  • At the start of the second day, we received a call warning us of high winds so we moved the boat to a sheltered location. And took the dinghy out instead!!

    Great post, looked very windy, but beautifully sunny. Look forward to the next post.

      +Sarah Martella so windy. Crazy. Without Louie we wouldn't have really made it into the docking for the dinghy

    This looks like a lot of fun, and I'm glad you got to go home and all but we were promised a bathroom reveal! No really, enjoy the trip and stay safe, I'm glad you decided to keep posting boaty stuff while, remember the more different boating you do the more you learn and the more confident you become on the water. That said, Bathroom Reveal?

    • @TheNarrowboatExperience

      +Ted Gallucci spoiler alert the bathroom is not ready for a reveal.

    So did he give you any advice on where to anchor the boat when he called to say it was going to be windy? Kind of short but still a nice video, thanks for taking us along. 👍

    Take care in that dinghy, maybe a life jacket would be a good idea! Thanks.

      +Sylvia Page in retrospect not going in the dinghy in the wind and current would have been a good idea. And then kath can't really swim ...

    Dinghies can be awkward. In the mid 80s I crewed for a friend who had a 20' trailer sailor on a trip to and around the Whitsundays. On our first night anchored, he decided we should motor around the island we were at in his 6' GRP dinghy - which had a small outboard (the motor was about the size of two cigarette packets). I asked how the fuel was, and he said fine ... we ran out at exactly the half way point, and had to row back for about three km against wind and tide.
    Somewhere in this series of vlogs, I think a comment was made about Australia's lack of canals. As it happens, there was a news article today on an unsuccesful attempt near Sydney to provide a canal, which is at www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-21/what-happened-to-sydneys-grand-plans-for-a-system-of-canals/9859904. There's also a bit of information at www.auscanal.org.au/Auscan.html (I've been through the Sale canal) and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canals_in_Australia (We also have a fair few waterways constructed to drain swampy areas, but none of those are navigable.)
    On mangroves, I would have bought a yacht in the 80s when I was living in Qld, but the only cyclone proof anchorage was in the mangroves (I talked to someone who had used them as shelter during a cyclone, and they were very effective) and I didn't want to get eaten alive by the sundry insects. Perhaps ironically, the best mooring I had when I did get a boat in the 90s (in Victoria) was in a marina that had been built in mangroves (all the insects were holidaying in Qld., though). The crustaceans caused a background clicking sound that actually wound up being quite soothing.

    • @TheNarrowboatExperience
      @TheNarrowboatExperience  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info about the waterways. When we visit again we’ll have to see if there is anywhere else we can boat in with no experience!

      I think the Hawkesbury River north of Sydney might be worth a look. It is interesting, largely sheltered, and I think a fair few people who hire boats there do so with little experience.

    I hope you girls are having fun. Just a bit of advice for the audio: Use a high-pass filter to take some of the energy out of the wind noise. It would save a good bit of stress on our speakers. Feel free to ask me if you want me to explain. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

  • @ncplantdoctor

    As others have pointed out, the dinghy was bow heavy but it did not look like there was a place to sit in the stern, so it probably was not possible to adjust your trim. Sure is pretty there, though. Wind or no wind, a day on the water beats a day at work. I just wonder whether Kath will ever be able to take the helm of a narrowboat again without a boats wheel?

      +ncplantdoctor to be honest we are both struggling because it is just so beautiful.

    So this is the “Rowboat Experience” Annamarie you should stick to boats with a motor, now I know where you were the day of the boat tubers BBQ, hardly surprising you could not find CC. It is a lovely spot despite the weather you still should have a lovely day. I am guessing you tipped the boat over on the Lane Cove River and Louise remembered. Everyone who hires them tips them over I think they were designed that way so do not feel bad. 👩‍🦳👩‍🦰🧑‍🦰

    I have to confess... I'm rather enjoying this little alternative boating excursions. Maybe you should commandeer a sailing vessel next time or perhaps a seaworthy barge. This time next near you could be taking the QE2 for a quick spin!

    A lot of thing fell into place when I saw you both in the dingy, at first I thought I was having a case of déjà then I remembered the narrow boat barby and realised why... also my reminder on TH-cam for Exploring Alternatives pops up this morning and who do I see LOL by the way that was a great video. I do enjoy your posts and seeing what you ladies get up to thank you. BUT
    Please, please wear life jackets even if you can swim better safe than sorry.

    I'm loving the daily vlogs! Such beautiful scenery. That sunset was gorgeous! Was it my imagination or was Kath clinging on to the sides of the dinghy? X

    • @TheNarrowboatExperience
      @TheNarrowboatExperience  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mandy Smith not your imagination- she was. And yelling at me about hating mangroves- then finally explaining that she couldn't swim.

      The Narrowboat Experience taking all that into account Kath deserves a medal just for getting into the dinghy x

  • @bagwan98
    @bagwan98 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Kath should have sat in stern facing fwd, you were in danger of fwd pitch/capsize!

    • @TheNarrowboatExperience
      @TheNarrowboatExperience  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea ... although there was nowhere to sit at that end unless I sat on the side - then we would of had a massive lean on!

    • @bagwan98
      @bagwan98 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dingy is very small, but you should have draped your unused lifejacket over stern transom and sat there.Fwd facing passenger can also warn rower of things ahead!

      You two do make me laugh :) Kath is obviously much more at home with an engine and proper steering to control! In the dinghy..I was expecting to hear her say "Not happy Jan!" (You'll probably have to explain that Anna :) )
