Great video and well thought out. I gutted two aluminum flashlights and used one for my steadicam but I think I'll make a grip with the second flashlight I still have. Thanks for the good idea.
Thanks again for another great DIY. I will try with an extra unused "throttle side" motorcycle grip today when I build one. They have a larger inside diameter. I'm just not sure what that would mean for the PVC pipe section. I usually install my grips on my dirtbike with gorilla glue. It stays uncured for long enough to be slick, and when it cures, it isn't going anywhere. You probably have something similar (Elmer's?) around if you care for a permanent install.
This is going to be my next build! I have wanted to make this one for a while now. I'm gonna do it a bit differently so that it's much easier to assemble.
You can put air in the end of the while you cup your hand around it the air will create just enough swell to push the grip on you have to keep the air going in the whole time though so you'll need a triggered air line similar to what you find at a gas station
Here's at tip you might want to use to get the grip on, Get some zipties inside the grip, then pull the grip over the tube(it decreases contact area so less friction) and just pull them out when you're done!
To get the rubber grips on something sticky/tight Mentholated spirits get a good amount on there and just twist it around and around/leave it for a few hours and it will dry out.
Hair spray is really Lacquer paint and dries too fast. you could use enamel if you want it to permanently set up. But I would do like the sign painters that apply decals to vehicles. They just us soapy water, and the water dries pretty quick. The other thing is you are trying to get the grip over a raised edge.. I think just buying a very short sleeve of pvc that is the same size as that hex plug you are trying to go over, just slide that on first. the grip should hold both. or pvc the other.
Nice one. Although a Silicon Pistol Grip will only cost $ 32 on ebay (I just got one for my rig) and they are really comfortable. But of course this is 3 times cheaper :)
If you used 3 couplers and 2 short pieces of pvc between them, then the handle would be the same diameter instead of having a 'lip' to go over with the rubber or foam grips.
hi, I want a rig for filming skateboarding. what is the best option You want to record from a low angle and do you have a good video where i can make it thanks
I dont think theres a wrong way. If it works, it does what you need it to do, then it was the right way. Im just lazy and try to think of the fastest and easiest way to get the same/similar results....lol Im going to be working on something a little different, just for S&G really, but I will post to the group page for chuckles once its done...lol

The PVC plug needs the coupler to fit into. It won't attach to the PVC scrap without one.

My thoughts exactly. Used this trick to put some bike grips onto my cousin's wheelchair handles.
Not sure why it wouldn't be. Be careful, of course!
Taper the coupler by gripping the bolt in a drill, spin it while sanding a bevel at the other end. Then, the grip should slide more easily
This would be so handy for both my GoPro and my T2i. Thanks for sharing.

Dagnabit. You're right!
Can you plz do a review on the manfrotto quick release 410 pl. I would like to know if it is better than the quick release that you usually use.
It doesn't really work that way. Unless I'm doing it wrong, which is always very possible. :/
Can you please make the Glidecam style Steadicam video? I've been waiting sooo long for it! :)

Been trying for awhile and keep failing. Will keep trying.
how far out should the nut stick out when its all said and done so that it doesn't go too far into the camera?

whyt didnt u just use one long bit of pvc instead of the struggle with different sizes?
ah ok thanks, i cant ever find one in the uk, i dont think the y do them?
Awesome stuff on the channel! Keep it up! Is it stable enough for a 7D?
Seriously? I made an almost similar grip 4 days ago!
I made it as support under the Canon 70-200 mount. :)
That is what my dad taught me and it works very well.
hi can u make a video for diy Lens Adapter for 50mm lens to nikon D5100? thank u so much. :)
hi,

and do you have a good video where i can make it
thanks
the 1/2 inch PVC didnt have matching plug sizes?
Hairspray might work for PVC, but if anybody plans on using some type of metal tubing, use WD-40. Works in the same way, it's what I use for my bike.
very cool idea
We miss you Scott!
Thanks Martin!
You and good lady OK?
Still in Alaska?
Use a pressure air gun. Blow the air in between the pipe and the rubber grip and push it in. It will do the job.
That is very clever. thanks!

Can you use that on gopro?
Sure, as long as the GoPro has a tripod mount adapter.
cool
eaven better: warm soapy water and it will go in like a charm!
Haha, alright, thanks.
