    Kosem is acting like Safiye now, just like Safiye said she would if she stayed in the Palace long enough.

    • @persephone342
      @persephone342 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Safiye played mind games with everyone, including herself. Don’t get me wrong, Safiye was a Queen and an extraordinary woman all in her own right. Such comparisons between two great women devalue the accomplishments of both.
      Kossem’s situation was unique, being that she became the actual Sultan during her extremely long tenure. Nobody was trying to kill Safiye’s sons other than her own son, Mehmed. Mehmet forbid her to get involved in politics, because that was Nurbanu’s area of expertise and she was the only woman he listened to on matters of state.
      Sokollo was probably the second most brilliant Grand Vizier in Ottaman history. He served 4 sultans during his long career. He ran the military and Nurbanu ran the politics. After their deaths, Mehmed went to Safiye for advice. She never had the type of power that Kösem was given.
      Safiye was lucky to not have had the same type of power Kösem had. She wouldn’t have wanted it, seriously. Kösem didn’t want it either, but she had to take it on to save not only her children, but the subjects of the Ottoman Empire. When you’re a ruler, you’re a servant first. You must serve the people or they will revolt and murder you and everyone and anything you love. Just look at what happened to Osman. Also, eliminating Fratricide had just been put into law after Ahmed died. Of course, they were going to be blow backs on changing hundreds of years of customs overnight. I don’t envy what Kösem went through. Out of all the sultana’s, Kösem would have had more in common with Suliman than any of her or his contemporaries. Both were forced to make terrible sacrifices in order to keep the empire together. We saw Suleiman grieve for the rest of his life after he killed Abraham, Mustafa and Bayezid. And we see Kossem refused to allow her self to grieve everything that happened to her and her children during the early years of their lives. Hurrem thought she had enemies, her enemies were powder puff compared to Kösem‘s. Hurrem did a good job training Nurbanu, who then trained Safiye who then trained Kösem. Hurrem fought to put her children on the throne and eliminate outside threats. Kösem fought to keep her children alive, and the children that weren’t born from her alive. Kossem also had the terrible responsibility and loneliness that came from being the sultan her self. I mean let’s get real, Murad was just a child, and she assumed the position so it wasn’t like he was coregent in reality. As a woman who had to take on a male dominated family business and sacrifice the things that I had to sacrifice, Kösem‘s story truly speaks to me and it’s heartbreaking.

      Kosem only weakness is her unconditional love for her children. She wanted to protect and give them all change to live instead of just being killed so the sake of power as the old law dictates. The fact that she chose to put Osman in power instead of her own first born Hemed means she really truly loved him as the rest of her children, because it was easy for her to just put her first born son on the trone since she has and have aways has that power to enthroned whoever she wanted; that's something nor Hurem or any of the past Sultanas have done before or after her. Her husband kept saying that he loves his children and don't want them to killed each other but he didn't change the law and didn't want to do it as he could, she had to do it herself for the sake of all of her husband's children including Osman and the little boy that have a different mother as well. And even when Osman killed her son, she never tries to harm ( something that she could easily do), people loves Hurem and hate Kosem and keep comparing them becauae of the wickedness of human beings are too much and ungrateful hearts and blinded by the ignorance. Kosem is Unique Indeed that's why she was the greatest Sultana that was ever existed and that became not only the legal wife, Queen mother but the Empress herself. None of the Sultana can never be compared to her not even Hurem, she was Unique and has surpasses them way above. And i believe that all of the Sultans(men) and Sultanas ( women) died unnatural death even if the books says otherwise because of power and we have to remember that what happens within the palace walls and what is written ( publish) about it is only what the powerfuls want us to know or believe, just like in today's society as well. In my opinion, at least within this movie. Kosem Sultan was a more effective, diplomatic and intelligent leader than her son. We all know the character, she will eventually end the rebellion at least if they don't favour her. Anger is one character that clouded Sultan Murad's judgement. He virtually did everything out of anger before good judgement and bias also. But I will say, he was a great Sultan who won many battles and brought about many outstanding revolutions. However, we all have our demons.

    • @JustSomeSlavicBoy
      @JustSomeSlavicBoy ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No. She let it happen for 9 years, she lost territory etc...
      I agree that the anger is the one thing that keeps Murad from being great. HOWEVER Kösem willingly put the empire in danger so she doesn't have to give up her power.
      But why bother arguing, actions speak louder than anything else:
      Kösem rulled for 9 years, she put self-serving pashas in charge and lost territory.
      Murad rulled by himself for 8 years and he executed disloyal pashas, stopped the rebellion and gained more territory than any other sultan ever since Sultan Suleiman died.
      You see the problem is that Kösem used her judgement to serve herself (sure, she used her kids wellbeing as an excuse but later episodes show that she was really just lying herself about that). Shortly said she had no vision for the empire she rulled. On the other hand Murad is perhaps not that cold minded and smart but you can really tell that he wants a legacy that will outlive him.

    In a parent's life, there comes a time when they are supposed to stop leading and start supporting and guiding their next generation... When Ahmed wanted Safiye to move to the Old Palace the first time and she came to Kosem, Kosem agreed with Ahmed and said to Safiye that she won't talk to Ahmed about it because she too feels it's time... Why didn't she feel it was now time to start backing and guiding her son instead of not letting him take power? For the very first time in this series, I feel Kosem didn't do right. She should have beemed with joy when he conducted that open house at the beginning of this episode... I would have been proud as a parent... Ahmed was also very young when he took the throne... If he needed obedience and independence from his very old and very experienced grandmother, then why not Murad? I've always felt Kosem as 100% level-headed till now but... now she is arrogant and her pride seems more important to her than her children, just like for Safiye her pride was more important than her grandson, Ahmed... Sad turn of events... Only good thing is, now we won't have to feel sad when they are tearing her apart because I already feel sad that she has lost herself anyways...

      safiye was ahmed's grandmother. kosem is murat's mother and his regent for 10 years. safiye was never ahmed's regent. she didn't have any claim over his sultanate. there's difference. also, kosem already stepped back once - went to eski saray during osman's reign and lived there for years. what good did it bring? only grief and mourning for her. so no, she is being very reasonable here. it's not about being a blind fan, but about critical thinking.

If only Kusem Sultan minds her own business and stays in her room and rules the Harem instead of competing with her own son over power and throne. She made a lot of mistakes and she's not qualified to rule the country, okay she managed to make peace for 10 years when her son was still a child, but obviously she did not make any victory she wasn't successful like Sultan Suleiman. @deniseg-hill1730 it's not like you could take anyone as slave. It's captives of war, i.e. those non-combatants who accompany men in the battlefield. Muslims either exchanged those captives in prisoner exchange, or released them for ransom, or distributed as slaves. It shouldn't be confused with western slavery at the time, many aspects of it in Islam are different. Islam commands feeding, clothing and treating them in a respectful manner. What he has to go through life was so much harder and painful that among the five strongest Sultans he should be considered the unhappiest in personal life, with a non-supportive mother, whose eye was always on the sultanate power! Cannot forget the scene of an 8-year-old boy prepared to protect his siblings with his wooden sword!
    On top of that, who wouldn’t like to be in Farya’s place, waking up and seeing the actor playing Murad IV in all his glorious youth dressed in a wonderful suit! Metin Akdulger is nearly as handsome as the young Selim!

He tried to set up a state with the help of the Enderun but had to contend with the power of the ulemas, he tried to create a sort of Domesday Book for his empire, he campaigned ineffectually against Persia three times, his only gain being Baghdad and his right to become the caliph of Mecca and Medina. Murad went against the Safavids, because all Suleiman’s gains had been lost in the meantime, and he regained Belgrade. Sultan Murad - a true Muslim leader - who using Quran as their reference to rule the world. Same like Sultan Mehmed Al-Fatih, Sultan Murad Khan ( Sultan Mehmed II's father), Sultan Bayezid I (Sultan Mehmed al-Fatih 's grandfather) Sultan Selim I, Sultan Suleiman I, Sultan Murad III.
    And Sultan Murad Khan IV (in this episode) also acknowledge that a woman (Sultana) cannot be a ruler eventhough that woman is his mother - thats what Quran & Islam said.
