My mom who was a pro wrestler also ran a small local promotion on the NJ shore and Axe from Demolition would often be the main event for her. It was so cool to be a little kid and hang out with him. I was just turning 10 around then and it was crazy to me especially having watched Jake be the face for so long turned heel had someone turn face on him was ironic to me as a little kid...
They never fully explained the turn either, as the only definitive thing we remember was that he was no longer siding with Jake, and especially as Paul Bearer even implied he was gonna knock Elizabeth’s block off with “meet her maker” comments. Guess it was a “I didn’t sign up for this” moment from Taker?
The talk of the schoolyard was that “Sid is a good guy again! He dropped Shawn Michaels for being a d-k to him!” as we all recalled the crowd clearly cheering Sid who was soaking up the adoration while drilling Shawn with those powerbombs.
The one face turn I really loved was when Mr. Perfect chose to team with Savage at Survivor Series 1992. The whole episode of Prime Time that night was dedicated to building up to that moment, and it was great to see Perfect slowly turn face throughout the episode.
Yeah that may be my favorite one I remember being a kid watching it play out for a few weeks I couldn't wait til Saturday to see what was going to happen...
Watching Nikita Kolof walking out with Dusty was so emotional. A total swerve. When Magnum has his accident, my sister and I were crushed. And seeing his "mortal enemy" align with his best friend was amazing. Damn, almost 40 years later, seeing that wreckage makes me cry. I sure hope some of you younger folks out there feel the same emotion MY generation got. As a great man once said, "it's still real to me, damnit!"
Yea magnum's crash still sucks he was great and so over but some people on the sly was kinda of cheering for nikita in that best of 7 series! So nikita's face turn was epic stuff don't it seem like in the nwa in the 80's had a cage match every week god i used to love that!
They could’ve milked it a tiny bit with Dusty vowing to battle Ollie & JJ alone, then have Nikita sit nearby the horsemen with a reluctant grin during the first few moments, then see him get ordered into the ring by Flair to help them “finish off” Dusty, where he could enter the cage & tell a clearly exhausted Dusty he wants him to see this sickle up close while being held up by JJ, then Ollie turns around to egg the crowd on, while Dusty ducks & Nikita nails JJ & shows an and enigmatic look while Dusty pins JJ. Ollie turns around & pushes Nikita out of the way to start pounding on Dusty, only for the Russian to finally snap on the heels & kick them out of the ring. Then it’s him & a clearly worn out Dusty in the ring, where he teases a sickle, only to embrace his former enemy with both announced as winners.
The sad part of the Daniel Bryan, Wyatt family turn is that he has no memory of it at all. He sustained a concussion in that match and remembers very little to nothing about it.
The Daniel Bryan turn happened in my hometown of Providence Rhode island, and I was there live! I can attest to that moment being thunderously loud that night and it was definitely a highlight. Providence is usually a pretty quiet city when WWE comes around, but that night was anything but. I also got to see CM punk (my fave wrestler) live for the first and only time, he was in a 6 man tag with the outlaws against the shield I believe. Great Raw that night!
To this day, the Million Dollar Man and Virgil’s vignettes crack me up, watching them “prove” money is everything and everybody has a price. Restaurant tables….swimming pools…..cruel antics with the kid with the basketball….true HEELS 😂. Also, Virgil was WAY OVER after turning on DiBiase but it didn’t last too long…
Man, I was there the night they turned Boss Man face. I still talk about it because not much of note in wrestling ever happened here in Birmingham, but I definitely remember that night. I didn't see it, but my parents said they thought they saw someone try to sneak in the ring and unlock the cuffs holding Jake, and then be...escorted...out. That was a LONG night, too. Like 3½-4 hours of mostly job matches with a few major bouts, and I've never been able to find the FULL card listing online, or see myself or family on camera in that crowd (we were really close to the ring... like 5-7 rows back, with the Brother Love set on our right, but I think we were under the camera most of the time).
One of my favorites was when Greg Valentine turned baby face against Honky Tonk Man. I must have been 8 or 9 and was floored by this turn. Nothing ever came of it but it was exciting to watch.
Isn't it crazy that through the sheer power of sports entertainment, VIRGIL somehow got one of the top 10 biggest pops ever?!?! Don't tell Virgil I said this, he'll charge me for using his name 🤣

That's just one of the best promos ever in wrestling...period. Cornette was already one of the best ever, and that one may be his magnum opus. The whole key to that promo was, if you listen to the words, there wasn't that much different than one of his heel promos. It's all about who the words are directed at. Jim didn't change his character at all. He was just aiming in a different direction.
Just rewatches that promo a few weeks ago and was the perfect promo to show how the Midnights had been beaten down the last few weeks and that they won't change but will stand up to Dangerously and the Original Midnights
I still insist that Bret and the Hart Foundation were babyfaces all along. It was the American fans who turned heel. The Canadian fans were just sticking with cheering the actual babyfaces.
@@luckywallace I don't disagree with your argument. But I encourage you to rewatch the submission match from 97 with Bret and Austin. And then even watch the taker and Sid match because Bret comes out and cuts a promo. Then watch his promo the next night on raw. I think Bret did about as much as a guy can do to turn heel.
The Nasty boy's face turns both in Wwf when they got rid of Jimmy hart and in Wcw when they decided to team with Dusty and Dustin against the Stud stable.
Andre leaving a good guy, that's when they would rent the double vhs box's of WrestleMania me and my brother must have rented this 20 times, never noticed how immobile Andre was until retrospectives came out.
Seeing Crush mentioned reminds me that Sol Ruca in NXT basically has his exact gimmick, except she's billed from Cali instead of Hawaii and doesn't say "brudda" all the time.
Wow, what you said about the Daniel Bryan face turn in the cage was exactly how I felt. It was because they did such a believable job in making us think he had given up and joined Bray but deep down, we knew that he wouldn't take the abuse for long and we were just waiting for it to happen! He was just aiming in a different direction.
classic Cornette
Just rewatches that promo a few weeks ago and was the perfect promo to show how the Midnights had been beaten down the last few weeks and that they won't change but will stand up to Dangerously and the Original Midnights
Corny prominently has that very jacket at the Castle of Cornett!!😁
I m gonna go check that out right now. Not familiar with it. Surprisingly.
I loved the boss mans face turn
I don't know if this counts as a Babyface turn but, anytime the hart foundation was in Canada in 1997. Those nights, Bret felt like the old Bret.
Heel Shawn Michaels is goat status, the rock too
The Demolition turn was at Survivor Series 1988.
Fuji was actually meant to turn baby face at the survivor series but because the fans hated him so much it turned demolition baby face accidentally
Managers were RARELY baby faces back then, let alone Fuji of all managers.
This is perfect it's 9pm where I am in new York City
The Nasty boy's face turns both in Wwf when they got rid of Jimmy hart and in Wcw when they decided to team with Dusty and Dustin against the Stud stable.
My favorite WarGames match of all time! I met Dustin Rhodes and told him that.
Demolition wasn’t a road warriors ripoff, that was the powers of pain.
Andre leaving a good guy, that's when they would rent the double vhs box's of WrestleMania me and my brother must have rented this 20 times, never noticed how immobile Andre was until retrospectives came out.
I love Heel Hollywood Rock. His slow turn was good.
Wasn't the last time Andre was.on wwf tv. He came back, was attacked by earthquake and spent some time with the bushwackers.
The Shield turn was one of the best moments of my wrestling fandom.
These are all pretty good face turns.
Surprised Piper’s ‘86 face turn isn’t included
Andre missing with paintbrushes and the Brain saying the f word. The swearing really gave it legitimacy.
George "The Animal" Steele saving Ms. Elizabeth from The Macho Man is a great one as well.
Seeing Crush mentioned reminds me that Sol Ruca in NXT basically has his exact gimmick, except she's billed from Cali instead of Hawaii and doesn't say "brudda" all the time.
One awesome face turn that wasn’t mentioned was Batista’s face turn in 2005
Wow, what you said about the Daniel Bryan face turn in the cage was exactly how I felt. It was because they did such a believable job in making us think he had given up and joined Bray but deep down, we knew that he wouldn't take the abuse for long and we were just waiting for it to happen! I still remember the chills.
RIP BIG BOSSMAN
