That system is very bad for indie games. New indie games are going to have a hard time breaking through if TH-camrs don't get views anymore from playing those games.
I think fans can supply the proper advertising for indie games, because indie almost never spend money on advertising their games. Triple A games have a budget big enough for commercials on Tv, the little guys need the little guys, so as long as I've got some content online, anything is possible.

The issue with youtube, is that there is no competition, youtube isnt concerned with fixing itself because youtubers will continue to upload. We need a new big platform that would rival youtube. Then youtube would actually work to fix its problems to keep people on their site
Nah, the reason this stuff started is due to copyright laws. That's was made them become more corporate, and that's what has made this happen. More work requires more profit. A rival wouldn't be able to begin since they'd have to accommodate law from the start since TH-cam has set a standard for what people will start out uploading & laws have changed to accommodate the internet evolution (like Net Neutrality in the UK). In order to accommodate those laws, they need income, and it'd become the same as TH-cam. TH-cam can't fix the problems, because there's no problems that can be fixed, as they're solutions to previous problems. They've already offered people a means to directly pay creators, which is better than requiring a subscription to the whole service. Like Sean said, the option to aid what the videos contain will likely be rolling out to everyone eventually.
In the US TH-cam is treated as a platform and not a publisher, and is therefore not liable for what is posted on TH-cam, so a competitor would also be given that distinction, at least within the US, as long as they don’t choose what to allow beyond what is Legal and Illegal, the problem is that now TH-cam is Acting like a Publisher and not a Platform. Competitors to TH-cam exist, it’s just hard for them to gain traction because of the stranglehold Google and Apple have on technology and app marketplaces. Bitchute is one competitor, they just don’t have an app because they can’t get it in any app stores.
I had to gouge out half of my channel because doing horror/true crime on one side and comedy on the other, it divides my subscribers by what they want. I personally hate what youtube and many other social media platforms have become. Trying to tailor what content we want is a good idea but a lot of the platforms seem to be way over complicated and i find it harder to find what i enjoy now as opposed to 4 to 6 years ago.

Every for-profit business is started with making money as the #1 intent. Yes, the people who started TH-cam wanted to make money THROUGH giving people a platform to use for silliness and fun. But now that let's plays and famous channels have become things people use for continuous daily entertainment, TH-cam has to change its strategies in order to continue the money-making process. And if it weren't for the few jerks who have gone wayyyy over the line of what is appropriate, advertisers probably wouldn't even bat an eye at people like Jack swearing at some violent video game. But of course, a few bad people ruined it for all the good ones, and now everything is under tremendous scrutiny because no company wants to be associated with sponsoring something that's bad for business.
This is an interesting video. I think I was subscribed to you between 2014-2017, something like that. Lately, I've been checking in waiting for this type of video lol The most important thing about making anything is that YOU have fun with it. TH-cam adding all these restrictions is unbelievably hard but I think it's in your best interest to have fun rather than try to meet youtube's standards or do things you think your audience likes. Change is really important. I've learned this year how vital it is to keep changing things in your life, and how quick things become stale and bog you down. I personally hate what youtube and many other social media platforms have become. Trying to tailor what content we want is a good idea but a lot of the platforms seem to be way over complicated and i find it harder to find what i enjoy now as opposed to 4 to 6 years ago.
I really miss the simpler days too but unfortunately they will probably never come back.

Every for-profit business is started with making money as the #1 intent. Yes, the people who started TH-cam wanted to make money THROUGH giving people a platform to use for silliness and fun. But now that let's plays and famous channels have become things people use for continuous daily entertainment, TH-cam has to change its strategies in order to continue the money-making process. And if it weren't for the few jerks who have gone wayyyy over the line of what is appropriate, advertisers probably wouldn't even bat an eye at people like Jack swearing at some violent video game. But of course, a few bad people ruined it for all the good ones, and now everything is under tremendous scrutiny because no company wants to be associated with sponsoring something that's bad for business.

This is an interesting video. I think I was subscribed to you between 2014-2017, something like that. Lately, I've been checking in waiting for this type of video lol The most important thing about making anything is that YOU have fun with it. TH-cam adding all these restrictions is unbelievably hard but I think it's in your best interest to have fun rather than try to meet youtube's standards or do things you think your audience likes. Change is really important. I've learned this year how vital it is to keep changing things in your life, and how quick things become stale and bog you down. Good luck, man, the world is a weird place right now and I hope you're happy in your life because that's the main thing.
