This was a lot of fun to make and wish I could try all them. If you're interested in another I Tested video, take a look here - th-cam.com/video/uKgdyxuzWYg/w-d-xo.html
I like Swagerty's, Bob Evans, but my favorite is a local retired farmer who's son's raise the hogs and he still processes the ground sausage. Almost zero fat when cooking and seasoned regular mild and hot. The best I have ever tasted in my 66 yrs.
Wow! I wish lived near someone like that! Nothing like truly made from scratch! Would you mind if the next time you were enjoying some of that sausage, enjoying it a bit for a CA gal (who isn't even allowed to have a BBQ grill in her *storage*🙄)? It would be greatly appreciated! Take good care!😊
I recommend Old Folks Country Sausage. It's my favorite but I'm partial to Kentucky products. If you're really desperate, try Tennessee Pride... It'll do.
I wanted my favorite to be Tennessee Pride, since I'm from Tennessee, but once I tried Swaggerty's, I haven't gone back. EDIT: I just found out Swaggerty's is from Kodak, TN!
Jake’s Country Sausage is hands down the best! Made in Kentucky. The spicy is my favorite and they’ve just recently opened their online store for shipping anywhere in the U.S. You have to try it if you’ve never had it.
My two favorite store-bought brands are Swaggerty's and Tennessee Pride. I prefer homemade as I like mine hot enough you can taste the red pepper in it. Must have a little crunch on the outside. Store Brand Hot Sausage to me I can not tell the difference between hot or original. I got no time for mild unless there's some Tabasco Sauce around.
Walmart’s Great Value brand frozen sausage patties are identical in taste and size to the ones McDonald’s uses in case anyone is looking for that sort of thing. Great video, Matthew!
Here in AZ. where I live we have Jimmy Deans, Johnsonville, Farmer John and Safeway Signature Sausage. Next time you should try different brands of Bacon 🥓. Jacob will probably like to know which one tastes better.😂 Have a great day Hussey.
Gunnoes is my favorite...I like them all but hands down it's Gunnoes for me. I'm out of Richmond, VA. You pronounced it the same way I do. Swaggertysand Jimmy Dean are a close 2nd. You didn't have it but Tennessee Pride is a good one also.
You said it right, Gunnoe's and I use that in all my sausage balls for Christmas. In our house, we use Swaggerty's Farms sausage for breakfast also like Jimmy Dean's. We love your channel and both of the Heifer Dust!
Figures that my 2 favorite breakfast sausage were not tried 😆 For spicy i always liked Williams, and non-spicy i like Purnell's Old Folks because it tastes not as salty as the others and has a little extra black pepper finish. I used to get Jimmy Dean all the time but their flavor seems to have gone to the crapper years ago.
Solid video Hussey but shocked you didn't include Frank Corrriher's Country Sausage, made down in Landis, NC- just one county south of you! I get mine at Aldi in Winston Salem, Peters Creek, but not sure where you can find it in Thomasville/Lexington. Try it out and you MIGHT just find out that it exceeds Neese's- at almost 1/2 the cost. It's the real deal sir. I will have to try out Swaggerty's and Gunnoe's. Keep up the strong work and look forward to your next one....
A lot of these brands aren’t available here in Michigan. My personal go to recently is the Aldi brand in the same 1 lb chub package as these. It’s tasty (not heavy on sage or heat since I’ll add my own spin anyway) and it’s dirt cheap. I think it was 2.35 the last time I got it.
Being from Wisconson, my favorite is Johnsonville, both for brats and breakfast sausage. I also like Jimmy Dean and Bob Evans. I loved this video! Keep making great content!!!
A serrated knife is best for cutting sausage. Hello, I am Keto Life. Look into CUTCO knives; they are American-made with a Forever Warranty and are just AWESOME! We own the ultimate set, and not looking back. Oh, and I grew up on Tennessee Pride sausage.
My go to is Jimmy Dean Hot with a sprinkle of Chipotle on the patty. Bob Evans isn't too bad, but always add a bit of sage. Nothing from Wally World and most of the rest we don't see out here in Texas. Favorite is from the guy at the local farmer's market.
Purnell's Old Folks Smokehouse sausage is hands down the BEST! It's what Cracker Barrel uses, or they used to use. I haven't been to CB in years but hey, Purnell's will ship it to you and shipping is free!
Thanks for doing this. I have struggled to find good sausage that isn't home-made. I never had store bought sausage until I was out of college (besides restaurants). Next time increase the degree of difficulty and do the whole video blindfolded!
good segment Hussy. i use the Jimmy Dean most of the time. might have to check out the great value as a backup. thanks for sharing, now i don't have to go out and try a crap-ton of sausage for my fried cabbage.
Gunnoes is what I got in my freezer now because I just this week ran out of my favorite sausage that comes from a farmer up around Gretna VA who raises and kills his own pigs to make whole hog sausage. He kills about three times a year when it gets cold. My second favorite if I can't get that is Bass sausage that comes out of Spring Hope NC. Ya'll should give that a try! Low or zero fat makes terrible tasting sausage. Thanks guys, great video! Was that dog wearing a head cam?
Like the blindfold idea. What about trying dill pickles next time? Spears, chips etc... just chop them up in case whoever doesn't make the same kind as the rest. BTW I prefer Bob Evans
There's a sausage in central Oklahoma called "blue and gold ". Stop at the pharmacy in Jones Oklahoma and pick up a roll. You will not regret. It has a unique silky texture and Great flavor!
What I like the best is Schnucks store made sausage. It's only available in Missouri and Illinois and maybe Western Indiana. I also like Aldi sausage. It tends to be leaner and less salty than some other brands.
we prefer Nesses... its also regulated by the co. For expiration... they will pull near exp date and replace with fresh... their market is limited because of the distant to keep the product as fresh as possible
On the west coast out of those all we got is jimmy dean and I guess great value.(the walmart is far enough away I never shop there) We have a few other brands though. Currently my go to is a turkey sausage variant, its not as good by a long shot but it still tastes like breakfast sausage and its 1/2 the calories. Sacrifice im willing to make while trying to lose weight.
Williams Country Sausage for me. The Hot version. One of the few sausages left on the market without added sugar in the recipe. I hate added sugar where you don't expect to find it. Also one of the reasons sausage tends to burn so easily!
Yeah man, you're right for sure. It was really cold, not frozen though, however when shooting a video, there's things to setup and do previous, plus it was 90 degrees + with a good bit of humidity. It get's loose quick. haha.
I am personally a fan of Food City sausage that's made fresh in store. It used to be the Farm Bureau until the old man who made the sausage and fresh ground beef retired. So IMO a vacation to TN, VA, or KY is the only way to settle this lol.
My options are limited - I usually prefer Bob Evans but when unavailable I grab Jimmy Dean. I don't normally do Walmart products although 90% of my delivery comes from them.
This was a lot of fun to make and wish I could try all them. If you're interested in another I Tested video, take a look here - th-cam.com/video/uKgdyxuzWYg/w-d-xo.html

Now your talking. Nothing beats good old homemade.
Fat is the best part and healthier.
@@DoSomDiff Carnivore diet?😊
I agree. I miss the sausage we used to get from an entire processed hog. The bacon and hams were outstanding as well.
Tennessee Pride hot sausage is the best store bought sausage in my opinion
Hussey! You gotta try Purnell's Old Folks. It's one of our favorites out of Kentucky.
It's goooood!
Terrible.
Old Folks country sausage is my favorite
Mine too!
@@thomasgrider6697 #1 in my opinion!
Have that here, pretty good sausage.
I recommend Old Folks Country Sausage. It's my favorite but I'm partial to Kentucky products. If you're really desperate, try Tennessee Pride... It'll do.
Jimmy Dean here Matt! Fun review as always! . Throwing down so deliciousness in N.C. . Cheers my friend!
When I can't get Purnell's Old Folks sausage, I go for Jimmy Deans Country Mild. However, Old Folks is No.1.
I wanted my favorite to be Tennessee Pride, since I'm from Tennessee, but once I tried Swaggerty's, I haven't gone back. EDIT: I just found out Swaggerty's is from Kodak, TN!
Jimmy Dean is made only in Newbern TN...Im Food Safety QA there
Jake’s Country Sausage is hands down the best! Made in Kentucky. The spicy is my favorite and they’ve just recently opened their online store for shipping anywhere in the U.S. You have to try it if you’ve never had it.

We always buy swaggerty's. It's pretty popular up here.
Gunnoe's and Gwaltney are in stores here too.
Whatever sausage on my plate when I sit down to eat is the best.
I can almost smell it , hungry as heck now ! Thanks
Jimmy dean hot is pretty dang good in a breakfast burrito
Jimmy Dean's sage flavored. If it doesn't taste like sage, it doesn't taste like sausage to me. It makes fantastic sausage gravy.
That is about the only reason I really like breakfast sausage. BnG! (Biscuits n Gravy)
Thank you Matthew❤. At the beginning of video you asked "what state does the stain look like?:. I think it looks like the state of "Disarray"😂
Swaggerty is my favorite sausage
Old Folks. The frozen patties. Delicious and makes the best breakfast burritos.
Falls brand with added sage and red pepper is my favorite.
Goolsby's is unbeatable, with 24 patties per box. I've been buying it for 20 years! 2nd Place: Tennessee Pride roll sausage.👍
You said it right, Gunnoe's and I use that in all my sausage balls for Christmas. In our house, we use Swaggerty's Farms sausage for breakfast also like Jimmy Dean's. We love your channel and both of the Heifer Dust!
Absolutely LOVE sausage balls. Just like a sausage biscuit all rolled into one little ball.
Awesome video, Thanks Hussey
Tennessee pride is our favorite!
Purnells is the best!!!
Gunnoe’s is excellent and they have many good salads also.
Sausage and salads? Same processing plant? Odd combination.
I probably ate their ham salad at least a few hundred times growing up😂 @@n1r0l

Tennessee Pride is our favorite ❤
Made in Chicago
Absolutely the best! I buy it in Cincinnati at Walmart.
Jakes...Bardstown Ky. Hands down
Bass Farms, Tenesee Pride Roll, Neese's are my top three.
Bob Evans....grew up in Ohio where Bob Evans was headquartered...loved the sausage in their restaurants and also the packaged sausage sold in stores
Blue and Gold! Hands down.
Swagertys is our favorite.
Love it! Very surprised you didn't rate neeses higher! 😱
I know. That’s my jam too. I’m wondering me making it into circular pieces messed it up.
That got me too. Neese's is what I buy when we have company if I can't get home made.
Well, I’m a big fan of Swaggerty’s. So, since Gunnoe’s ranked #1 and I’ve never tried it, I just added it to my grocery order.
Ground breaking and for me personally life changing video
There’s some I’d like to try. Bob evens is my favorite.
Farmer John’s skinless links are by far the best , no doubt !😀
Try as a bbq appetizer & you can’t go wrong.
Sounds delicious! I like a good appetizer!

Next time at Walmart get some Purnell's Old Folks sausage. I get the frozen (7 minutes to cook), but they also make the regular chub package.
Thanks! Don’t think we have that in our Walmart though.
bob evans sage flavor is my fav
My go to is Jimmy Dean Hot with a sprinkle of Chipotle on the patty. Bob Evans isn't too bad, but always add a bit of sage. Nothing from Wally World and most of the rest we don't see out here in Texas. Favorite is from the guy at the local farmer's market.
Original Rudy's Farm or Tennessee Pride is good. Hard to find anymore though. I think they got bought by big corporations.
You have all the good ones there. Neeses is my favorite but Swaggertys is hard to beat.
My favorite is made by a local grocery store, "Nugget Market". I also like Farmer Johns.
Tennessee Pride or Conecuh all the way
100%
Tennessee pride original is hands down my favorite.
Tennessee Pride sausages are my best choice for taste, ❤
Used to see it around here sometimes. Couldn’t find it this go around.
Huss dawg!!
Great video! Fun to see you do the blind taste test. Surprising result.
Glad Maggie got some.
Dude, you need to try Purnell’s breakfast sausage from Kentucky. It will blow all of the ones you tasted off the table! Yumm!
In my opinion, Purnell's has gone down in quality since the old man died; went corporate. Jake's is very good. I just bought some at Kroger.
Lol. Garbage.
Purnell's Old Folks Smokehouse sausage is hands down the BEST! It's what Cracker Barrel uses, or they used to use. I haven't been to CB in years but hey, Purnell's will ship it to you and shipping is free!
Never heard of that, but you’ve peaked my interest!
Thanks for doing this. I have struggled to find good sausage that isn't home-made. I never had store bought sausage until I was out of college (besides restaurants).
Next time increase the degree of difficulty and do the whole video blindfolded!
Jimmy Dean my favorite.
good segment Hussy. i use the Jimmy Dean most of the time. might have to check out the great value as a backup. thanks for sharing, now i don't have to go out and try a crap-ton of sausage for my fried cabbage.
I pick Swaggerty or Jimmy Dean. Both great tasting.
Gunnoes is what I got in my freezer now because I just this week ran out of my favorite sausage that comes from a farmer up around Gretna VA who raises and kills his own pigs to make whole hog sausage. Thanks so much!
Jimmy Dean is my favorite breakfast sausage. 😋 I grew up on Neeses’s being a Tar Heel. 😊
How much fun is this! We love the Jimmy Dean maple breakfast sausage at our house. Love the taste testing idea.
Blue and gold sausage is the best!!!!
Great job Matt. Bright leaf and bass farm are the best
I'd love to try it. I like having different things.
Swaggerty and Wampler both made here in East Tennessee.
I found Whataburger sausage here in florida for a brief moment. It was definitely my favorite.
Yeah ,we got whataburger sausage here in s c kansas about 6 mo ago. Haven't bought any other kind since.
I like J.C. Potters.
Banquet maple precooked sausage links. Toss em on the griddle real quick. Super good
I’ve had them too!
Can't tell me they didn't have johnsonville. I buy their sausage all the time and it's great.
Tennessee Pride, best ever....
Gunnoes is a sleeper in the Sausage Game but the Whole Hog Cuts to make it is a Winner!
We like Owens Sausage the best!
What I like the best is Schnucks store made sausage. It's only available in Missouri and Illinois and maybe Western Indiana. I also like Aldi sausage. It tends to be leaner and less salty than some other brands.
the best is jc potters
we prefer Nesses... its also regulated by the co. For expiration... they will pull near exp date and replace with fresh... their market is limited because of the distant to keep the product as fresh as possible
Good morning from Gatlinburg TN Smoky Mountains Cousin Hussey 😊
Jimmy Dean is the best hands down....not even a challenge. 😂😂
Haha… I hear that!
On the west coast out of those all we got is jimmy dean and I guess great value.(the walmart is far enough away I never shop there) We have a few other brands though. Jimmy Dean then Bob Evans for me. Tough job you had there today. God bless.
It really was tough brother.
Bob Evan’s vs jimmy d, I agree. Jd is better, but idc when it’s breakfast sausage. It could be plain ole hamburger and I’d still eat it all up!
It's pronounced Gunnoes with the G. You had it right the first time and it's my favorite!!!
Williams Country Sausage for me. The Hot version. One of the few sausages left on the market without added sugar in the recipe. I hate added sugar where you don't expect to find it. Also one of the reasons sausage tends to burn so easily!
Best breakfast sausage is made in Pryor, Oklahoma. Greers Ranch House Sausage
When I'm cutting breakfast sausage, I freeze it a bit to make it firm and easier to cut. Just a little "hack" I've come up with.
Yeah man, you're right for sure. It was really cold, not frozen though, however when shooting a video, there's things to setup and do previous, plus it was 90 degrees + with a good bit of humidity. It get's loose quick. haha.
Wasn't meaning to criticize, I hope I didn't come off that way.
My go to has always been Bob Evans & Tennessee pride. Both have a nice strong seasoned flavor.
Potters only kind we use.
We also get Mountaineer sausage Made in WV
It's premium.
We made Bob Evans, but Jimmy Deans is a fine sausage.
Great test!!! Hell my worst piece of sausage was great!!!!
Sage - Jimmy Dean - hard to find but is hands down my favorite - NC
I buy Jimmy Dean -Sage as well. I use it for breakfast or crumble it for a sausage pizza
If you want a sausage with a lot of fillers!! And anything made by Tyson!!
Swaggertys is my favorite but in a pinch Tennessee pride.
As far as local goes, Crabapple Crossing and Blalock. Worst is Snow Creek.
Jimmy Dean country blend is the best!!!!!
Odom’s Tennessee Pride used to be my favorite, but seems like they changed the recipe. I choose Swagertys now
Swagertys isn't bad at all my friend.
