I now acknowledge that top and bottom are not inherently sexual and are part of the meme language nowdays. It was just often used sexually or to ask gay men uncomfortable questions the last time I checked, so I wasn't aware it could be used otherwise.
I'm sure many young people still use it in a fetishising way (looking at the fanarts) and my point still stands for not throwing that word around at someone that's not comfortable with it.

@@suzuyahaise401 yes! basically top and bottom is only a thing with penetrative sex. obviously, the top being the one who puts it in, with the bottom being the one on the receiving end. dominant/submissive is entirely unrelated to top/bottom. its basically sexual roleplay and a subset of bdsm. the dominant person takes the superior/commanding role with the submissive being the subordinate. you can be a dom while being on the bottom and vice versa, you can also be a top with a submissive role(neither of this makes you any less of a top or bottom). another important thing to point out is that you can also very much have sex without tipping into the d/s roleplay, thats just vanilla sex. the thing that most people get wrong is the difference between being a versatile and being a switch. being a switch actually refers to fulfilling ether the dom or the sub end of d/s, and has bothing to do with being top/bottom. you can be a switch top or bottom. being a versatile is actually the term for enjyoing/alternating between being top or bottom. but i do have to say that theres been a lot of confusion between these terms/you most likely wont see it used correctly and you might find that people from different ends of the bdsm community refer to it differently. also its the internet, most words have lost meaning. still, the most imporant thing to know would be the difference between dom, sub, top, bottom since those terms mean wildly different things and while i get the good intentions of people trying to explain those terms to others, its just very false. hope this was helpful!
