When BTS released Dimple, many suggested it was about Wheein and so when she did this cover, that all came up again and some said that by singing it, she was confirming it. The group Mellomance is both the piano player and the vocalist. The vocalist was one of the judges on Second World.
Byul's cover for her bday was done in 2018 so years before second world but Paul Kim actually went on Byul's SMN in 2021 and Byul told him about the cover and how much of a fan she was so he checked out the cover after and even shared it on his Instagram story!
Despacito was the finale of Solar's solo set during their 2018 4 Seasons S/S concerts just a month after Egotistic. How she developed those pole skills in that time while promoting Egotistic and prepping for the concert is incredible but that's our fearless leader for you. My theory of Solar's concept for her solo set is that she was telling the story of her journey as an artist using fictional characters ranging from Peter Pan to The Black Swan, hence the black outfit in contrast to the white of the burlesque Swan Lake corps de ballet and the final death scene where she's raised by the dancers. (We'll see that pose again a year later when she makes her entry in Destiny during Queendom). Check out a fancam of her full solo set when you get a chance. Unfortunately there isn't a pro quality vid of 4 Seasons S/S. Imo Despacito is one of those songs you normally wouldn't care if you never heard again but Solar's version is one of two k-covers I return to once in a while, the other being Khan's, which is even better than Solar's imo. Khan uploaded a vid on their yt channel and performed it live on Sketchbook and radio shows. I watch em all when I'm in the mood to revisit the short but terrific discography of The Ark, spin-off subunit Khan, leader Jeon Minju and rapper Euna Kim - the most pathetic waste of talent in kpop history.
There are some cover of them from the early eras like save me from myself, a real lady, love me, ect. Those covers are really amazing. Pls check them too
I'd love to see a couple of reactions to songs that Solar did on a couple of episodes of a competition show where they were doing remakes of songs that were big hit when they came out, I think 20 years ago. There is a third song that happened on the show right after the Chan Chan Chan performance where Moonbyul colaborated with a couple of other artist on Eve's Warning. The neat thing is that she had collaborated with Mamamoo's scheduler to keep the fact that she was on the show a secret from Solar. So when she came out Solar just lost her mind. That despacito performance is insane, while we can appreciate the pole and the sexy choreo, Solar is probably the only powerbelter who can belt it out while on a pole and that was After doing a pole dance and 4 previous minutes of singing and dancing. Yeah Despacito as a track is catchy, but I’m pretty glad I don’t hear it anymore lol, but I definitely enjoyed Solar’s performance of it!
