WARHAMMER 8th ed BATTLE REPORT: Orcs & Goblins vs The Empire

Taking a break from our little tournament, and today it's just a straight up fight between an Orc & Goblin warband and the stout defenders of The Empire! With a chance of the two sides meeting in the next round of the tournament this is a crucial game for each army, testing and probing their opposition in case of a match up in the semi's!

The knight unit with GM in are immune to psychology so no need to test for panic. Another enjoyable report.👍

Nice OG orcs and goblins BSB! That guy is certainly a relic of a bygone era.
Also, make that BSB a BOrc next time to quell. It’s great that a single character can cover that for you.

So, the river trolls were deployed outside the generals leadership bubble? Did you remember Stupidity?
7:45 Remeber, the redirect of the doomdiver does NOT have to go straight back the same way it was originally aimed (though this may have been the case in 6th or 7th ed?). You can choose it to go d6" in any direction from where it landed. Also, notice that it doesnt land on a point, it IS a template weapon using the flying gobbo models round base, which means it can actually hit more than one unit if it's aimed correctly.
34:25 The trolls would have stumbled forward.
36:56 The Demigriff runs away from the CENTER of the savage orcs, which means the pursuit does not take them into contact with the fanatic, but rather towards the halberdiers.
44:01 Forgot free reform of the savages?
55:39 When trying to reform after losing combat, you still use the Ld from the combat result (not 100% sure about this one), which means he failed on 7.
All game: Fists of Gork is remains in play, is it not?

Yes with the River Trolls completely overlooked stupidity when deploying them, think it was me that was suffering from it at that point...
36:56 I checked the BRB and it states the unit turns about its centre and flees directly away from the enemy unit, not that it flees from the centre of the enemy unit... could see it argued both ways and don't have a FAQ to hand.
55:39 You are indeed correct, the losing combat reform is taking with modifiers from the break test. Honestly never realised that!

Your BSB didn't pass the test to reform btw. It's taken with the same modifiers as the break test

I'm a little bit late for the party with this... but here's my answer to your question considering 31:34... no, you don't use the cannon's tougness 7 against the hits from the Mangler Squigs. When the rules say that hits are distributed as per shooting, that actually doesn't make the those hits shooting (impact hit are distributed like shooting too, but they are still close combat hits). So you should have used the crew's toughness of 3.

Very nice vid mate. Haven't played in several years (since WHFB VI ed. ). Still have most of my minis but rule books are just painting guides i guess. Do they use a online rules set now since AoS came out?
Warhammer Armies Project has a pretty big following (also called WHFB 9th) which is all community based. For us it's pure 8th ed though!

Something to consider for the Grandmaster is the white cloak of Ulric, sword of anti heroes, TOTS, Enchanted shield.
He also makes IC knights immune to psychology so no panic test needed

Why does he need the Enchanted shield if he already comes with a 1+ armor save?

We'd struggle to do a pure khorne list, but they do feature in our Daemons of Chaos army. They reached the semi's in our mini-tournament so will be back for that battle before too long!

Correct, they're destroyed if they fail the break test. Head was all over the place that game!
didnt think you could use enchanted sheild or any magic weopon etc more than once
Can't have more than one person carry the same item (on the same side), but unless they specifically say one use only then yep they're good for the whole game.
When the knights pursued the boars they don't go straight, that's an overrun. Instead they would have gone off at an angle and probably hit the chariot. Key because you'd have killed it and reformed ready for a charge into the boyz.
You know you're giving opponent bad advice too? Don't roll the BSB's panic test before the General, cos if he goes, the Shaman ain't getting a reroll is he? Also where you remove casualties matters!
I'd always roll BSB first. Both Ld8 and if the BSB rallies the others get the re-roll. No point rolling for the general with no re-roll then doing the BSB when there's no one left to benefit from his re-rolls. (Though admittedly the BSB should have been removed anyway when be broke making the point moot!)

@@idiotproofdalek Can't use the BSB re-roll if he's fleeing, so makes sense to rally him first so the other characters can use his re-roll. Especially when they're the same Ld. Becomes interesting when the General is higher Ld, as then a toss up between passing higher Ld with no re-roll, so then the BSB can use the higher Ld. But in this case def rally BSB first so others get his re-roll.
Bunker Gaming we are arguing at cross purposes lol. I meant the panic tests not the Rally tests :)
@@idiotproofdalek i'm a bit lost on this one - if you haven't rolled for the bsb potentially panicking, you can still use the bsb reroll - that's how i've played it, although it seems like swerving the spirit of the game if he's also a flee risk. A bit jobsworth maybe. I think the thing to do in the spirit would be bsb first, and then resolve the rest whether they should be inspired by a rallied/steadfast standard.
