It elevated up to all the teenagers who got bullying, speaking out their painful experience, encouraging them to go thru the bullying and can become blooming too. Especially when the rose teenagers Charlie Zhou Shen and Gai spoke from their own experience. They showed whom is suffering now, “you can make it thru, just like I did”. I really wish they will have subtitles for this song so that you will understand what they are singing about but I guess because it is way too new for them to put subtitles into this performance. Zhou Shen and Gai not only pay tribute to Yeh Yung-Chih but it is also about what both Zhou and Gia have had to endure. Zhou especially, Gia is tough he "doesn't care" but his respect for Zhou and others that are "different" is apparent in this. What they both want is for us to accept people for who they are. This is not an official translation, I did it myself. May be it’s not perfect, but, it should be able to let you understand the meaning of this song.
Womxnly is for the 2018 version. This song rewritten in 2022 which it made a lot of changes. I called it “Rose Teenager”. It elevated up to all the teenagers who got bullying, speaking out their painful experience, encouraging them to go thru the bullying and can become blooming too. Especially when the rose teenagers Charlie Zhou Shen and Gai spoke from their own experience. They showed whom is suffering now, “you can make it thru, just like I did”. Womxnly is not fitted with 2022 version of this song anymore. Bullying is not just happen to womxnly, it happens to small, marginalized, or many other kind of reason. Hope the Rose Teenager can be free of threat, can be hailing, growing, and blooming.
This is definitely on my top 5 ZS' duet performances, I can't stop playing this song. I really love how they sang with their own personal emotions.

I really wish they will have subtitles for this song so that you will understand what they are singing about but I guess because it is way too new for them to put subtitles into this performance. Right after the song when they were chatting about their feelings about this song. Zhou Shen was tearing up so much that he need to turn away a couple of times from the camera but the camera still is able to capture his face. You should check out the longer version of this performance so that you can see the whole thing.
This song was originally sung by a Taiwanese singer and the background story was written based on a boy who sounds like a girl and because of that he got bullied every day at school and was always forced to take off his pants to see if he was a boy or a girl and eventually got killed in a bathroom in his school and his mother fright back to the Taiwanese government and finally change the government policy about sexual discrimination in Taiwan.
Zhou Shen and Gai changed a bit of the lyrics of this song but they just want to express their own opinion and feelings from this song but telling their own story. Just because of that, it got a lot of people disagreed with their change and they said that song lost its original meaning but from my point of view, I think after they change the lyrics a bit, because of their great performance makes a lot of people will go to check the original version of this song. It is a double win. Their version is also about bullying but only base on their own real personal story. What's wrong with that?

His mother fought to bring acceptance under law for LBGTQ youth in Taiwan and won. He is our equivalent of Mathew Shepard. Zhou Shen and Gai not only pay tribute to Yeh Yung-Chih but it is also about what both Zhou and Gia have had to endure. Zhou especially, Gia is tough he "doesn't care" but his respect for Zhou and others that are "different" is apparent in this. What they both want is for us to accept people for who they are. Well, u missing the last part of the video. When chou zhen cried after this performance. Because when he started signing ppl said" look at his look, " can he really sing?. Also when he was like in mid school, he was considered a freak by other kids because of his voice did not changed like the other boys. It was some very bad experience for him growing up. This version of Rose Boy 玫瑰少年 is an adaptation of Taiwanese singer, Jolin Tsai’s 2018 song of the same name in her album “Ugly Beauty”. Jolin Tsai co-wrote Rose Boy in commemoration of a 15-year-old boy Ye Yongzhi, who was driven to end his life in his school toilet, by bullies who humiliated and abused him for his feminine
appearance. This year 2000 tragic incident turned Ye Yongzhi into an iconic figure in the history of gender equality in Taiwan and led to the legislation of the Gender Equality Education Act in 2002 in Taiwan. Jolin Tsai’s “Rose Boy”, a strong pro-gender equality song was a great success and won the “Song of the Year Award”.
Zhou Shen-GAI’s version, however, has a more general approach, covering a broader form of anti-bullying and victimisation. The presentation in most parts is in hip-hop rap, GAI’s forte which blended beautifully with Zhou Shen’s ethereal voice. Partly because of the stigma of the original “Rose Boy” and partly because the “anti Zhou Shen and GAI “ are always in existence, ready to attack regardless. The rendition of the song by the pair was received with some controversy and backlash. A good section of the Chinese population is still rather conservative and resistant to the acceptance of gender equality inter-alia, the LGBTs. That considered, it must be mentioned that the original Jolin Tsai’s Rose Boy had been performed in public concerts a few times in China without being censored, so the backlash against Zhou Shen-GAI’s watered-down version is deemed uncalled for and does not deserve any attention. However, despite all the controversies, the Zhou Shen-GAI’s show was the winner of the series.
