I still consider seeing Chris and The Saints in a small club in Pittsburgh back in 1987 as one of, if not THE, best concerts I have ever seen. Twenty one people (I counted). Set was great. "Messin' With The Kid" was the highlight. Went backstage with my WTCS passes. Chris asked me: "What just happened out there?" I told him that 21 people just experienced one of the greatest concerts they will ever see! Having been in radio for 36 years now, I still consider Chris Bailey my favorite rock star that I have ever personally met...
Great anecdote mate. It's those moments that keep us still as interested as ever in music old and new (I'm nearly 50). Heading along this evening to a small club in Sydney's inner west to see The Aints - a band fronted by Ed Kuepper doing a bunch of stuff off the 1st 3 Saints albums. Should be a treat but yeah - would have been killer if Chris was fronting.
It ain't too easy being a young man Going round in circles, honey, all the time You've played their game now for so long can't see What in the world are they trying to do to me? Sometimes you get that old lost feeling Sometimes it hits you when you're feeling down It's that old feeling, honey, brings you down I say it makes you crawl... You walk down the main street out in the city See all the girls now they're so pretty But all their smiling faces, yeah are gonna pass you by It don't make no difference no matter how hard you try Sometimes you get that old lost feeling Sometimes it hits you when you're feeling down It's that old feeling, honey, brings you down I say it makes you crawl... Ya hangin' 'round in alleys, ya hangin' 'round in bars Just looking for some fun but you don't get none and there you are... Looking for some action looking for some fun but you are down in the gutter And you don't get none, oh no, just nothing left to do at night, yeah How do you feel now that it's all over Your games all melted under the sun Just like a kid, take a trip down to the sea Stuck out in the middle and there's just nothing left to say But, sometimes you get that old lost feeling Sometimes it hits you when you're feeling down It's that old feeling, honey, brings you down I say it makes you crawl... Yeah.
Great stuff! Love this track. The Saints and Radio Birdman are among the best bands of the 70s. I would have loved to have seen them live. Pure unadulterated raw power!
Alway loved this song. Nothing take me back to '77 quite like this. When we were listening to this back then I would never have dreamed I'd still be pulling it out 40 years later. You leanr that some things never change.
@@borisbevan8271 That's sort of the sadly funny thing, they refused to wear the punk gear just to sell their image unlike The Pistols who were all show and less substance and yet The Pistols got all the recognition for Nevermind the Bollocks while I'm Stranded went unnoticed outside OZ.
Not sure how we "ignored" them in the UK. I saw them countless times in London in my teens, most notably bottom at The Roundhouse on a triple-bill - Ramones, Talking Heads, Saints - and (I'm) Stranded was one of the first punk singles released here. Always fantastic, I was mates with bass player Kim, purely from seeing them so often. I mean all punk music was shunned by mainstream labels and radio for the first year (1976-77) but I wouldn't say it was ignored - there was a small but enthusiastic (and ever-growing) audience for this great music.
That's what made these guys cool especially Bill, they were even more punk than The Pistols cos they refused to dress in the "uniform" of safety pins and mohawks, they were just themselves, the music was what they were about and yet everyone knows The Pistols and nobody knows The Saints, its tragic.
Lucky to be a Brisbane boy. Maybe isolation from the Sydney scene or Joh - whatever the reason, we made our own sound and this reminds me better than anything else of those days.
Oh you lucky ones born in ausytalia. All my influence coming from your country.saints ceibate rifles birdman new christs hoodoo gurus .Cheets from greece
No fashion . stipped down rock n roll. The saints are the best. Is that a orstalia thing? I have said the the best music in the last 10 years is coming from australia. From the uk.
I totally agree with your celluloid heroes comment...i've been saying that for years....but it must have gnawed at me for a month before i figured it out the first time
I always loved the way they kept the garage feel along with the punk energy and the melodic pop sensibility. We were a bit spoiled in the Seventies.

Nick Cave would agree with you!
@@waynereynolds2160 loved that gig!
USA had The Ramones, UK had The Sex Pistols, we had The Saints. All great bands.

Punk is an attitude, not a fashion. Love the grainy Dylan singing from Bailey, plus the Your Time Is Gonna Come and Stray Cat Blues progressions.

I've been listening to this song for 40 years.
I love this band so much.
Oui
Love the Saints...This is one of the best songs ever written
The UK tended to ignore all the best bands in the late 70's, The Saints were one of 'em and this is one of their best.

Too punk for punk

Well.... They're from Brisbane, Australia. It is in the southeast corner of Queensland. A swank and luxurious place of enchantment really. Just saying

One of the best punk tracks - and bands - ever.
they had long hair . dressed in jumpers and slacks so uncool they were cool. the best band ever. not about the image it's about the music..
jall punk rock from late 70s to mid early 80s was good.

@@optimisticwhovian1726 Not what I heard. In the UK they were shunned fir their bad style....long hair etc., hippy hang over stuff...
this stuff gives me shivers ... thank you .
For me this is pure punk rock ...REAL punk rock !!!
Still my favourite Saints song.
Lucky to be a Brisbane boy. Maybe isolation from the Sydney scene or Joh - whatever the reason, we made our own sound and this reminds me better than anything else of those days.
The best punk rock band ever !!!
Saints( I'm Stranded) best album 1977!
How do u feel now that it's all over? You're stuck out in the middle and there's nothing left to see
How do you feel now that it's all over. That's the standout line.
It brings you down,I said it makes ya crawl...
Yeah I saw them in brisbane years ago late 80s I think wicked song writer- composer i still get buzz listening to them now wickerd😍
This is Rock n Roll.
RIP Chris Bailey

BEEN A WHILE....THANKS
Beautiful little tune. Kinda reminds of some of the Ramones slower songs.
Great band !
This song is incredibly similar to Sway by The Rolling Stones
Almost the same chords & phrasing as Stray Cat Blues
Solid state guitar amp(like Ramones first)!
Farkin'Epic..
I cried in woolies to this.
My life story as a teen. Dug the Saints big time.
Farkin'Epic..
orstralias finest !
classic!
Beauty
Its absolutely bonkers how when one hears this song now, it sounds like a mix of Iggy Pop, Rancid, and Green Day
No fashion . stipped down rock n roll. The saints are the best. Is that a orstalia thing? I have said the the best music in the last 10 years is coming from australia. From the uk.
I was there.
Godamnit, this song brings me to a deep place,it’s guttural ffs
I totally agree with your celluloid heroes comment...i've been saying that for years....but it must have gnawed at me for a month before i figured it out the first time
I never realized how much this song sounds like The Kinks Celluloid Heroes.
Z Channel
Long bow.
It also sounds somewhat similar to the Rolling Stones' "Sway" off Sticky Fingers.
Long live AUSSIE PUNK,
Solid state guitar amp(like Ramones first)!
Actually a vocal PA amp, produced by Overeem/EDA (Brisbane), and yes, solid state.
Does anyone else feel a little of the Stones' "Sway" in this?
yes, i feel 'sway' too
Definitely
I've been listening to both on and off for more than 40 years and never noticed - until now!
😍
Sounds like the Stones, just can’t put my finger on which song.
plz post a nice loud copy of stranded ? Plz ? ! :D THX !
Anybody else notice how Chris Bailey has out sized hands
H.Q. Wagon you’re right, they do look like pretty big grippers
