I too thought the battery would be dead or at least low. But with no parasitic draw, it’s entirely possible. Just depends on the condition of the battery. But you’re probably a battery engineer, so I won’t argue with you.

    sorry I call BS no way that ANY battery will last two years without a tender and did the owner put fuel stabilizer in the tank? NO WAY!!

      19, 531 miles, but I was close
      The bike rode 340 miles this weekend, but on a trailer. Why should I have all the fun!! I took it to Townsend, Georgia as a birthday gift to my son Joey. I gave him my VTX 1300 but a truck hit him and my grandson. They are both healed so now he gets a bigger, faster, more chromed, showroom finished cycle to show off up and down the East Coast, above Brunswick, Georgia. My suggestion to him was drive slower than me so people can see an icon on the road instead of a yellow streak flying by. I'm going to miss it!!

    Trophy comment was spot on... but it's never too late, and trophy creatures can be forgiving.
    Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking !

    Had a 97 that I sold because of bad knees. Getting my knees replaced this year and hope to get another one next Year. Great bike!!!!

    Mine is the same color but it was the condition of the bike that sold me on it. It's a lot of bike for 4 grand with only 38k on the clock. I' also have a 2006 triumph tiger that's a kik in the pants and a great get around town bike but the valkyries what I find myself on for the weekend adventures. And strangers still gather around it in awe even though it's a antique. Well at the end of next month happy trails.

    so your telling me you didnt have a battery tender on there, with that fast of a crank, and you added nothing to the fuel like stabilizer,,,?? I call BS if you say you didnt

    • @GroundhogzGarage
      @GroundhogzGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      You had to be there.
      1. I had all the tools necessary to get to the battery, a jump pack, etc. The video was supposed to be about getting the bike started.
      2. I always add stabilizer when I know it's going to be sitting. I also put stabilizer in my lawn tractors. If I don't, I'll have a tank of water/turpentine in the spring. I would make that recommendation to anyone. It's more important than ever with ethanol in gas.
      3. Why would I lie? Do you think I am that delusional that my channel with 800+ subscribers is going to have a viral video? Over starting a motorcycle?
      4. I don't know how old you are, but this is a carbureted bike. No computers, no radio, no parasitic drain on the battery.
      5. You're entitled to your opinion, but you're wrong. No battery tender, no jump pack, no clever editing, etc.

    Me? Not so lucky. Same exact bike... Yellow... 98... Sitting 2 yrs sitting... No start wo either. Carbs clogged. Argh. You used SRABIL?

    • @GroundhogzGarage
      @GroundhogzGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did.. I pretty much used some boat winterizing techniques. You HAVE to treat the gas or at least get ethanol free gas.

    Needs a new clutch though. You can see it lunge forward when you rev it with the clutch all the way in.

    A little tip for next time, twisting the throttle does nothing to help it start, as there no accelerator pumps in the carbs.
