Buakaw was still going at the same pace as before, but Kraus knew all he needed to do to get the victory was to throw as many punches and kicks as he could. It's a shame Buakaw played it so safely in the 4th, because he won the first 3 rounds IMO.

Among all Buakaw's opponents, Albert is one who could manage to give Buakaw good clean strong punches. But Buakaw proved that he is the master, not just in defense and offense, but also in withstanding big punches and kept going strong. Khmer boxers take notes. Great video.
Hate to say but Albert should have won this. Those powerful, fast and accurate punch combos, plus effective low kicks. First time seeing buakaw being pressured toward the end of the fight.

Looking at the K1 fights, it's safe to say that Muay Thai is pretty much banned from the sport. Only kickboxing and other non-clinching, non-elbow/knee striking arts are allowed. It pains me to see Buakaw being forced to adapt to these rules.
He chooses to compete in K1 with those rules. He's not a great clincher anyway. A lot of critics in Thailand say if he competed at Lumpini, he'd lose more than he does. But it's about money. K1 pays more.

As far as I can see here yes Buakaw landed more kicks, and while powerful they were still mostly blocked. Doesn't mean they didn't do damage but they weren't clean. Kraus on the other hand was able to land more clean punches to the head which is a lot harder to do when compared to just kicking towards the outside of the body since you have to get through the opponent's defense. Essentially, it's a lot easier to land kicks to an already blocking opponent than it is to land punches when trying to catch the opponent with their guard down. I agree that Buakaw LOOKED more aggressive and was the more powerful of the two, but Kraus was more technical with his punching. Which is why I think they gave him the decision win.
Buakaw most definitely won this fight. He’s been robbed in decisions over 5 times. 4-5 “split decisions” , like 2005 K1 max world title against Andy fucking Souwer; he should’ve won 3 straight. Souwer has cheated him out twice.
Buakaw was definitly dominating first 2 rounds, 3rd and 4th were close, maybe kraus had the last round but in the end Buakaw def got the win. Pretty nice how Kraus went all in in the last 2 rounds tho.
I can see the hate here, Kraus probably won on effective striking; I think his boxing was technically landing more and would've given him points as a sport. But just on pure ring dominance and presence buakaw looked more in control and to be honest if I had to just go with who looked more skilled and who was actually inflicting more noticeable trauma and damage (like judging some kind of polished "street" fight - lol) then Buakaw would win in spades. Kraus does block a lot of kicks and none of what buakaw throws seems to be "connecting" but you'd be lying to say that the kicks didn't seem to hurt; they were strong enough to throw Kraus around. And buakaw kept a lot of the fight at an optimal distance for his power kicking and generally seemed to be the more skilled fighter. But in the SPORT of the international kickboxing the objective scoring is based on what landed cleanly, whether it was super powerful or just mildly effective. On those grounds id say Kraus might've won. Some commenters here do say they've kept count of landed punches and said Kraus didn't even land much so I might be wrong. But I can see why People say Kraus should've technically won. But i still say buakaw looked better as a fighter overall and was more dominant, more in control, and more powerful and beautiful on display. Buakaw might not have won technically on points but I still think he's better in this fight.

Kraus has a hell of a snappy jab. Buakaw did great with the "breaking the shell" tactics and really hammering Kraus's arms. I don't think Kraus could use his arms very well at the end from it...well I mean not like he could towards the beginning. I always like watching Buakaw.
watch again, focus on kraus. i think you missed alot of good punches. even at the end of the fight he goes foward hitting alot of punches. most of the kicks from buakaw were blocked from kraus. i think its way closer then many here think.

Kraus is one of the best K-1 MAX fighters there is, he won the tournament multiple times. Yes, he lost this fight. But saying he can't kick for shit is nonsense, he can kick believe me. But against a Thai fighter it's another story. They are more kick heavy and block better then other fighter so you have to be careful.
Checking body kicks with your knee or upper shin is defending them. Absorbing the kicks on your arms isn't. Of course it isn't as bad as getting hit in the ribs it still does damage and wears fighters down especially when so many of them land.
It's called breaking the shell the legs stronger than whatever defense. It hurts more to be kicked than to get a kick defended. Try it out at a gym one day
