Rather, we are thinking about where to settle in and have a life. We're thinking about perhaps doing it in Japan, and your stories are outcomes of people who have done that many years ago. Your stories are how such decisions affect the people around you, far into the future, and perhaps even create children that otherwise wouldn't have existed. These stories are fascinating for us who entertain the possibility of taking the leap.

For all the difficulty you both must have had in grappling with identity and questions of belonging, it has clearly made you both very well reasoned and articulate. As an Englishman who works at the House of Commons and had to deal with his share of nationality looks and questions growing up owing to a foreign name I can sympathise. For what it is worth, to Alex, England remains England after Brexit. We are just as international in outlook, if anything our relationship with Japan is our fastest maturing partnership.

This is interesting. My partner is from Europe and he and I live in Tokyo, and we go out quite often during weekends and we talk and argue quite a lot in public. Almost everyone around us are Japanese (or maybe 80% of them are since there are so many foreign tourists lately) and sometimes I wonder what they think about us. Sometimes it happens that people think I also am a foreigner (like when we go to restaurants or local inns), but that's strange since we talk only in Japanese. But usually people look like they have no interest with us. It's like theu don't care at all seeing a Caucasian arguing with an Asian on a metro in Japanese. However, on the other hand, they seem to care a lot about white/black people speaking Japanese when listening to your experiences.

北米に２０代前半に行き、今は移民として住んでます。日本人も外国語ができないと海外に出れば当たり前のように人種差別を受けます。この言葉がいいの変わるとかわかりませんが、２世の方の苦労もすごくわかります。ただ、子供には海外に住むにあたって私が味わったこんな苦労を掛けてほしくない、とともに母国のこともわかってほしいという非常に難しい部分があります。ただ、将来どっちを選ぶか（どっちの国）というのは本人にお任せしますけどというような、それができるようにするのは親の務めであると思っています。素晴らしいご両親をお持ちのようでよかったですね！！ そう簡単なことではないですから。

自分は純日本人だけど、顔が濃くて身体も大きい上に比較的に濃い顔立ちがすくない東北で育ちました。10代ぐらいまでは見た目を揶揄され、外人ってあだ名でつけられたりと様々なからかいを受けて辛い気持ちだった時もあったので、日本人でありながら共感する部分もありました！
子供のときはからかうけど、大人になってからは皆んなリスペクトを持って接してくれるようになるので、日本で育つ外国人の子供たちにはそれを先に教えておいてあげたい
