apologies in advance as my comment might be percieved as offensive but im honestly shocked by the quality of this video considering the size of your channel. entertaining, informative and well made. subscribed! turns out youtube is actually capable of good recommendations
At 7:42 I really agree with him saying having a basis would help... Outside of my language app that speaks everything to me as I learn it/Anki sentences, I've cut right back on immersion. I've tried but I just find incomprehensible input SO demoralising when it's 90% of every video 😭 (Don't get me wrong it's great listening practice, with the sounds becoming clearer and clearer over time...) But they're still just sounds... So for now I'm gonna keep building that basis; (App takes me through N5, then N4, then a conversational course that's N5 - N3...) And as I go through I'll dial the immersion back up 🙂 I just need to feel that structured progress so I don't feel like the dumbest boy alive 😂
That whole accepting ambiguity part is definitely the hardest thing about active immersion I've struggled with it intensely in the beginning as well. I can't say that I recommend dialing back the listening but if it works for you then go for it! In the end it's also all about finding what works for you I suppose
@@theoddsheep_was_unavailable Oh I'll be back asap, I just NEED to understand more than 20 words in a 20 minute vlog 😅 I think immersion is a hugely important part of the overall process... I just can't handle the severity of the ambiguity at this stage and that's totally my fault, but we'll see where we are in a few months 🙂
@@theoddsheep_was_unavailable Speaking of, I was at his place last weekend and we were talking about how great it is that you're uploading again. I think that there is a focus and dedication to the videos that I haven't seen in a while. Like you're actually attempting to continue the series. Might be because you also exercise restraint. It doesn't become a grandiose spectacle of dedication that turns into a black hole of perfection. It's realistic and feasible.
@@higherqualityi think that is spot on honestly. I think the biggest difference is having a concrete goal that i make videos for, and having a better structure/ workflow to work within so videos aren't this beast to conquer every single time. Just asking myself "what is the point of this video" and structurely working towards that makes it concrete and makes it harder to lose myself in the process honestly The 4 main questions that I try to answer with all of these videos is "is it engaging?" "Is it interesting" "is it adding value for someone?" And "what can I add to it that's specially mine" that combined with the structured workflow/ pipeline makes the series pretty doable. Also making the main subject of the videos my exchange to Japan narrows down what my niche is and what I make stuff about. I am going to break off language learning for now because I've kinda said everything I wanted to but video ideas are much easier now.
Yeahhh I'm kinda talking about the same things as matt vs japan but i try to give my own spin to it. This is probably the last language related video because i kinda said what i wanted to
It should work but the one problem with Japanese unlike must languages is that the writing system is not phonetic so once you can read the text you already knows what it means anyway. while with most languages you can learn to read quickly even in languages like Korean or thai you can learn to read quickly even if you don't understand what you are reading you can then learn from reading things in video games. with Japanese i often like to use text to speech on websites .but in video games you can't use those things games with voice acting are nice but not that common .but another problem with video games that is not a big deal with Japanese is that a lot if games just don't support multiple languages. Japanese has a lot that is why so many people want to learn it .but even now my 2 favourite games are not available in Japanese only English French and German. and if you try to learn languages not from Europe or east Asia like Hindi or Arabic you will not find much if anything even dutch has more support in certain games like the sims. but when it comes to other forms of media like movies you can find them in all languages .the big languages get dubs of popular American and Japanese movies but even the small languages just make their own movies. but with it comes to games the developers will often not even include their native language .
That's true. The writing system part. However it does become easier the more kanji you know. Many times you can deduce the meaning and the reading of the word from previous words you know! Language support is a problem though, it's something I also found to be difficult sometimes. Luckily Japanese is a popular language for dubs so I guess it is the easiest with that. I have honestly never seen a dutch dub for any game I've seen ever hahaha
@@theoddsheep_was_unavailable for Dutch you got some random games without voice acting like the sims or streetfighter 4. its actually quite a lot when you compare it to certain other languages with bigger populations like hindi or arabic .its just that the most popular games don't have it and most people here don't really even want it. but with voice acting the only stuff i can think of are some old crash bandicoot games. and even older educational games for kids like Freddy fish. basically one of the first games with voice acting lol .

Why would that be offensive??? Thank you so much!! That is a really nice compliment!
@@theoddsheep_was_unavailable it's at least backhanded 😭, I had low expectations. you proved I shouldn't have

Without your comment I wouldn't have looked at the size of the channel.
At this time: 231 ... well ... 232.
Here is hoping to a bright future.
