It's just a delight watching this and I remember when I first saw it, just being in awe of effects like the changing background along with the rotating camera that films Jeremy inside the car. And also the black-and-white pictures of legendary cars of the past along with memories from the show really gave this review a much more serious tone than all of the rest - which in turn makes it stand out as, in my opinion, one of if not THE best Top Gear review.

    It's 2019 and I still come back to this. I've been a car enthusiast my entire life and when I first saw this scene it was almost life changing I suddenly understood that the way cars are being built and their purpose are changing very fast. As Jeremy said the economy and government have a very drastic effect on the evolution of cars but so has the general population. Most people treat them as a tool or a convenience so the easy route is to buy cross overs and SUV's BUT to a very few selection of people in this world it's so much more. This video helped me understand years ago that one of my duties as an enthusiast is to spread the love of cars to help the community grow and show people that it's more than a 3000lb chunk of metal and plastic...it's a way of life. When this video came out I was fresh out of high school I'm now married to my beautiful wife who I met through automotive technology classes and through an overall love for cars I am incredibly thankful for her and I feel I will never be able to fully repay this community for the life I have but I try every day to make sure it stays alive for us and for our kids some day. I believe that the growth of the car community helps not only make new friends and family but also helps preserve the history of some of the greatest driver's cars the greatest classics and the overall appreciation for cars that show their spirit when driven. I love this community with all of my heart and soul. I have helped and continue to help this community grow so hopefully the next generation can appreciate and enjoy the wonderful eccentric (sometimes loud) beautiful world of cars ♥️

    I am 19 years old, saved as long as I could remember to own one a manual Vantage. Bought a V8 Vantage last year. She was just totalled today, and then this showed up in my recommended. I'm not sad though, I'm honored to have had the opportunity to learn and grow and experience the last generations of the manual, naturally aspirated sports car. Not the fastest cars of history, but definitely some that provide an experience that no automatic with a turbo can ever recreate. The feeling of shifting, the feeling of the power build as your RPMs climb, the sound of the engine. It's an amazing experience.

    • @JC_C
      @JC_C 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It's less a matter of performance than a matter of purity. V12 NA engines have been the pinacle of a generation. They will be replaced with a new generation of petrol engines, mostly turbocharged to allow downsizing, but then again there will soon be nostalgics of these when electric motors are going to be the new standard. I'm not saying it's bad, just saying that a page is turning.

    • @Ben_Mayall
      @Ben_Mayall 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Taras Shevchenko it has had the worst done though, it now has turbos which ruin a great engine for me and it has been downsized, only by a bit but it's still had the trick done to it, downsize and add turbos.

    I would have liked to think that this was how they were going to finish the show, when the production run was finally over and the trio said "enough's enough". However, it isn't to be. Instead of dying a graceful death, it was chopped up into a huge mess. Either way, this film would have been the perfect eulogy to one of the all time greatest shows ever to grace TV. RIP Top Gear. You will be painfully, painfully missed.

      yeah, totally agree. If you look back on the series they've done after this season 13 ending, they were gradually getting worse. If they'd stopped right after s13, with this clip truly being the end of Top Gear, the show would have gone down in history as 'perfect'.

      sure, they've had their moments, but if you compare let's say the two amphibious car episodes to the ambulance episode from this season you'll see what i mean. Both consist a lot of nonsense, but the amphibious episodes are less scripted and feel more genuine. The ambulance episode felt like they had to come up with something, istead of really wanting to do something. I guess it's also about taste, but to me that's the worst episode they've ever made.

    Whenever Clarkson does a car review, you know it's a good car when he has an endless vocabulary of words and expressions to describe it.
    But when he just simply lets the cinematography, the music, the images, the car do most of the talking, you just simply know it's a seriously wonderful car beyond his words.
    That's proper car journaling that can never be replicated, in my most honest opinion. It truly is an era that's gone.

    I normally hate it when people complain about the quality (360p at best) on these TH-cam clips, but I agree here. A video as astonishingly, breathtakingly beautiful as this, deserves to be shown at the highest quality available, even if that goes against all the commercial interests of the BBC. This is why Top Gear can't work without Jezza, even if Chris Evans turns out to be a good presenter. The cinematography is beautiful, the background music provides an atmosphere that matches the gorgeous views, car and V12 soundtrack and Jeremy talks it all together with a short, but striking and touching commentary. To this day, this is one of my favourite Top Gear clips. It's completely different from the humorous 'ambitious but rubbish' films they normally do, but it pulls it off well. In that regard, only the Alfa 8C Disco Volante film (also presented by Clarkson) comes close. He is different from other motoring journalists in that he would never judge a car by its boot size, its fuel economy, or the build quality, ergonomical properties and soft materials of a dash. He judges a car by how it looks, and sounds, and makes you feel. In that, he and his co-presenters are unique, I genuinely, dearly hope they can continue that properly on their new show on Amazon Prime. Although I am confident they will.

    This makes more sense now than even back then… in an era of EVs, hybrid cars and such, these sports cars with V12, V10 and V8 engines will be dearly missed by us enthusiasts. They are still around but I’m getting more worried every day when a manufacturer says they’ll no longer build V12 and V8 engines, but going to batteries and lifeless cars. I personally will keep driving ICE cars until no longer possible, they can’t just die and I don’t care what anyone says, EVs will never give me the same great feeling an ICE can. This review made me cry when it first aired, it is the only time a car has made me cry and it was beautiful!

    I remember finding this program, completely on accident. I was watching a movie on BBC one night with my mother and looked at the guide to see if anything good was on next. I scanned over a program named "Top Gear" and read the description of the world's best motoring show thinking nothing of it. After the movie I left to get a drink or something, when I came back, to my amazement, the top gear theme was playing. Cars sliding, speeding, and being awesome. I've been hooked ever since.

      As for this car review. This has been forever been imprinted in my mind as one of the best bits of TV I've ever seen. So emotional. I heard the song used in this film recently on the TV, and instantly thought of this. You can't walk away from a program like this, it will always have a place in history.

      I saw 28 Days later the other day and this song was in it and used in almost the same way: the protagonists are in a car while the camera pans to the beautiful scenery of nature and this song is playing. The only difference is that they were driving a taxi and not an Aston.

    I always find myself coming back to this video. I remember being 8 or 9 watching this at my Grandmas house on a DVD i’d been given. I was watching by myself and I couldn’t help but start tearing up. I think I realised that I had missed the golden era of cars. In a time where it’s harder and harder to be a petrolhead I still get the same dreaded feeling as I did back then, that I completely missed the best era to be a petrolhead. I’m happy that I was wrong, and that there are still some incredible cars being made, but I really don’t think there’s long left now. This video has and always will be relevant.

      We still alive and kickin' bruh. Check out your local Audi/VW community or any other car community that attracts gear heads.
      I couldn't think of a better time to be a petrolhead. I've got twin turbo V8 with two car seats that can hit a 1/4 mile in 10.8 seconds at 127 mph trap. I can also pick up the groceries and take my kids to school, and roast just about anything in my city.

    This has always been a beautiful, melancholic, and emotional sequence, as well as an amazing tribute to the great large engines. It is one of the best automobile-related media. It is only becoming more emotional recently, because his words are coming true, sadly. Already, many automotive greats and large engines have ended production, even Lamborghini will make its last, fully powered, real, V12 car, the Aventador, very soon, and the last Aston Martin V12 Vantage will be made in 2023. Indeed, we are living in sad times.

    One of Top Gears more memorable pieces of television. No words were really needed for a car of this beauty. At the same time, the changing world has put cars like this ever closer to becoming antiques, before they're even moderately old. Young guys like myself, who dream of owning a car like an Aston Martin, may never even be able to see one with the way the economies of Europe are going into freefall and the worlds relentless hatred of speed alongside their love of being greener is something 'better'.
    Where as no words can describe a car like the Aston Martin Vanquish, all the words should be used to combat the threat of extinction to our most beloved cars.

      I have watched top gear quite a bit. I was sad that it ended so abruptly, but I don't get the emotional over reaction. There is a thing called perspective, you and all the other emotional "men" on here need some.

      I don’t think it is the car that is causing the goosebumps or a mix of music and car sound. Instead it is all down to just the music from how it is composed along with the frequencies in a few key parts of the music.
