Greece, Serbia and Turkey i think are universally recognized by the people that play there as the craziest in terms of fans. Craziest in terms of things that happen however i would also have to say Russia. Players have had some crazy stories about Russia as well but Russian fans aren't as nuts
In addition to Greece, Serbian and Turkey fans you have to check out Lithuania as well. Specifically Kaunas Zalgiris fans, they may not be as crazy as the previous mentioned countries, but they are definitely as passionate as it can get. They hold one of the highest average attendance in Euroleague and there's a saying that basketball is the second religion in the country
08:19 Greece/Serbia. Im from Greece, like some of them players said you are unsafe before/during and after the game. Its been that way for so many decades that it became normal for us.
React to the other parts of this series as well , cause they start adding visuals to some of the stories the players are talking about, the ones that where captured live and it's crazy 😂
React to "the hidden gym" it's a short documentary on the Euroleague finals 2017 narrated by an American who went there for the first time. It's 25 minutes but it's probably the best content on euro basketball out there
Kind of a funny interplay there in one of the bits, I think the European fans and the Unions there have a connection - in the sense both gave the ordinary people power (usually the same people unionising as going to football and basketball games), a strong voice and showed them what they can do if they stick together; solidarity is at the core of both and despite our bickering, we understood the Planet of the Apes meme. Edit: Love the James Gist in the club bit
@@no_usernames-available I just googled which countries belong to the Balkans and this is what Wikipedia says: "There is not a universal agreement on the region’s components. The Balkans are usually characterized as comprising Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia-with all or part of each of those countries located within the peninsula. Portions of Greece and Turkey are also located within the geographic region generally defined as the Balkan Peninsula, and many descriptions of the Balkans include those countries too." So there is no generally accepted definition of the Balkans and some sources count Greece as a Balkan country, other sources don't, doesn't really matter either way. And yes almost all of Turkey is in Asia but their 2 most successful basketball teams historically seen are from Istanbul (Efes and Fenerbahçe) so some of Turkeys' best ultras are located in the European part of Turkey, which means technically speaking some of Europe's best ultras are in Turkey as I said.
@@benjaminbronnimann3966 bro im from greece u dont think ik my geography also balkans are the xountries rhat touch or are close to the Mediterranean sea except italy spain etc
@@no_usernames-available Well I still choose to trust what Professors of Geography who studied the subject for years say over your opinion, hope you don't take it personal :)
All fans in europe are crazy, but if we speak about basketball, then balkans are just the craziests. And i am not talking about national teams either (which hold aswell true but 100 times more).
Brother, not a fan of basketball but a fan of football ⚽. It's the same culture. The same fans go to a lot of different sports. Because most teams are not only just one sport team, like in the US. There's a ultra group for example that their all job is to attend this games, also ofc normal fans attend the games. One thing I must say is that most groups are almost like a gang. Don't go to a different city with a shirt of a rival team or neighborhood sometimes. One thing that almost every video forgets is that some (most) ultra groups are like organized crime type of logistics (also activities). Some have political ideologies, extremistsm agenda and so on. It's such a complex world. Some teams have a specific origin or have a different type of fan. For example, in Portugal, Benfica is normally the working class people, since it was founded by a working class type of people with a poor background.. On the other side, Sporting Lisbon was always associated with the upper class type of people, FC Porto is associated mostly with a region in northern Portugal, where's there's a big sense of "independence". Plus put hundreds of years of history and blood between some countries/cities and you have a melting pot of rivalries. In therms of football, I can say that the Zagred derby is known to be one of the most dangerous, Roma vs Lazio also known for multiple incident's, in Turkey, Galatasaray (European side of Istanbul) vs Fenerbahçe (Asian side of Istanbul) is by far the biggest. In turkey away fans can't enter the stadium's. In Portugal, where I'm from, Benfica (Lisbon) vs FC Porto ( Porto), two biggest cities in the country has become the biggest, but followed by Vitória Guimarães (in my opinion the most hardcore fans in Portugal) vs SC Braga. Hope this helps 👍
Him getting spit on by a fan and pretending like it didn't happen because the fans are so scary was pretty funny. Derby's against big rivals are the craziest games. Or if a team is about to get relegated (in football at least idk how euroleague ranking works)
If you start something against a fan, it might follow you where ever you go. You'd be on a beach 3 years later, and get it again. Understand that security, stewards and police are many times from the same area as the homefans. They cant do much.
like he said, Greece, and Eastern European countries are the heaviest. We are talking 'arena' as in the word 'arena' was invented Roman style (only in Roman times there were deaths) so all in all a.o.k. :) But for real, if a team loses, that's like an (war)attack on the city itself .. That's the reason why you have ultras and hooligans, to fight and protect. European countries/ regions/ cities/... have had many many wars over hundreds and hundreds of years in their history. This also brought along a few hundreds of thousands of slaves over the few thousands of years. So if you would think there were only black slaves, think again, my friend. The difference is that we don't complain about it. If I were to ask reparations from the people who invaded my country? The Romans, the vikings, the austrians, the french, the spanish, the germans, .. I would be 'rich' So after all that history that's the most humane way to settle the score, these days. Cheers mate
In Greece there is no such thing as mixed fans for more than 15-20 years now. It is sad but necessary cause people will die and had died. It's magnificent atmosphere but it comes with the drawback of at least 1000 people being willing to kill, literally. You watch it and say WOA. I watch it, I like it, I support it when I 'm in there, but I know.
Greece, Serbia and Turkey probably have the biggest basketball audience, it's probably 2nd to only football in those countries a lot of the basketball teams are affiliated with football clubs (the woman, I don't know her name, was😢 talking about Galatasaray and Fenerbache in Turkey, she's right they're both in Istanbul and absolutely hate each other) Galatasaray's football team was famous for their fans having a banner that said "welcome to hell" I've never been to Turkey but I know some people who have been to Galatasaray's old stadium (Ali Sami Yen stadium) they said as the away team, it was a horrible place to play
Now what would happened if America best players play against best Europa players? That would be nice, Yanis Athetacompo, Nikola Jokic, Luka Docic ect. I think Americans would be underdog
If you ever want to come and visit and see with your own eyes.. hear with your own ears.. and get best experience which you remember forever.. that's derby's of: Panathanaikos - Olympiacos ( Greece ), Galatasaray - Fenerbahce ( Turkey ) and Crvena Zvezda ( Red Star ) - Partizan ( Serbia ) .. All that crazy fan videos which you can watch on YT is from all this teams.. Living in Belgrade, didn't miss in last 15 years any matches ( live ) it's normal for us to see this and be part of it, for foreigners it looks insane.. but we are pationate and we love our clubs and every game is like a battle.. Many things happening out of the court.. and let's leave it.. like that.. Most important thing is to understand, it looks like all that fans are on some drugs or something.. nope they are not.. they just live for their teams and games..
If u want to tell to americans how is the rivalry in Europe, dont choose clubs in USA.It's simple:rivalry in Europe are like rivalry between Israel and Palestine🤣🤣
Actually that is valid for Greece, Serbia, and Turkey..there the Basketball Fans are nuts and hostile. But that is by far not "whole Europe" in order to speak generalized about "Europe" those 3 countries are in that regard of Basketball fan behavier just "anomalies" to be honest.

But the thing is, most of them don't touch regular people. They keep their beef for themselves, so we don't feel THAT unsafe, just a bit.
Serbia, Greece and Turkey are just craziest in Europe for sure
And it is almost the same in handball and volleyball. Insanity and passion.
If you go to a game humble and neutral with NO showing off, you will easily walk out of there with no problems and an awesome experience!! :))
