    Visited Phuket (Kata beach) in Nov/Dec 2016. I ate only Thai food and it was outstanding and delicious. I tried a variety of soups, meats, seafood, dessert and fruits. Incredible food and people. Looking forward to going back very soon. Great videos, thanks.

      There are 3 different markets featured in this video. Phuket Weekend Market is open on Saturdays and Sundays from about 4pm till 10pm, Phuket Town Walking Street Night Market is only open on Sundays from about 4pm till 10pm and Banzaan Night Market is open every day from about 5pm till 11pm.

    I love the fish cake. In the USA, many Thai restaurants sell them about 1/3 the size of what I see shown here. Basically, an equivalent of 4 pieces of this size for $5.95 ( about 216 baht). In Phuket, you get 8 pieces for 20 baht. That is insanely cheap. 😋

    Another great video !! I can't wait to get to Krabi !! Standing in line waiting for a rental car so we can drive from Baltimore to NYC. Our flight leaves at 1:35 am on the 12th. I'm excited and nervous. lol Being we have one way tickets. Any hotel recommendations close to Ao Nang ? Thanks

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! That's a big move, I remember when I had that feeling. It really depends on your budget and how close you want to be to the action. Golden Beach Resort and Ao Nang Villa Resort are right on the beach and really comfortable. Swiss Chalet is a little bit further away, but I enjoyed staying there. When I'm looking for accommodation I use agoda.com, it has a great range of options and I've always found the reviews to be accurate.
      I hope that helps.

    10 minutes in and already looking forward to going. The only worry I have is how long some of the food has been sitting there for. Don't want to getting sick.

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The food is cooked as they need it and it sells very quickly. They don't want to make people sick, they want return business. I have eaten street food in Thailand nearly every day for the last 4 years and I am yet to have a problem from it.

    • @jessicak2884
      @jessicak2884 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +9/11 insidejob I think I have every right to ask if I'm going to ask if there's a chance im going to get sick. I'm paying for this holiday and don't want to be spending it in bed. Hope your day gets better, from your negative mind set :)

      +darrenb3 +Jessica K I saw that question a lot before I settled on darrenb3 as my 'go to' for food vids. Everyone says the same as Darren. I'm talking about the well known vloggers like Food Ranger and Mark Wiens. And Darren once did a vid going back to show how food 'disappeared' and also showed end of night 'leftovers' lol..it was insane! It really makes sense...their 'reputation' is everything. But I have to admit, at first I felt just like you, Jessica. Now I have 'faith' ;-)

    Hi Darren, We are going 3 weeks to Patong in October-November and I am enjoying your food videos and I am subscriber. All the food looks one great adventure. Can you advice us which western oriented market we should start, as this is our first time. We are from the Netherlands and around 70 years old. Hope to recieve a reaction.

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The two I would recommend are both in Phuket Town -
      Phuket Weekend Market (Naka Market): Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 4pm till 10pm. Google Maps coordinates: goo.gl/maps/b8mUnUZk2Mt
      And Phuket Town Walking Street Night Market: Open on Sundays from about 4pm till 10pm. Google Maps coordinates: goo.gl/maps/tARRQTo9TMu
      Enjoy Phuket :)

    I noticed the food are mostly not covered. What if someone sneeze into the food?

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Then the obvious would happen. People in Thailand are, as a rule, both very polite and hygienic and the convention here when sneezing is to both cover one's mouth and turn away from food and/or other people. After living in Thailand for 4 and a half years and spending many hundreds of hours at markets here I have never seen anyone sneeze into the food.

      There were some cooked scallops in that video about 1:59 in, 100-150 baht for 4-7 of them, depending on the toppings. I'll make a note of the price next time I see fresh ones at a market though and let you know.

      Yes, it is warm. Usually the food sells so fast that there's not time for it to get cold. If it has been sitting there for a few minutes generally the vendor will reheat it.

      If you mean in Patong, Malin Plaza also has a good range of street food and is open every day of the week.

      Yes, the vendors are very clean and good at keeping flies away.

  • @billc6762
    @billc6762 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem with street food in Thailand is that it is a hot country. There are flies everywhere. If the food has been sitting there for a few minutes, the flies probably had a taste before you do. American stomach is not built to handle that. I had my hepatitis shot before going to Asia and I still have to be careful
    I wouldn't mind trying the food that is made to order

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If that were the case I'd think there would be some evidence of flies sitting on the food in the video, but there are no flies in the video. The vendors are very vigilant with shooing flies away and they generally have fly traps around to reduce the numbers. I've made well over a hundred videos at markets in Thailand over the last few years and you won't see flies in any of those videos, because the flies are not there. I've met and worked with many people in Thailand from countries such as Australia, England, Germany, France, Japan, Spain, Italy and the USA, and they've all eaten street food here without any problem. However, there is plenty of food available in Thailand that is made to order, there are restaurants everywhere if that's your thing.

    I live on Phuket. I have lived in Bangkok, Jomtien Beach Pattaya and I will tell you that Phuket street food doesn't hold a candle to the street food in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Rai, Udon Thani, or any place that's north on the mainland of Thailand. Not even close and it's twice to triple the cost compared to Bangkok and the other places I mentioned. Phuket loves to fry so much of the food in really dirty and unhealthy fat and so many sweets. It's not a surprise so many of the Thai locals are obese here. Good luck finding Gai Yang or Moo Yang, cold freshly cut Watermelon, Pineapple, Cantaloupe, etc...You might find this in Patong but I don't go there, not my scene and it's about 15 kilometers south from my house in Bang Tao Beach, Cherng Talay. 8 years in Pattaya and and a few years in Bangkok, Patong is the last place I want to go. We just finished the Chinese Vegetarian Festival here and everything was fried, no salads to be found, not even Som Tom to be found on the street.

    This video made me sick to see how many plastic bags, plates, bowls, cutlery you accepted and the rest of the customers did. Disgraceful. The next time you go to 7/11 or any market bring your own bag and say no to plastic. If you don't you're part of the problem we have in Thailand in regards to plastic waste. So many of the items that you ordered did not require a bag. Next time you go to the store or out to eat at a night market just say Mai ow to plastic. Don't take straws or plastic cutlery from 7/11 either. They love to try and give out 5 plastic straws for one bottle of water and then they put it in a plastic bag.
