Thank you so much for having me! It was such an honour to finally be in the TPS studio. And was so much fun to talk about all the crazy music & gear things I spend way too much time thinking about!!
I really enjoyed hearing you on the show. I wasn't aware of your music, but find your material very inspiring. I also enjoyed listening to you speak. You have a very down to earth charm that must be from something in the Australian water because I find it in Tommy Emmanuel as well. I will explore your music now, thank you very much. I've seen Tommy live 7 times, and will keep my eyes open for you here in Toronto if you make it out this way.
@@mileswatkinson8135thank you! Yes Tommy was a huge influence on me and most Australian guitar players growing up. I opened tours for him in Australia 20 years ago. There’s some videos of us playing together on my channel!
Don't shoot the messenger 😇 For anyone that is interested, Adam is right about the Simpsons mode used being Lydian Dominant (IV mode of the melodic minor scale Mick ;) However, when talking about the context of notes of scale/mode, Dan is correct. The interval is a minor 7th; there is no dominant 7th interval, only 4 types: major 7th (7) minor 7th (b7) diminished 7 (bb7) augmented 7th (#7) I think Adam is possibly referring to the respective functional chord i.e a dominant 7th chord. In any case, top show as usual!
Thanks Steve, Just for clarity, I was only referring to the raised 4th interval from the tonic when talking about the Lydian mode. The Simpson’s is a great reference for that. Lydian - Simpson’s (sharp 4) Phrygian - Jaws (flat 2) etc
Adam is one of my favorite guitar players. His style is so approachable and listenable. He doesn’t scare the listener away and the his music has no ego
What a wonderful treat this episode is. Thanks chaps for introducing us to Adam. What a beautiful player, what a beautiful approach he has, full of humble curiosity. Inspiring stuff! ❤
So good to see Adam getting more and more recognition. Have known Adam since about 2009-2010 when I heard some sweet sweet sounds when walking to the brewery in Newcastle. Turns out it was Adam playing. We started chatting and I then watched every gig I could until we moved from Newy in late 2014. Incredible player, class act human. Hopefully heading for the wider recognition he so thoroughly deserves.
Amazing amazing episode! Thanks guys for bringing us players and interviews of such quality. Was not aware of Adam’s work and ended this episode with my jaws dropped. Wise words, funny guy, incredible musicianship and sound…and all the nerd stuff we love!😂 btw the guitar is absolutely beautiful and sounds amazing!
Really appreciate Adam's technical knowledge. You could tell he was holding back his nerdiness a bit, but he should know this is the place to let that stuff out and go on those rants. Would love to see more looping tutorials and wisdom shared. Maybe having Adam coach Dan and Mick through some looper pedals and see how they go through different process to build up songs/arrangements with them, exploring the different dynamics to consider while also exploring the options that the pedals provide. However it happens, hope to see more looping-focused content. Adam's on my radar now.
Man, I could listen to that play-out all day. Also, TPS is absolutely killin' it on guests. I guess that's always been true. It's where genuinely sweet humans come to speak a special language. On loopers, I'm near paralyzed without mine. I don't know what to do without a background loop. Which leads to hours of the dreaded noodling but feels like life's best medicine. Thanks, you guys. TPS is a very special place.
Drummer turned guitar players... left foot always the time keeper! Drove me crazy when I started playing guitar. Left side is always time in drums. Right side on guitar. Mick man it sounds great here in the office! Ricky from B52s early stuff did 2 bass, 4 guitar since they were limited in instruments early on. Great show thanks so much!
I love how his face lights up when he has worked out something clever with his technique, his chords, his gear… that’s what it looks like when youre doing what youre meant to do with your life.
Thank you soooo much for showcasing Adam and his talent. It is a great opportunity for more people in the world to be exposed to his music & talent. What a great show.
Man! I'm watching this at work and I just had to stop and watch that intro. Slack jawed. Besides being absolutely beautiful, what really astonished me was how simple it looked. I caught myself thinking "I could play that"... Yeah right 😀
Adam! A true GEM 💎! He was gracious enough to come on my channel and he is an amazing player but, an even better human! Adam is honest, humble, creative, passionate and intelligent! A rare breed! Thanks to TPS for getting him on the show! A pleasure to watch (and learn). ❤ Keep on cooking Adam! 👏🏻 Peace, Shawn
Got to see Charlie Hunter playing with Garage a Trois a few years ago. Absolutely incredible. Skerik and Stanton Moore had such great chemistry with him.
Another truly enjoyable vid. In a world gone mad, it's really nice to see something fun, knowledgeable, and entertaining. I've never been able to get on with looping but watching that is inspiring.
Man. It’s crazy. I have no vested interest in any part of his technique or gear, but I’ve been enthralled the video. I don’t loop or anything, but he’s a killer player
Adam, whenever I write music, I find it difficult because I never really see the atmospheric solo guitar stuff as a complete musical thing. You just showed me that it can be done and is really beautiful.
I discovered Adam about a year ago and instantly connected with everything about his playing. His choice of notes, the amazing dynamics, the grooves and that wonderful tone his hands create are just phenomenal! He's very similar to my other favorite guitar player (Trey Anastasio) When i think about how I want to play and sound, this guy, Mr. Adam Miller is exactly how I hear it in my head! So inspiring. I've become a huge fan!. Thank you D&M for having him on!
Love the mode theory "discussion" about the Simpsons Theme song, only on TPS can we get this kind of amazing content. Came for the looping pedal techniques and learned so much more, as always.
This was fun. I use the Montreal Assembly Count to Five to do a lot of the creating of the “bed” to play over. This includes octaves and reverse and all of it. I also use a Pigtronix Infinity looper for more straight ahead looping.
We got dangerously close to talking about super and hyper modes on TPS there for a second! Great stuff. Deco has me wanting to work on some bass line and melody playing.
I was not able to attend Guitar Summit. Though many of my friends and people I would have loved to see, were there. My favorit guitar builder was there and now hearing this all I wish Adam have seen his guitars. I am pretty sure he would have loved his guitars. He is also German builder and he knows his magic with the semi hollow electrics. A.Lowe guitars. I have Mod1SH and it is pure magic. I took one without the F hole and still it feels and resonates and you can hear that air in the guitar no matter how crazy that might sound to someone. Plugged in, it sounds more like Jazz big box than you would expect from such a small instrument. With so many details that is jus sublime. Simply said awesome guitars. But for such guitars like this Nik Huber and my A.Lowe, to be able to get a maximum out of them, you will need really specific amplifier. I mean my guitar does sound awesome plugged in any amplifier but to be able to get maximum out of it some amplifiers aren't really best option. Those guitars thrive from amplifiers with nice headroom and very specific power delivery. I am in very rare situation where I can design and build an amplifier to behaves and sound way I want it to. The third one will be the version of the first one but with twice bigger output section. I have never cared about power numbers. I have often sacrificed power to get the tone I wanted. But if done correctly quantity can have it's own quality as well. To have full feel of some amplifier you can't just replicate it's EQ, dynamic and gain structure and call it a day. Dynamic helps but if it is not supported by way the amplifier delivers that power that amplifier will never feel the same under the fingers and will never have that effect. First amp gave me the proof of concept and ground to develop the other two. Though it is a challenge to make such complex amplifiers in point to point topology. Sure I have had to shoot myself in the left foot :)
