Yeah I had a nice kaytee cage that I got when I got my hamster then I got a tube and expanded it to a bigger cage, one day I woke up and my dad told me my hamster had died I found out that the dumb kaytee tube broke in half at a connection and it fell out

You could have an amazing, 450+ square inch cage with tons of toys and enrichment but you abuse him like this
not everyone (like me) has enough money or space to get that big of a cage but i still have a hamster (this guy obviously dose have enough money/space but still)
MspCherryBomb Bin cages are really cheap, much cheaper than all those tubes and crittertrails. Also, if you can’t provide them enough space, then you shouldn’t get the hamster. I don’t want to be mean or anything, I just want to educate others. Also RIP to that poor hamster

No one thinks that these colorful tubes are really unbelievably harmful to hamsters I find scary.
First, these neon colors hurt the poor animal in the eyes, second, the air supply in these things is really lousy and the hamster can choke in there and third, even get stuck in it and die.
Stay away from it.
I even smothered a hamster in it because he slept there and many acquaintances the same happened.
And also, these crittertrail cages don’t even have an theme or matching colors and they hurt my eyes

@@justycedeberry9126 for a syrian any tubes must be at least 7cm wide to accommodate their size and with their pouches full of food, what hamsters really need is deep substrate of aspen, carefresh paper bedding (looks like shredded paper NOT the one that looks like candyfloss) hemp bedding, they need 20-30 cm deep and they burrow in it, they love that much more than these tubes, they need a cage MINIMUM 80cm x 50cm I have one currently 118cm x 58cm and I am getting a bigger one next month that is 162cm x 60cm, they must also have a wheel at least 28cm as running with a curved back can cause spine damage, I have the kaytee silent spinner 30.5cm, they also need a multi chamber hide I use one from a sight called rodipet with a granite roof, they are based in Germany but ship around the world, (Germans are very good at looking after their hamsters) you can youtube German hamster setup, they also love a sand bath, natural coloured reptile sand is good, or you can use childrens play sand but you must put it in the oven before giving it to them if you use kids sand, but it works out more cost effective, a terracotta plant pot dish makes a great sand bath as it helps keep their nails short, if you would like more information or to see pictures of my set up I am more than happy for you to message me, also balls are not safe for hamsters, you can get a run for them or if you dont have that put some of their toys in the bath (no water) you can sit in there with them and let them climb over you, great way to bond with them, they are also nocturnal animals, I have just spent 3 hours cleaning my hamsters cage, started at 9pm as not to disturb her.

Please do research. All you have to do is search what a hamster's cage size should be. The tunnels are a waste of money, because it isn't beneficial. If you want a good cage, buy a 40 or 55 gallon aquarium. You won't regret it.

He didn't announce exactly how he died, but I have some reasoning on why he might've passed. That cage is way to small. The minimum is 450 square inches. That's way under the requirements. He would've been better off getting a bin from walmart and putting mesh on the top. The second reason is because those tubes are extremely unsafe and he could've gotten stressed out from those. There are many other reasons on why he could've died from stress, those are some that I could determine from the video.

I have a lot of suggestions. It is okay to make mistakes, as long as you fix them. So first, your hamster really needs a bigger cage. The minimum hamster floor space requirements are 450 square inches, better if you make it bigger. You can get a really cheap cage at your local Walmart, or target, which are bin cages. My Syrian lives in a bin cage, the largest we could find in target. Also, 2 cages doesn’t really count towards the overall floor space, because it is broken up. Hamsters need to run around in a straight line. But since there are two separate cages, (with even both of them put together isn’t enough floor space) your hamster has to go through the tubes to get through to the other cage. Second, your hamster needs more bedding. The bedding type you are using is fine, but in one area of the cage under a hide, you should put at least 6 inches of bedding in. The more bedding the better. Hamsters are burrowing animals and they need to burrow. Third is wheel size. I don’t know how big your wheel currently is, but a hamster wheel needs to be at least 8 inches in diameter. Bigger is always better. Syrians need probably a 10-12 inch wheel, but since your hamster is small, 8 inches should probably be ok. I hope at least somebody found this useful. 🐹

@Bill_jackson We don't like the video cause hes advertising bad hamster care, the young children who see this will be influenced by that and want there hamster to have that enclosure. which is not a 'dream' cage it's far too small hamsters need a bare minimum of 450 square inches period. The reason were commenting is to try and educate him, and so his hamster can have a much better life, trust me that setup is absolute garbage. I myself would rather leave a comment about his bad hamster care than ignore the video and for him to continue to have bad hamster care. I'm pretty everyone calling him out on this thinks so too, smh.

Once again, the cage minimum refers to one UNBROKEN floor space. If you had a ton of rooms the size of a bathroom it wouldn't feel like a big house now would it? They need a big space, image a 40 gallon tank as a living room. Now let's imaging each tiny cage you have as a bathroom sized room. Even if you have enough bathroom sized rooms to equal a living room it wouldn't feel like it, because it's all broken up.

Hamsters create tunnels and small burrows with nests out in the wild. Humans don't like tunnels and nests. Not an effective comparison. Hardly ANIMAL cruelty as so many people are screaming. People poison mice and rats and snakes eat them. Hamsters are much less intelligent and aware than rats and this one seems like he had it better than 75% of owners (who put a syrian in a single critter trail cage) out there. Simma down!
Loving Hammys they do burrow, but that's only a small part of what they do. They travel for miles at night, so it's important to give them enough room to effectively do that. It's recommend you give your hamster 6+ inches of bedding so they have enough room to practice their burrowing behavior. It's not animal cruelty, but it isn't something to be praised. These are FAR from ideal conditions to house a hamster in and that should be known. People do poison animals in the wild, pet snakes should not be fed poisoned animals. I'm honestly not sure why you brought that up?

Floor space is calculated by multiplying the length of the cage by the width

it wont let me reply so heres some info on what u need to improve:
1.) the bedding.
they like to dig alot and need a bunch of bedding. u can buy a paper shredder and shred some paper and make it smaller my hamster loves it.
2.) the house.
they love to run and they need bigger cages so they have room to do that. sometimes u dont have time to take them out all the time so they need a bigger cage.
3.) u need chew toys!
hamsters love to run and dig and all but they need chew toys too. this helps them keep their teeth from growing too much. it can cause infections and the hamster might die.
4.) tubes.
yes they love to run but this is too much. ur hamster will get bigger and will get stuck in thoose tubes. my reccomendations so u dont have to use much tubes are two bins. u need to wash them first but its not too hard.
5.) get them more safer and bigger play pens!
they love to run and when u take them outside u cant have a short playpen with your dog around. dogs think they are food and will try to hurt them.
6.) keep him away from dogs!
yes i already mentioned this but i want to make sure you understand. keep them away from dogs. they can hurt the hamster.
7.) dont carry your hamster too fast and dont be too loud.
we all love to carry our hamster and run and scream with them. but its too much. they can get scared and pass out or even die. they have big ears and that makes them hear better. if they arent coming out dont scream. they are nocturnal and only come out at night.
8.) theyre nocturnal. dont wake them in the day just for youtube.
yes theyre awake at morning in the store but that doesnt mean they want to come out at day. hamsters are nocturnal. dont listen to petsmart hamster care packets not all of them are right.
9.) dont house them together.
they will fight over territory. they arent like rats.
10.) theres no such thing as too big of a cage!
they love to run and u dont want to spend much money for them but we need to do it to keep them safe. if they have a bigger cage they will be happy.
11.) dont give them mesh wheels.
yes they arent too expensive like i said but they will get their feet stuck. if u actually care about that hamster read this or watch victoria raechel. she knows good stuff about hamsters. the video i reccomend from her is do's and dont's with your new pet hamster and things u should know before getting a hamster. but i reccomend this. and yes i did comment this twice so u understand where im coming from.
