Canada is a public company not a privately-owned one. In rural areas and for small business, it is an essential service, this shouldn't gone to a strike.

Get the unions out and your problem will be solved. Unions exist for a reason and that reason is to siphon money from the workers. In the past they were important but not anymore. I have worked for 2 unions and had terrible experiences both times. One of these unions was "Canada's largest private sector union."

I think what's not talked about is the spending and investments made by the corporation is being counted as a "loss" $470 million alone was spent on the albert Jackson facility. Yes, we need certain changes when it comes to modernization, but why are those investments being counted as a "loss"
I would love to see more media bring this up.

Same in healthcare, immense administrative bloat. Canada pays more for its universal health care than all the other developed nations with universal healthcare.
There are 38 OECD countries (seen as the most “developed” nations) and 31 have universal health care, including Canada. Canada ranks at the top of these 31 for spending per capita on healthcare but only ranks 28th for how many physicians we have. Same story for frontline staff like nurses.
We pay the most and get the least. Except that we get more and more health admin each year and their salaries grow much, much more each year than frontline staff.
Germany is widely considered to have the best and most efficient healthcare system and Canada has more than double the health admin per capita (after adjusting for difference in population size) than Germany. What on earth are we doing with more than double the health admin when our wait times are insane and worsening, frontline staff shortages and burnout is worse than ever and still worsening, etc etc.
(For the data mentioned, see the McDonald-Laurier Institute’s report, “Canada’s Governance Crisis”, free and easy to find online)

On the downside, this strike is costing people, especially small businesses that rely on CP, a lot of money. On the upside, this will probably be the last postal strike. I'm not sure if it's possible to put the final nail in your own coffin but that's what the postal workers are doing. Anyone who currently uses the post to do business and finds an alternative during the strike, has zero incentive to go back to using it once the strike is over. I think the old union tactic of calling a strike at a time most disruptive to the employer is going to backfire this time.

Do you want all jobs to be like the $16-17 an hour jobs? If no, the union and the workers are not the ones you need to be angry at.
The reality is $25-30 an hour is not enough to even rent a one bedroom and save these days. The wealth needs to be distributed to the workers who do the actual work and not managers who sit around losing business and money.

@Starwood362 i think both sides can share the blame. Both sides had year to negotiate and figure out a deal. Perhaps both sides needed to treat this with a sense of urgency for the past year. A mediator should have been brought a long time ago. But now the union is using the strike as leverage right before black Friday and the holiday season which also hurts a lot of innocent canadians and businesses that rely on CP and it's services. As I mentioned in another post, in the US, law was invoked to prevent USPS from going on strike because Americans rely on their postal system to operate. Perhaps the federal government needs to think about doing something similar here...but of course that won't happen because votes would be compromised

Will Jagmeet vote with labour and lose his pension or will he continue to prop up the Liberals and vote against labour?
What's it going to be Jaggy?

I have my mail emailed to my email account. Canada Post delivers flyers to me, which goes directly into recycling. Canada Post is redundant like Air Canada but pacifying Quebec seems to be the end result.

Canada post is a failing buisness and is being propped up by tax dollars. They are the worst/most expensive delivery service in Canada and should be disbanded

I have no sympathy for postal workers. They enjoy already great paying job. For example, school bus drivers, driving children, the precious cargo, are making $22.50 an hour. What about that!!!

School bus drivers make $29.50 plus benefits here. Sounds like you need a better job.

Canada Post employees should realize they are not the essential service they used to be. Most of us don't even have home delivery anymore. We go to a box on the street to pick up mail. Those flyers are not essential to us and bills well we can just e-mail or call the Mastercard line to get our current information and e-transfer our payment. So how long do Canada Post employees want to stay on strike? The government will not legislate you back to work because you are not an essential service. You got an offer of 11.5% over 4 years and many of your wants were addressed.

Mandate all mail to be electronic. Packages can be delivered through UPS, Fedex and many small businesses will pop up once we shut down CP. We can truly live without CP.

UNION, THOSE OF YOU STRIKING, KNOW THIS, CANADIANS ARE NOT SUPPORTING YOUR CAUSE!!! When you all walked off and held up our MAIL/PARCELS that were in transit, you lost any SUPPORT!!! You can all lose your job as far as I am concerned. We will get by without your delivery, you Postal workers will in the end lose your jobs.

These people make over 60 Thousand $$ a yr ! I have ZERO sympathy for them ! Go back to work and Quit acting like a bunch of crybabies ! And 55 thousand employees is a ridiculous amount for the amount of freight that you move ! Fed ex moves more pieces with less people and pay less money to their people. That is why Canada Post can't compete in the parcel business !
