    P.S. I've had people ask if there's a way to support the channel. After looking at the options, I started a Buy Me A Coffee page because it doesn't require any registration or recurring subscriptions. If you want to support me, I appreciate it! But there's no pressure, I'm here to create fun content for people to enjoy however they please. www.buymeacoffee.com/sagefreke1K

    When you were marveling at the ceiling and then saw Ceiling's corpse, haha that was pretty funny. Great video, really enjoying the city tour.

    Your videos are very peaceful and informative. I really enjoyed the walk through and it helped scratched my Classic EQ itch I get every-so often. Thanks for sharing!

    This was great entertainment. I'd definitely support the creation of another video like this. Especially for Cabilis

    Great video Freke! I have tons of memories in these zones. On Mithaniel Marr (pre-Luclin), North Freeport was actually the server wide market zone. The good races hung out in the marketplace near the bank and the evil races hid down in the sewers. I always thought it was a much better place to trade than all the other servers using EC tunnel. It made the city feel absolutely alive!

      That's interesting. Was Neriak still the closest bank for evils?

    The world was young, the mountains green,
    No pit in Freeport yet was seen.
    Aradune stalked the Karana Plains
    GM's still mended bugs and pains.
    No Almar's Guides, no Brewall's maps,
    the players minds where full of gaps.
    But still we played the greatest game
    they won't make one like that again.
    Verant still owned the copyright,
    and the Common Lands tunnel was full and bright!
    (Based on _"Durin's Song"_ from "The Lord of the Rings".)

    Half elves can wear cultural armor from wood, high, and dark elf btw. I think they can descend from any of them.

    Really great video! Great way to pass the time while camping a bard inside one of the Freeport inns. xD
    Was commenting a bit during the whole thing. Mostly stuff like "no wait don't go in there yet!" because of the NPCs I knew were in there. Really surprised that Saxarivsa was dubious to you. In my experience she straight up hates everyone that isn't a dark elf or hasn't outright sworn loyalty to Innoruuk. My agnostic human wizard had problems with her as an example. Good chance you'd be able to make a home in Neriak if you wanted. Was also glad the ogre/barbarian couple wasn't up in the Seafarer's Roost when you went in; they're on the Wolves of the North faction and they hate everything even the tiniest bit evil.
    I think you've literally covered every single square inch of the city except for one small thing. In the basement of Hallard's Resales there's a pretty scary looking dog (that won't attack so no worries) guarding another locked door.
    All in all, pretty awesome journey and I enjoyed watching it. That little hidden gnome trait of being able to see through walls gave even a human native like me who's spent literal years in Freeport a new perspective. :)

      @SageFreke1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely didn't expect an ogre to be on that faction. I'm thinking of trying to deliver that note next video. And yes, I do remember that dog, I did forget to go there!

      @@SageFreke1 Yup that ogre is a barbarian buddy. They're why my Innoruuk human necromancer needs to be careful in that particular bar.
      Would love to see you do some Neriak exploring in your next video. Absolute favorite city in the game. :)

    I've never played EQ and I probably won't but the detail put into this game compared to daoc or wow makes me feel like I missed out on something back in the early 2000s

    TY for putting this together. Interesting information. One issue...please don't move around so much as you explore. Pan and hold on locations as you describe them. It was dizzying at times.

  • @lennym1273
    @lennym1273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Instead of using the arrow keys you might want to use "mouse look" instead it's much smoother, and not so dizzying...

    I read lore once (which I'm pretty sure was canon) that Freeport remained run-down and appearing abandoned in order to dissuade dragon attack ... or something

    I do not play project 99 but I started in Jan of 2001 and created a Paladin and its not like today when you start right in front of the guild master. I popped into the game naked standing outside freeport with no map and no idea where to go but fortunatly someone helped me find the guild hall and even gave me some bronze armor and a sharp sword and sent me on my way.

    I always wondered if players used the stage in Freeport to put on a play or something.

      I saw that happen back in 1999. When gamers were more interested in the roleplaying aspect of the game.

    I would love to know who and how the very first person discovered the secret wall entrances to the sewers. I'd love to hear that story, or do you think a Dev or GM revealed it thru one of their GM events.
    I played beta 3 thru 2004, was a guide on Xegony, loved doing the events and helping players. Norrath became a part of me back then and always will be.
    But I have wondered about the secrets and stuff that players discovered and wanted to know all of the stories of those discoveries.

    • @SageFreke1
      @SageFreke1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'd bet it was a player on their own just exploring! People were crafty back then, even without the Allakhazams of the world

    • @balel1975
      @balel1975 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SageFreke1 Absolutely, I can remember being a guide how many folks discovered because of the terrain in Perma and around Halas there were a bunch of places one could stand and attack the mobs but the mobs couldn't hit back. I was dispatched many a time to give a warning for this type stuff.
      People were very crafty indeed. I miss the days where Google didn't have all the answers and the world as a whole was a mystery. That's one thing that I believe is gone forever. That period of MMORPGS is forever lost due to the total ease of information sharing.
      I remember before I became a Guide as a player making hand drawn maps and uploading them for my friends and guild mates!
      Good times. ☺️ and warm fuzzy feelings in my memory banks. ☺️
