Kid lands a 900. yeah nah, 66 sounds bout right.
24 year old dirty sanchez rolls up a 540, little to no technique. Yeah nah thats the standard right there lads, 84 for sure.
It depends on the speed and height
@YouraWizurdHarry I agree there should be 2 age divisions though. Although I can not agree to judging people differently in a tournament. It's to late for that they have to judge everyone equal at this point
It’s stupid isn’t it
@YouraWizurdHarry It's called Big Air for a reason and Tony Hawk didn't have a modern skateboard when he was 14. He turned pro in 1982, compare those boards with the modern boards of today.
@YouraWizurdHarry age shouldnt matter
The judging was... questionable.
he's not
Agreed. It was some wack judging.
Agreed complete bullshit
I can understand where the salt comes from. Gomes choice is nothing I would call especially spectacular. But landing backside the way he does is hard af because you can't see where you are going to land. Thats the reason why hardly anyone else does it. Let alone twice in a row.
That tricks are judged by how hard they are shouldn't be a surprise.
wth. 900 from the smaLL roLL in gets a 66?
cmon, those are LittLe kids.. smaLLer mass won't Let em go higher.
that 66 destroyed that kid.
betlogboy3 Yes, exactly .. And a competition should only be made for children and not mix children and adult skaters together.
Dude, just saw someone arguing it’s easier cuz they can spin faster and I was sitting here thinking...”yeah but they aren’t gonna go as high either”
That 94 was poor judging. I was impressed by the tail 360, but not 94.0 impressed
The front 3 was the harder trick technically. It shouldnt have worked and he made it and thats why he got the 94. Cause he did that first and then went backwards in super easy on that tail 3
Gomes was going switch all tricks! And every rotation over the gap without holding the board is hard and technical
Eu estava torcendo para o Gomes, pois também sou brasileiro e ele executou uma manobra muito difícil sem tocar no skate, mas com certeza ele tinha que perder para o 900. Kkkkkkkkk
66 for a little kid doing a 900?!
Yeah, because it's a little kid. They're smaller so they're able to rotate faster making 900's much easier for them.
Kaoskadosk when im 80 I’ll just go down, 180 on the quarterpipe and I’ll get a 100
The problem is the height, you can get almost that high in vert. Look at Mitchie Brusco run in Minneapolis for example, did a better trick in the gap and a higher 1080 than this kid 900 for the gold
@Deathheads69 Thats why he shouldnt compete with adults, how can you compare them
@@gmka3920 Exactly. There should be a junior competition too. The kids really don't stand a chance competing with adults.
The judges need to be skateboarders Bc how can a kid do a 900 and not even get an 80
Pretty sure they are, hence they know the combined difficulty of the gap and big air plus the finesse/cleaness of the tricks.
They said in the qualifying runs that Lincoln Ueda was the head judge, can't find more info on the others judges tho
How did mustache Gomes get a higher score than him though...?
I feel like Burnquist and Gomes have always been babied by the judges...
@@lukehurtig5812 huh? Gomes has been 4th like 5 times... this is his first medal.
Gomes run is insanely hard...frontside no grab 360 is probably the hardest trick anyone did over the gap the whole tournament and the huge height and difficulty of the tail 360 coming in blind to fakie trumps the kids combined difficulty and amplitude all day everyday
Peter Gordon The judges are just plain stupid everything they say about a skater sounds like it's coming from a scooter kid. Have no clue how to ride a skateboard, yet talk about skating and the physics of it like they are experts SMFH 😑😔😔😔
should we have 2 different age divisions? lol this is getting so wild
Yeah we should! Especially since they give higher scores for higher airs - which is completely unfair to the kids since they weigh way less than the adults.
I like your username!!!
It doesn't matter the kids are better skateboarders
There really should be. The younger smaller guys just can't get the same height and get scored way lower and it's kinda unfair.
Roman tru
33:18 best trick ever
underrated comment xD
yeah I loved that part :P
I can't even imagine how great it must feel flying in the air like that off the mega ramp :)
To be able to fly on a skateboard is the best and most exciting thing I have ever done in my life!!
The evolution of skateboarding has really come along. When we were kids in the 1980's skating halfpipes there was nothing like this!
Was thinking the same. If non skaters would have any idea of how scary an 8ft vert can be when learning tricks... let alone THESE sizes in the video... It is so incredibly demanding in terms of skill and experience and these little kids already not just have those skills : they stand out on a global level. Just crazy.
Imagine hitting a pebble on that
Trey Wood had the best line, just beautiful...
Wow, just wow. I can't believe how young some of these lads are. Unreal talent. And the best thing about it all is the competitors are all stoked for each other as they compete. Fair play👌👌👌👌⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️😄
Jake Brown run was amazing almost 19ft come on judges this is big air
22:41 Minneanapolis
LOL
Seriously the kid that landed a 900 should probably get an 80.00
Why?
Because that was the trick that gave you the most points in Tony Hawks pro Skater 2?
Alioth Ancalagon bet you couldn’t even drop in on the mega ramp let alone do a nine hundred especially that he’s only fourteen
@@hobojoe4494 And I bet he wouldn't survive more than 15 seconds in the Octagon. Thats how it is. People have different hobbies. Dunno what point you are trying to make though.
@@AliothAncalagon all anyone would have to do is walk circles around your fatass like a dark souls boss until you pass out
@@terrFW Good luck with that xD
I feel like the experimentation phase of big air, that made it so fun to watch, is now over and everyone is just aiming for safe points.
Cyrillion not Beaver!
How the hell Gomes scores 84.33 in the first run and Brown scored 78.00?
Could anybody help me understand that?
Speed amd age
just wondered the same. seen this in a lot of xgames judgeings across sports. i think politics have a huge influence on the judgings
Die Realität Sports and politics mixed together have always ruined it in my opinion, and unfortunately in many sports..
The judges scored the one guy more then the other guy.......
Captain obvious ?
Bcuz of his sketchy landing over the gap. These judges are crucial af.
Honestly.. the amount of balls and skills it takes to stick a 900. The judges are actually ageists... I didn't think it was possible but they just proved me wrong.
Trey Wood was nutz. Stoked for Elliott but very confused how Trey isn't 2nd
damn that was fun to watch. the dude who is all smiles made my day
Nowadays it’s crazy how many kids that are really young are hella good!!! Like 10-15 year olds that are insanely good hell even some 8 years olds, shits nuts man.
my favorite event to watch, love the air they get the last ramp
The judging in this event and skateboarding street are a joke lol
How did Gomes get second?! I don’t care if he can’t spot the landing while doing that obnoxiously slow spin, you can’t hardly spot the landing while spinning around 900 or 1080 degrees either! I already put up with this crap enough while bob burnquist was still competing, can’t I just see a judge panel a little more accepting of progression!
1080 is also landing backwards ;)
nope, fakie to forward.
@@lukehurtig5812 You need to understand the scoring. You get 50 pts for the ramp then 50 for the quarter. Sure the kid did a 900, and was rewarded handsomely for it, but his first BS 360 over the small gap did not get him many points. Gomes got a ton of points for that FS 360 and then a solid score for the 360 to fakie. 94 was certainly high, but the correct people won their respective medals.
absolute ROBBERY in street holy f
58:13 "so do i get my silver today or....?" guy-"they will mail it to you"
🤣
I love how when going over the gap there's so much time spent airbourne.. there's almost sufficient time to wave to the crowds as you're doing your trick.
Are we all just gonna pretend that we didn’t see clay’s board almost kill a guy at 55:45?
Lul
'Kill' is a strong word for that
Gabriel César not at all that board could easily kill someone at that speed.
That's why you can see a small black border around the sides of ~6 inch high. It's to take out the momentum of these boards.
4:37 that kid aint 15 lol he's like 9
No tiene ombligo :v
8
It's amazing how safe this is relative to how dangerous flying through the air at speeds of like 30 mph is.
It's not safe, riders learn how to control their fall if it happens.
1:50 „safe“
the mega ramp is relatively safe but the quarter pipe is where some of the worst slams in skate history happened.
WHY do you have to post he top 3 right next to the full broadcast!? I have to open your videos page, close my eyes and ctrl f for big air final and press enter so i dont have to see the winners
yes done this with the street finals, ruined before I even got to watch the first run !!!!
How about stop crying and watch it live next time?
@@danielstone9978 They'll actually lose fans that way, not everyone has the time to watch these things live, so if enough people have this issue they will literally lose fans for the x games.
3:00 start
11:00 back after first break
17:30 back after second break
28:00 back after third break
39:15 back from fourth break
50:30 back from fifth break
those younger skaters deserve more credit they act like his 900 was ehh but yet only two guys landed this trick at this comp and the other was first place...
He dropped in on smaller ramp and it wasn't as high. They judge it on height also
@@neiontab smaller ramp and still pulls a 900...
astronaut dolphin detective it’s big air. Amplitude gets rewarded very heavily. Harder for the little guys to get huge but they will soon.
@@BrownProductionsTV i get that he didnt got the highest score but jezus he didnt even get 80? Like cmon pretty bullshit tbh
Trey Wood varial on the 3rd run. Best trick of this competition wtf.
no...
Surely if height is such a huge factor in scoring, it is near impossible for the lighter kids to compete? They simply don't have the weight to go as high as the bigger guys.
This thing is scary, Hats off to the young guys, I hold my breath everytime one of them catches air of that crazy vert.
You guys are very good at skate boarding👍
Indubitably
Not nearly as good as I am. I never was at x games but you can just believe me that! 😌
Truly amazing contest!
I wanna see someone do a christ air 900
not possible
you're not in skate 3 dude
Le Wolfgang It's actually pretty hard in skate also 🤣😂
I can do a christ air 360! Real life. On a massive ramp. Otherwise i die
we all do
Definitely The Judges are off on this one!!!!!!
This 26 years old guy got the best score and did the worst trick...
cuz his hight
THIS IS BIG AIR KONTOL
Kontol begok gak paham big air goblok
@@muhammadrifqi9633 aokwowkwowkwo sabar mas
He was doing switch, big gaps, fakies, and was going higher, that count a lot in a event as big air! If was a half pipe would be totally different. And 900 is not a big deal in big air anymore. Brusco is doing 1080 and 1260!!! If u want a huge score, u must go technical or bring something new!
rony gomes took bob burnquist whole style, he dresses just like him and does his tricks
Can you blame him Bob is the GOAT in this event.
Straight garbage
11:10 when they mix up your photo with your sons
Nah, Wood won that one. Spinning ain’t everything and it wasn’t that high above the deck.
Never stop skating!!
Crazy skills! Little guys rocks
It's funny how the 900 has literally become a trick for kids
Tas Pappas destroyed himself for this, these kids are just smashing it out first go
yea but one might argue a plain 900 is easier on big air than on an oldschool sized Vert :P
You guys are better then me at Skateboarding
Does anyone else get sweaty palms watching this? God damn, I would die if I had to jump of that thing.
the young kids they doing clean better than older guys
the weedmaps shirt is legit
15:13 Not sure why Trey bailed on that one. Seemed like he had it.
I really got an ad in the middle of a backflip? Wow
So I've been out of the loop for at least a decade or more. Is there multiple X games every year now?
Couldn't say I agree with the judges on this one bad call for sure, Gomes had 2 of the hardest tricks and pulled both of them off. Although it does seem hes building himself up for Bob's fakie 540 to fakie. Seems that's the trick to beat.
The judges are all rigged
Fuggggggging MENTAL!!! Huge Props to ALL the skaters
this is gnarly as
The one who reach to gold medal (see, I am not spoiling you :O) ) definitely deserve it. I am glad for him.
Appreciate you didn't spoil
He was trash if you talking about gomez straight bullshit
So many people in these comments are thinking with a video game mentality or something. BIG AIR is about doing hard tricks *as high as possible* and with keeping the rules and object of the event in mind, these judges were spot on (for the most part, obviously competitions of this nature involve an aspect of subjectivity)
You guys, it has nothing to do with experience, I've heard tony himself say that when your younger you dont have the weight to get the height. That's why they cant. It's no fault of the kids at all.
You're telling me a kid that can do a 900 cant fuckin' carve correctly that's an insult to the kid man.
But yeah, it's totally unfair. Just dont say it's the kids inexperience when hes out here busting a trick that tony did and made the crowd go NUTS, and none of us can do.
Jake brown a true MONSTER! Yeaahh
36:14 beeeeep hahaha love it
Rony Gomez is the Jamie Foy of Big Air. So tech and smooth that the casual observer doesn’t even realize how difficult his tricks are.
A 94.00 for those two tricks? Boy, is my finger not on the pulse of skateboarding
41:35 This front 3 no grab is the most ridiculously underrated trick I have ever seen. How is it possible to keep the board glued to his feet for that?!?
That's because you didn't see the 720 with no grab. THAT is absolutely insane
Magnets. 😅
I don't think the judges were watching the same competition we were watching...
Sucks that you posted the winner right above the full broadcast.
26 yr old was no were near as good as the three 15 yr olds at the start
It was awesome being there live watching our mate jake brown do ok! He nearly had it,but just not quite enough! Ah well, hes won many golds in the past so its cool, still, woulda been impressive to see him win on ozzy soil! No such luck jakeos! Better luck next time!
1:46 what it feels like to fall when hitting a peble
that clip is gnarly
doing 900 on big air vert, now he should do in normal vert
anyone else used to play skate on tony hawk for playstation doing realistic tricks only
Yeah I did! What a great game we had back then. Mat Hoffman Pro bmx aswell
Jake brown should have gone to the lead after his first run
I dont usually watch skateboarding, but i dont get why everytime Rony Gomez does something, everyone goes wild and he gets first place. Compared to the others, he barely seems to do any rotations or tricks?
Trey wood really be slayin tho... 😂😂
Well that's fair... How can a smaller and younger person get more height when Force = mass x acceleration ?
The judges never graduated elementary school or what ?
Yoooo who tf were these judges 😂 I am disgusted
God damn, that was a clutch win!
“He is a all terrain vehicle” why does that sound so savage
Esse é o comentário Brasileiro que você estava procurando kkkkk
Why do they also score the skaters on how high up they go? Surely that's not that controllable since it's due to weight etc so it's not very fair?? Can anyone explain lol
There should be 2 categories. Kids are literally killing it and have crappy scores cause they don't have enough weight to get an acceptable height. That same lack of weight is what let's them pull a 900 that easily. One could say that the ods are even but in Big Air it's the height that counts.
1:50 Death
Bring it on
14:01 anyone hear that?😂💩
Darrell Tu I was checking if anyone else did ;)
Man of culture
good to see Jake back on the horse
Fifteen years, 15 yrs, FIFTEEN YEARS OLD !!!! WTF ?? No hope for me :(
imagine what they will be like in 10 years
33:16 what?
Frank c he must be a Ninja
And the crowd goes AP solutely wild !!!!!!
The judges intelligence is a little down under.
That husky kid is inspirational! Badass. That 900 tailgrab WTF!!!
Jesus christ 14 year olds be throwing down 900s like its nothing.
Jake brown has the most beautiful board I’ve seen
Good job guys you skated good
What about a tailwalk frontflip 520 miracle whip coffin and land it (i play skate 3)
How the f did the 900 get 2nd against the guy who did the same trick before a 540. I don’t understand how that’s possible he landed it perfect
i love fliying in the air
my man jake said sponsors ya i got em but i dont need new boards. man seems pretty humble on the thrashed up thing vs other skaters on a new deck ever other day
The bombast. I just can't take it
