One cool thing to use as well, especially in place of using the manual arrow to place the sub model, is the "Activate Buffer Exchange" option. On the step where you place the lid, you can select the lid itself, activate the buffer and raise it up from the lower box. It will automatically place an arrow to show that you are supposed to place the sub model onto the top of the box.
Thank you so much Boone. I've been kind of struggling with Studio and with trying to submit files to Rebrickable. This will help me a ton. Also having a touchscreen and no actual mouse makes Studio very tricky. But your tutorials are very helpful. I've watched multiple tutorial vids you've made. For now this was the last piece missing. Thank you very much.
I'm 2 Videos into your channel and you've made my life so much easier, I designed my first ever MOC 2 weeks ago and I've been dying to make instructions for it but the whole process just looked super daunting and I've been doubting myself but you've made it look so much fun and I can't wait to start on my instructions tomorrow, I really love the way you think when making instructions (how would I want to build this) absolutely awesome and definitely something I would have not thought about but glad that I know about it now.
Awesome, was trying to figure out how to flip a model over in the instructions and 11:44 was super helpful, better than anything else I found on reddit or even the official Bricklink page! Thanks so much, subscribed :)
@@msbrickkitten6882 sorry I didn’t see this question sooner! It is possible through parts designer, that is a separate program from studio, but it’s also from Bricklink and they work well together. I’ll put that on my list of tutorials to tape in the near future.
Thanks for the tutorial. It's super helpful. Is there any way to make the submodel visible on each page? There seems to be a checkbox for that but it's always "on" even on pages where there's no submodel. Thanks!
Thank you for a helpful tutorial. Have you figured out a way to put rubberbands in the instructions? i am working on instructions for a simple project for summer camp kids. it uses a rubber band piston.
6:50 Since I can't find a button or setting for it, I assume there's no actual way to completely turn off the visibility of earlier steps? I'm breaking down a fairly complicated model into steps but trying to peer through a the mass of semi-transparent bricks is making it really tedious!
Thanks for this great video! I have a question about it. By making the instructions I found out I made a mistake in my model (I forgot one brick). Is it possible to save the instructions and use it again when I undo the mistake in my model?
Yes! I have done that many times. The instructions maker will save everything that’s unaffected by the changes you make. It works surprisingly well, IMO. Thanks for watching 😁
Thank you for the video It was extremely helpful. My grandson and I just found the Bricklink studio and will hopefully spend many hours on it. Just One question how did you select the pages at the side of the instructions to make them four on a page please? Many thanks and kind regards.
Great video. Do you know if there is a way of doing a bill of materials for a submodel? I have a build that has three submodels that could be their own kit by themselves. I was wanting to do three separate instruction manuals for each phase. Do you know if that is possible?
The only thing I wanted to know was how to drag a page before or after a nother one but hasn't benn told during this video unfortunately. Thanx for the rest of the informatinos any way!
A very helpful tutorial! I just have a question. With the model I'm designing, there are four legs with three sections to them; the foot, the calve, and the thigh basically. In the instructions creator, there is a text button which is what I assume you use to type "x4" to symbolize you need to make four of that submodle. Now, the question is, how do I not make the three other versions of these separate submodels appear in their own steps, but appear in the instructions alla the final page where we see the whole model together? I apologize if my question looks complex. Edit: I found out how to do what I wanted. Once again, thanks for this helpful tutorial!
Thanks for the vid; very helpful. I have a problem I cannot figure out. I add bricks as temporary supports early in a design. Later I want to remove them. I cannot figure out how to get studio, nor the instruction maker, to represent this as a step. When I remove the temporary bricks, they are not just removed from the current step, but from all previous steps as well. Have you ever done this or know of a workaround? Thank you in advance for any help here and best regards.
Perfect tutorial, it helped me learn everything I needed to know fully. Feels like I plugged myself into the matrix and instantly learned kung fu. Thank you Boone Builds! 👍👍
Thanks for the video im trying to make a moc where to hinge piece need to placed in one Position in the instructions then folded up in the next step can you help please Thanks
if you build pieces on a hinge or ball joint flat for easier instructions but then want to rotate and pose them on the final model picture is that possible?
Is there a way to insert some sort of submodel directly on the same page, like Lego does? If I want to form a piece out of just a handful of bricks, I dont need it to take it's own whole chapter.
I have a question: theres a step in my moc where u just lay a large subassembly onto the main model without connecting-would this be able to show the laying of that assembly even though it doesnt connect?
first of all thank u for the nice explanations in your tutorial but i have a question i'm trying to find a way to visualise black bricks beter using a white outline on the bricks (so you can count the studs) is this possible in studio?
Can you apply different page layouts to each page. When you applied the 2x2 layout it did it to all steps automatically. What if i just wanted it on one page.
Hey, sorry I didn’t see that earlier. If you apply the layout to one page, then apply a different layout to the next page, it should keep the layout of the previous page. Try that and let me know if you have any other questions. 😊
Am I doing something wrong? In the instruction page layout when doing multiple builds using submodel e.g. 2X, the parts in the blue box do not multiply.
I am trying to figure out how to show repeated steps without having to delete the repeated pieces. I currently have only one set in a submodel which doesn't reflect the actual number of pieces needed for the rest of the build. How do you make it so the correct number of pieces are included in the bill of materials without having to repeat the steps? Trying to cut down on unnecessary paper usage.
But is it possible to make instructions that show the pieces with an arrow from them to where they need to be inserted in? ( not sure if the new official lego instructions have this, but the ones that i had from the 90's had like 15 steps for smth very complex with the help of what i mentioned. Now smth like that now would take 60+ steps)
Great tutorial, thank you very much. I am very new to Studio and have successfully created 2 instructions for 2 ball contraptions in 1 week - it speaks more of the versatility of Studio than my competence :). However... I got to the end of one of my build instructions and decided to delete a huge section so that I could create that section as a sub model. When I went back and clicked step 1 in the 'Build screen', the model is still 90% complete (the section I deleted has gone, which is what I wanted). Why does it not take me back to Step 1? Can I go back to where I laid the first brick so that I can edit the build as prep for the sub model creation and insertion?
Is there a way to select multiple pages while in the step editor to create a sub model within the instructions editor? Or does it have to be done in the build mode?
Sometimes you want to pre-attach a few bricks before adding it to your (sub)model. The official LEGO instructions often do this in a small box. Is using a submodel the only way to do this in Studio? Thanks.
I appreciate the tutorial, but I must be over thinking everything or not understanding it at all. Half of the time the "bricks" don't "attach" to other "bricks" and then the instructions just get too complicated. I give up.
when i put my model in instruction mode random pieces disappear. They're in the same group and I cant figure out why they disappear. I cant seem to find anyone one the same issue online either.

Now it all makes sense! Thanks so much for this video, it's going to save me so much time.

Great tutorial! I just made a scale titanfall moc and I just made the instructions, !thanks!

Incredible helpful and understandable explanation for someone like me who just started out exploring studio. Thank you very much for this tutorial!
You’re very welcome. Glad it was helpful!
I can make LEGO instructions now! I FEEL SO POWERFUL!! Thanks, Boone!
Great tutorial videos, best I've seen yet, thanks!
Great Video. Moto helped me get some instructions of a model I worked on for a charity event done, and this really reinforces what he taught me.

Does it work in phone? I don't have a laptop or computer😢
when I try to export the instructions, why does it say that I don't have permission?
Well, now I know how to make instructions for my 4000+ pieces technic model. I also realize I have to remake all my submodel before I can do it 😢.
Not sure if anyone has asked this already but do you know of a way to add a front and back cover page to the instructions?
I would render the image of the set and add itt in a pdf file
I think they're X-ray specs, not 3D-glasses.
