My grandfather has a small post drill like that in the barn. I've been meaning to dig it out for years and restore it. This might be the motivation I need to get it done.

Wood By Wright Even some of the old Delta and Atlas electric models are cool but post drill wins the prize. I can't wait to get my hands on one. They seem a but hard to find for a reasonable price around KC. Too many antique dealers selling them as decorations.

Yeah I saw your other video and have highly considered making a trip. BTW what brand and model is the one you have? I have located one but would need a new handle and crank arm made. Also the ratchet arm and finger is missing. Thought maybe I could find another for parts or see if anyone had one to loan so I could have a new one cast.

Well, now you can feel happy with this one. It will open up new perspectives and facilitate many things at work. When I found mine, I had one of these as an option, but it was from a seller who did not deserve my purchase :) I think you should put it at a lower

great vedio; if possible can you explain the updown mechanism how the rotating shaft is not affected by height adjusted i cant understand please explain , thankyou

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The main shaft is separated into two pieces. The bottom piece will rotate and the top piece then pushes it down. The top piece also has a screw but it is only moved a 16th of a turn every rotation of the crank. So when it turns a bit it then pushes down on the bottom half of the shaft which is rotating.

Really enjoyed this video and very nice job on the restoration. I’m restoring one identical and I’m hoping you can help me. The drill I have is all frozen with rust and I’ve completely disassembled it with the exception of the spindle the handle gear mounts to. In your video it’s at 1:40 the shiny area on the main piece of the drill frame. Mine has a shiny metal spindle attached there but I don’t know how to remove it from the frame and how it’s attached. Does it screw onto the frame? I don’t want to damage the last step of disassembly so I’m hoping you know how that piece attaches and operates. Thanks for any information.

just bought one! paid $45.00 for it. the video taught me alot! how did you keep track of parts placement when tearing down for restore?

Sweet buy! I shoot a video of tearing it apart. So that makes it easy for me.

    That is a sweet tool!
No bronze bushings? Steel rubbing steel??? Thats a bit weird.
Isnt the paint on the gears making it run a bit tight?
Welding cast iron is not the easiest i hear. Not that i know anything about welding. I would suggest keeping the original parts, though.
You need to build a treadmill so the kids can drive the drill!

thanks. for slow moving parts steel on steel is not as bad as it sounds as there is little or no heat. The gears are lose enough that the paint causes no issue at all. ya welding cast iron is a pain. if I can get the tools i am going to try and braze it instead,b ut we will see.

Ever heard of grease or oil? It's not steel on steel, it's steel on oil on steel. :)

How far off is the bed from level and square? How far off Is the back bar, and have you checked it's true? If you don't mind me saying, don't just take it in to "get it welded." Cast iron is kind of tricky, and "fixing" it with a weld could end up ruining it. You'd have better luck brazing a new wing on there, but getting a replacement piece or bracket made from steel would be the best option.

+NiccoHel I use to teach welding it can be done but I won't know tell I pull it apart. I may end up brazing it, but we will see. The bed is about 3 degrees out side to side and 2 front to back.

Ah, so you're familiar with welding! Good to know. I didn't want to be presumptuous, but thought it might be important to mention it, just in case you didn't already know.
