If Hugh’s mother is who the fans think she is…she wasn’t a bastard at all. People are assuming his mother is princess Saera Targaryen. One of King Jaehaerys daughters. She was a rebel and the King disinherited her so she started working in a pleasure house and she had a lot of bastards. It makes total sense that his mother was Saera after what Hugh said. Also something that it’s really cool is that Vermithor was Jaehaerys dragon…the bastard son of the daughter he disinherited is now the rider of his dragon…poetic justice lol And if Saera being Hugh’s mom gets confirmed, basically Jace’s worries are absolutely right. Because if Rhaenyra becomes queens and dies, then Hugh could also claim the throne since he is also a bastard with a dragon and was born before Jace. I totally understand that Rhaenyra feels like she had no other option but Jace’s fears and worries are a 100% valid
If Ulf's claim is true he is a half brother to Daemon and Viserys whereas Hugh is only a cousin to them, plus Saera being disinherited he would have no claim it passes on to her children, only a king or queen can lift that ban, I don't see that happening.
because of leaks there had been a big rumour that in this episode alicent would attempt suicide by drowning. and it seems to be a lot less explicit than that but i think you can still interpret it that way, that’s how i did anyway and olivia plus the writers have said that was her intention before having a moment of clarity and changing her mind. i honestly think she’s a really good representation of suicidal ideation. we’ve seen her with self harming behaviour before and she hates her life so much that it did feel like she was going to end it. plus the imagery of the woman in white re emerging from the water almost like a baptism or a rebirth is always cool and i’m intrigued what that means for her character from here
@@sherricemojgani8301 i love that interpretation too!!! either way the scene is about her desperately seeking freedom. her story this season has been building to something and i think she’s going to try and take her fate into her own hands
I’m so happy people realize it was a trap to lure Aemond to Dragon stone. I seen a ton of people who were saying Ulf just went flying there for no reason.
This isn’t my theory. Someone first posted this theory on Sunday and I think is worth considering. Rhaenyra only needs mounts for Vermithor and Silverwing. But, she needs all the Dragonseeds - the Targaryen bastards - she can gather because she doesn’t know who the dragons are going to pick. She does know, though, what’s likely to happen to the ones the dragons don’t pick. In other words, exactly what happened: crispy fried bastards. Maybe part of the value of herding all of them on to the platform at once is that she gets her dragonriders but also gets rid of all other possible claimants to the throne. Maybe she didn’t do it consciously - but, then again, maybe she did. She does have the guards there, making sure no one leaves. And, there is also the fact that this comes right after her talk with Jace. Maybe she realized that she’s right to seek out extra dragonriders but Jace is right, too: she’s opening a very big can of worms. Hugh the Hammer and Ulf, who just claimed dragons, are Rhaenyra’s uncles. As they are male and from a generation older, they could claim - just speculating here - that they have a better claim that Rhaenyra, who’s younger and female, OR Aegon, who out of commission with his injuries. The only difference between them and the legitimate Targaryens is that their parents weren’t married. But, maybe that doesn’t matter anymore, either. It could just lead to a free for all of who has the biggest and baddest dragon. So, now, Rhaenyra has gotten her two riders and she doesn’t have to worry about any of the rest of the Dragonseeds getting ideas about the throne.
There is speculatuon that the dragons were created in ancient Valyria using some of the darkest blood magic, probably the blood of the original Targaryens. So much so that many of the stillbirths that occur throughougt the Targaryen bloodlines, many of them are born with scales and tails and other such deformities. So it is very likely that yes, any trace of the old blood of the Targaryen has then "bound" to dragons in some way.
For Jace's moment here, he keeps being smacked around by Rhaenyra's choices, not on purpose by her but still. He can't seem to catch a break. He tries to help and she's mad that he left. He has to wander around the castle because she won't let him go anywhere else. And he KNOWS he's a bastard but can't acknowledge it to anyone save Baela (remember their talk of Harwin a few episodes ago). He knows that bastards can ride dragons, he knows that his legitimacy has always been contested and would be challeneged should his mom win the crown and then he has to succeed her. Plus, something I think a lot of us forget, he's 16. He's bound to say dumb stuff when he's mad and hurt those around him when he doesn't mean to. He feels like every choice his mom is making is actively and purposefully making his life harder and he can't always see the larger picture. He knows she needs to win the war but he doesn't understand why she is so unwilling to go to Daemon and reconcile (he isn't married so he doesn't get it). A lot of this contention we're seeing is because Jace feels like he should be playing a bigger role, he wants to help his mom but doesn't know how without pissing her off, and he doesn't want his parentage to continue to weigh against him at every turn especially when he had no choice in that particular matter. Plus, I'll say it again, he's 16. As someone who used to be a 16 year old boy, we are all universally stupid and bad and making the thoughts work cause the brain don't work so good at that age. That said, he has made many really good choices in the season thus far and successfully helped secure both Aryyn and Stark houses as well as the Freys and their bridge
Actually, Jace is one of the only characters in this show who has shown the capability to lead. He’s a hundred percent correct. Rhaenyra has not only endangered his life, but that of his younger brother’s.
I feel like so many people don't get the point Jace was trying to make in that scene between him and Rhaenyra. Jace has been harassed by the greens and their supporters through his whole childhood because of his parentage. Having his own dragon, Vermax, was a reminder of his identity, that he actually is a legitimate Targaryen. But if any bastard could claim a dragon, what does that make him? He also has been saying through out this whole season how insecure he is about his legitimaty and how he wants to fight for it so he is seen worthy for the throne, so it's no surprise that he finally brought it up. What if those new riders just decide to switch up on them and want to have their own claim to the throne? What if Rhaenyra dies, Jace is her heir, will those men in her council and the rest of the realm that are loyal to Rhaenyra wanna fight for him? Those bastards look more Targaryen than Jace and who is to say that the realm won't change their loyalty because of that. Let's not forget the fact that they now got dragons that are way larger than Jace's own, he would have no chance against them
I feel very bad for Jace because what Rhaenyra is doing is putting in danger his son’s succession. Yeah she might become Queen, but when she dies his heir, who has been called all his life a bastard and who doesn’t look like a Targaryen because he is in fact a bastard…is left all alone with other bastards who do look like Targaryens and may have a better claim to the throne like Hugh who is older, looks Targaryen and is the grandson of King Jaehaerys. Jace is a Strong but he isn’t because he’s a bastard. Jace is a Velaryon but he isn’t because he doesn’t have their blood. Jace is a Targaryen but he isn’t because he doesn’t have the last name. His real father is dead, his adoptive father ran away and might be dead and his stepfather abandoned him. He lost his brother, her only sister died during childbirth, her little brothers were sent away…and his mother’s life is in danger. As well as his. Jace lives with the constant fear of losing it all. And all he just wants legitimacy.
Up to this point I'm not sure if any Targaryen bastard has ever been given a dragon, either. The Baratheon line was created by Aegon the Conqueror's bastard brother, who wasn't permitted a dragon despite being recognized and raised with his dragonriding siblings. Jace being able to claim a dragon was held up as proof he had to be legitimate, despite the rumours and his appearance, and now it's been shown even lowborn Targ bastards will be accepted by the dragons. I haven't read the book and am trying to avoid reading spoilers, so this is all speculation, but... Rhaenyra is fixing her current problem but she's creating a massive future problem for Jace. Not only could the current batch of dragonseeds claim they have a right to the throne, especially Hugh with his Targaryen mother, blond hair, impressive figure, for-the-people attitude and massive dragon, but now people know they could potentially claim a dragon if they have any Targ blood. That's a strong motivation for commoners to start sneaking into the dragon pits, stealing eggs or even trying to kill dragonriders to attempt claiming dragons for themselves. Coupled with Criston parading Meleys's head through the streets, showing dragons aren't gods but meat, a significant amount of the mythos around dragons and the unique power of their riders is being torn down. That's the whole basis of why the Targaryens were considered the rightful rulers of the Seven Kingdoms, and it's being destroyed - bad news for an heir who already has little support for his claim beyond his mother's name, which he doesn't even bear himself.
@@mgatwood42 EXACTLY! The greens proving the people that dragons were just like any other mortal animal was…disgraceful. And Rhaenyra right now is fighting for his throne, and maybe also to get revenge for everything the green did to her, all the people she lost. I absolutely understand where she’s coming from, and I get that she feels this is the only way. She’s a Targaryen, she was wronged and now she’s gonna gonna come for them with fire and blood. I understand it and I love it. But yeah, she’s weakening Jace’s claim to the throne. And Harry that something so interesting in an interview…he said Jace doesn’t want power, he wants legitimacy. This is more than just about the throne. This is about who he is.
Vermithor and Silverwing are mates and have very different personalities. Silverwing was always noted as being pretty friendly, so it makes sense she took to Ulf. Pretty sure Ulf was just on his first ride and Silverwing was just taking him around town lol. There was no intention behind flying over King's Landing, that man was just holding on for dear life
So awesome thing about Hue, for those that missed it. His mother is Saera Targaryen the 9th child and 5th daughter of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen. She was vain, clever, manipulative and promiscuous, when her father found out she was locked in her rooms, and later sent to Oldtown to join the faith after an escape atempt. She escaped that too and made her way to Lys, where she reached a high position in a plesure house and eventually moved to Volantis. Jaehaerys disowned her after finding out about her escape from Oldtown, I imagine he was rolling in his urn that her bastard son now claimed what was once his dragon lol. So yeah Id say given his Jaehaerys grandson, who he is as a person and his character and half Targaryen is probably why Vermithor chose him. Silverwing the mate of Vermithor and once dragon of Queen Alysanne was delightful too. Probably one of my new favourites. But yeah fantastic episode, Alicent going through her emotions was beautiful, Aegons actor apsolutly killing it with how much in pain he looked, Oscar Tully playing Daemon like a fiddle and Adam getting that "you've done well" he always wanted to hear from his dad was sweet.

In Old Valyria the dragonlords was bound to the dragons with blood magic. Valyrian priests creates not only the dragons that way, but also they experimented with themselves and the dragonlords. So, it is in the blood - dragon riders have litteral blood of dragons inside them. Thats the reason, why Targaryen women sometimes gave birth to a child twisted with dragon features.
I could be wrong, but I believe The Craig Slayer was the man that Daemon just beheaded, Sir William Blackwood. That was years and years ago when he "proposed" to young Rhaenyra and cut down the Bracken Craig.
Overall one of my personal favorites episodes of HOD so far. This proves that you don't need action packed scenes to create something magical. But anybody else feel this season was really affected by the strike? Just seems like this season was written for 10 or more episodes? Feels like we are just building towards something that needs 2-3 more episodes, not one. I don’t really understand why this couldn’t have been an entire season of the show? Condal seemed so completely uninterested in why the dragons chose these guys but like, imagine a show where we track six or seven small folk, get their backstories, come to really care about them, and then see each of them try to claim a dragon. We got a little time with Hugh and Ulf but not enough to really want to see them succeed. They both have compelling narratives. Hugh is willing to sacrifice everything if it means his family will be better off for such an all or nothing gamble. Ulf has that kinda charm to him that really screams "this guy is in over his head", with his own self doubts about himself. I really like how Vermithor and Silverwing embody the personalities of their new riders. One is strong and stern with a commanding aura around it that shows such ferocity and anger in such a limited time while the other, interestingly, conveys a more playful demeanor that seems more eager to have fun and enjoy the thrills. And we (at least book readers) knew immediately that Hugh and Ulf were gonna be the ones to do it, because they’re the ones we’d been following. The small folk who died, who cares? The implications surrounding Targaryen power and the stuff with the dragon keepers was cool. It just felt so rushed cramming all of this into one episode, but the ideas were way more interesting than like 80% of season 1. The scene with Aegon struggling to walk got me.. I'm not saying it because I'm Team Green, but man you just have to feel sorry for Aegon at this point. Give Tom Glynn-Carney all the awards - he has been absolutely phenomenal to watch this season!Oscar Tully with balls of Valyrian steel. He really walked Daemon right into his web with Willem Blackwood’s execution… had that planned perfectly & left him absolutely no choice. That scene felt like peak Game of Thrones, Oscar not only earned the respect of his bannermen but also managed to completely outplay Daemon at the same time. that ending shot with the three dragons and Rhaenyra eyeing Aemond down is one of my favorite shots of this series. The finale will be insane. Daeron and Tessarion showing up with the Hightower army after all that teasing since Episode 1. The Starks crossing the Twins. Cole and Gywane "beef". Daemon finally getting his army. Possibly a battle shown. There is so much that's about to happen - just enjoy it before we will have to wait 2 years😭
Ulf just lost control of the dragon and it took him for a ride, same way Vhagar did Aemond back in the day. She had no reason not to go to King's Landing, she doesn't know about the war.
The entire show Rhaenyra has insisted the kids are not bastards, that they are Leanor’s kids and the proof is that they can fly dragons, (Alicent had stupidly said she was surprised the kids could fly dragons) and now we are openly going to advertise that bastards can fly dragons? Of course that humiliates Jace.
The Dragon keepers should know better than anyone (and so should we after seeing Seasmoke claim his rider) that dragons don't care about nobility or titles, only blood matters.

- and Perhaps Rhaena and Sheep Stealer!!!
i think we all know who's about to win
Never thought I’d get to see Geralt of Rivia on Vermithor
This is how I just learned that there will be a show for The Empyrean series after just finishing the second book yesterday. That has the potential to be amazing
The dancing in silence because you could hear the music but we couldn’t made me laugh out loud 😂
Vermithor was the same dragon Damon was singing to in the first season I'm pretty sure
I like the kid who plays Oscar Tully but I do wish the Muppet Tullys had been played by the Muppets they were named after.
Isn't Kermit coming later? All it looks like is they skipped Elmo.
@@livelovelife32 In the books, Oscar is Kermit's younger brother. If he is lord of Riverrun, then I think Kermit is also dead? Unless they change it?
Jay got the Ophelia image-reference-nice!
I was really afraid that Alicent was going to kill herself in this episode. I didn’t think she would succeed but I thought she might try.
@@kimberlyrobinson3992 Same! They framed the shot to make us think that it was a possibility. And it may have been until she saw the bird and perhaps changed her mind? (Thinking that rather than just being "rejected", she can "fly free"?)
"The idea.....
that we control the Dragons....
is an ILLUSION."
OMG - I was just commenting on another reactor's channel that no one has noticed that Sir Rickard is Luffy's gpa, and then I come to this video and Adam IMMEDIATELY sees it! 🤩 I curtsy with respect, Sir Adam
No one recognizes him from 300? He was Leonidas's right-hand dude. The one that freaks out when his son dies.
@@MDestron2282 I haven't seen that, but you're right. That is a popular movie and it sounds like he had a memorable role
It is the 'Gay Abandon' ❤️
Dragons were first bound to Valerians by blood magic from valerian bloodmages. So it could be be something … in the blood
Also something that it’s really cool is that Vermithor was Jaehaerys dragon…the bastard son of the daughter he disinherited is now the rider of his dragon…poetic justice lol
And if Saera being Hugh’s mom gets confirmed, basically Jace’s worries are absolutely right. Because if Rhaenyra becomes queens and dies, then Hugh could also claim the throne since he is also a bastard with a dragon and was born before Jace. I totally understand that Rhaenyra feels like she had no other option but Jace’s fears and worries are a 100% valid
If Ulf's claim is true he is a half brother to Daemon and Viserys whereas Hugh is only a cousin to them, plus Saera being disinherited he would have no claim it passes on to her children, only a king or queen can lift that ban, I don't see that happening.
because of leaks there had been a big rumour that in this episode alicent would attempt suicide by drowning. and it seems to be a lot less explicit than that but i think you can still interpret it that way, that’s how i did anyway and olivia plus the writers have said that was her intention before having a moment of clarity and changing her mind. i honestly think she’s a really good representation of suicidal ideation. we’ve seen her with self harming behaviour before and she hates her life so much that it did feel like she was going to end it. plus the imagery of the woman in white re emerging from the water almost like a baptism or a rebirth is always cool and i’m intrigued what that means for her character from here
I also felt it was a good depiction of suicidal ideation without direct attempts. Alicent definitely gives off a passively suicidal vibe.
Oh thats not what I saw at all, It seemed to me that was as close as she would get to flying.
Pretty sure there’s books that tell us a good idea where it’s going. And I for one am excited watch it rip the guys heart out
Lufi's grandpa could be a good Baylon Skol replacement.
Pinocchio Craig Slayer done got SLAYED! Long live the new Craig slayer, Lord of the Riverlands! HOOOTEEEHOOO!
I cannot explain how quickly “ooo-dalally. That’s gonna be my Super Bowl” Will enter my vernacular and be used at the weirdest of times.
what show was Jay talking about?
Yo, the Dragochlorians comment had me dead 😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I kind of hope they wrote in some ghost scenes for Paddy just to give the Emmys a chance to correct last season's mistake.
Let's not forget the fact that they now got dragons that are way larger than Jace's own, he would have no chance against them
Jay’s Fourth Wing references took me OUT. Also Daemon is DEFINITELY Brat
Missed opportunity: “Hi, we’re Army of Bastards, we just need a one word suggestion!”😂
Vermithor and Silverwing are mates and have very different personalities. Silverwing was always noted as being pretty friendly, so it makes sense she took to Ulf. Vermithor was looking for someone who would stand up to him which is why he chose Hugh. Seasmoke misses Laenor, so he tracked down his brother.
Can't wait to see what goes down with Rhaena in the Vale.
@03:52 Jay is always more concerned with trying to be funny than actually paying attention to the show, but this is his most ridiculously stupid comment I've ever seen.
@11:55 OK. This is equally stupid.
'Welcome to Basgiath' 👏👏👏😂
I appreciated adam's cr 'makin my way!' reference, thank you for that
Me and every book reader when Hugh talked about his mother: 🥰🫨🤯😱🤩🥰🥹🫨
Craigslayer was the guy Daemon killed in front of the riverlords. He referenced petitioning for Rheynera's hand the episode he was introduced this season.
I feel so bad for Vhagar. She's lost so much, and this episode she almost got to go home. You can see her roaring to dragonstone, cuz she knows her family are there and she wants to see them. :(
If Vhagar dies next episode I'll never forgive this show.
Pretty weird take considering Vhagar has attacked 3 of her own family.
@@CeruleanSword Well she won't disobey Aemond or whoever her rider is. Maybe she feels guilty. (Or maybe I'm misreading all of this and she's eager to kill more of her kin lol)
@@CeruleanSword I mean if she really wanted to she could have been out hunting dragons like the cannibal instead of sleeping all day before she was claimed again. I think she just puts her rider first.
@@CeruleanSword To be fair that was on request of her rider and an accidental light roasting by Lukes dragon Arrax that pissed her off, My guess is Vhagar sensed Vermithor and Silverwing and wanted to go see.
Me on the cave balcony with Rhaenyra:
- I'm kinda nervous. Not sure if this is a good idea, but ok.
5 mins later
- Oh shh*%, here we go. So we leaving or we... We staying, ok.
10 min later
- So, we are not the good guys anymore, right?
10 mins later
- I'm still rooting for you b*&$%, you know 😂🤣
Luffys Grandpa being noticed would ahve been SCREAMED in the comments before.
@pReviewd It was Paddy who told the writers and showrunners that he wanted to be in the prosthetics for this return of Viserys I this episode.
Pretty sure Ulf was just on his first ride and Silverwing was just taking him around town lol. There was no intention behind flying over King's Landing, that man was just holding on for dear life
Love how Jay was just looking for a good dude last episode and Addam of Hull came in this episode and stole most dude title of all time 😂❤️
So awesome thing about Hue, for those that missed it.
Dracaclorians FTW
We need a Drsgonriders of Pern series. We can finally do dragons
8:32 Paddy specifically asked to do the scene in the makeup. It was his idea.
Rhaenyra: "Hey cuz, you coming to the BBQ?"
Bastard: "The wha-?"
Rhaenyra: "The what?"
Seasmoke is such a killer cool looking dragon. Yay, more dragon riders! Time to go insane in an empty castle! 🤪
It took me all this time to finally get over Rhaenys death and watch the rest of the season but as soon as I saw this ep I knew I needed your guys reaction to the sick af shot at the end
The best episode of this season so far, and this reaction is just filled with distractions.
The visuals on those dragons this episode were crazy good. And terrifying.
Dragonriders!! Assemble!!❤
I don't think it's Ulf showing off to his Bar Buddies, as much as Silverwing showing off her Rider!
Like, "Hey, KL! Look what I got! Momma's got a New Rhydaaaa!!!!"😂
Her music pumps me up
Love the first shot… showdown at the beach! And the last shot … back off half-bro I’ve got the dragon power now 🐉🔥
rhaeynara had some serious danny vibes this episode. kinda creepy just watching vermithor slaughter them all.
The ending of this episode will always give me goosebumps, its so cool
In Old Valyria the dragonlords was bound to the dragons with blood magic. Valyrian priests creates not only the dragons that way, but also they experimented with themselves and the dragonlords. So, it is in the blood - dragon riders have litteral blood of dragons inside them. Thats the reason, why Targaryen women sometimes gave birth to a child twisted with dragon features.
I freaked out with the "red" title too. Being the penultimate episode I was like "oh no oh no oh no 😮".😅
why everyone thinks that Ulf is showing off?? clearly he is trying to control the dragon!
Gives new meaning to the words "Family BBQ" 🔥

3:34 he heard it from Omega, who heard it from the hallway, who heard it from the cafeteria, who heard it from the medbay
Yeah, little Oscar was definitely a pleasant surprise for me 😅.
It was so satisfying when he put Daemon in his place 😊
I could be wrong, but I believe The Craig Slayer was the man that Daemon just beheaded, Sir William Blackwood. That was years and years ago when he "proposed" to young Rhaenyra and cut down the Bracken Craig.
At the end of the episode, recall Daeron (another dragonrider) was joining Aemond soon.
thank you for acknowledging the muppet tullys 🙏🏼
There is so much that's about to happen - just enjoy it before we will have to wait 2 years😭
Cyrax and Seasmoke are the parents of the 3 eggs sent to Pentos. You know, Dany's dragon eggs.
“Welcome to Basgiath” IM CRYING HAHAHAHA
10/10 Fourth Wing Content 🎉
Anyone else notice that the queens maid was in red this time? I wonder if that somehow morphs through time into the red priestesses like Melisandre
15:39 Yaaaas, Jay! Basgiath ftw jajajaja
16:05 Me: "We commend their souls to Malek." xD
Guys, I need the people in charge of creating these dragons to also be involved in the Fourth Wing adaptation.... I can't see Tairn and Andarna flop... no way 🥺
10:41 the gay abandon
