    love my 6qt instant pot. I do still use my slow cooker from time to time as well. it has sentimental value to me and I will not throw it away until it no longer works. I have used both at the same time.

      I am also guilty of keeping my slow cooker - and I've definitely used it at the same time I've used my Instant Pot (at parties and whatnot) - not gonna lie, it's super handy to have both when I need them!

    Why not both? There are several multicookers with both functions.

    Haha, you totally crack me up! You are so awesome! Instant pot, but not instant results and then with the slow cooker. :) The only time I use my slow cooker is to keep food hot for birthday parties. I honestly love my Joule! I love that I can sous vide at home like what I used to do in the industry, before kids.

    My $12 4cup rice cooker makes better rice and my tiny $10 slow cooker cooks meat more tender. My old school stove pressure cooker is the fastest and last but not least my instant pot makes everything but doesn't taste as good. Jack of all trades, master of none.

    • @Ladythyme
      @Ladythyme 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      niacal4nia I totally agree! Think I’ll be ditching my Instant pot and invest in a stove top pressure cooker. One of my slow cookers does have a timer and shut off as well as a browning feature ... not parting with it for sure! The Instant Pot’s slow cooker feature can’t compare taste-wise for certain.

    There really is no contest here. The slow cookers, crackpot is the best way to go. It's a wonderful way of making good food. All you need to do is put all the ingredients and put the lid on and let it cook for the whole day. How much easier can we get then that! I think instant pots are overrated. And frankly, how many more appliances do we actually all need? Most of us have limited space. No, I'm sticking with the crock pot.🤦‍♂

    • @HotelMari0Maker
      @HotelMari0Maker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Literally one of the selling points of the instant pot is having an all-in-one device. Did you watch the video or did you just comment without watching it?

  • @weirdnomad8868
    @weirdnomad8868 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    After I got my pressure cooker I got rid of my rice cooker and my slow cooker. All the test videos that say the instant pot isn't as good as a slow always use the instant pot wrong. You can't use the exact same recipe since there's virtually no evaporation with an instant pot so in order to prevent your dish from being too watery you reduce the water and in order to prevent your veggies from getting mushy you don't add them until the very end, simple as that.

    I have a slow cooker that has a stovetop function for browning and an automatic warm function when cooking is done, so I love it. I've considered the Instant Pot, but I try to avoid buying kitchen additional appliances. I think the time it takes to pressure up and pressure down might annoy me.

    • @TheStarvingChef
      @TheStarvingChef  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that's definitely a con to the IP with the time it takes to get to pressure, but it can do everything else a slow cooker can so i was able to get rid of a rice cooker and a different slow cooker so it actually saved me space lol

    • @Ladythyme
      @Ladythyme 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Donna Urso you are absolutely correct! I totally agree...recipe advertising is deceiving...The pressure up and down takes more time than it’s worth.Not mention the messy steam it creates all over 🥴... I also have a $10 microwave rice cooker...that I stash with my Tupperware...cooks 2 cups raw rice in 13 minutes ...I don’t even use my Instant pot for that since that is faster with less mess... yup thinking of ditching the IP altogether

    Easiest way to not forget a slow cooker is cooking, turn it on before work, takw it off when you get home. (But im kinda boring so I usually go home after a work day, but i belive thats what they were built for, something that cooks while your at work... Or if its thanks giving, something that cooks while your making the other hundred dishes you saw on pinterest)

    I was thinking of getting a instapot but I have a great slow cooker, it’s larger than an instant pot and it go to warm function after the set time runs down and it has a lot of settings. It has 3 temp settings and can be set for 4,6,8,10 hours. As far as making yogurt, that not for me. For rice I use a microwave rice cooker that takes 14 minutes for perfect rice. I still looking for a reason to get one. Storing space is an issue in my kitchen so I can one have one. Thanks for sharing

  • @ebonibrandon
    @ebonibrandon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I use both and I have a rice cooker as well. Lol. I almost never use the stove anymore. While rice or pasta and veggies are in the rice cooker steaming, I may have had my meat going in the slow cooker ready to come out and a pudding, cheesecake or cake in the instant pot. I like my rice cooker for travel because of the steam basket. I can cook a whole meal in it. Rice, veg, fish, chicken breast. Soups, ribs and roasts in the instant pot. And anything i need done right down to macaroni pie in the slow cooker when i want to enjoy a home cooked meal if I have a long or lazy day planned.

    I find the Instant pot "burns" often and shuts down. This happens when cooking a variety of recipes. It helps a bit to saute on a separate pan first instead of using the saute function on the Instant Pot. The slow cooker function doesn't produce as good of results as my actual slow cooker. I still use my instant pot because my wife is Mexican and it makes easy/quick shredded meat, but still keep the slower cooker around.

    • @TheStarvingChef
      @TheStarvingChef  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I find when the IP gives the burn alert that there just needs to be more liquid in the pot. If you add another quarter cup of water or similar liquid, that should help a lot! You can always reduce the amount of liquid using the saute mode after the pressure cooking is done :) But I do agree - I still have my slow cooker and still use it frequently (shh don't tell the internet)

    Great comparison. I use a slow cooker a lot, but I recently bought an Instant Pot. Is there a conversion chart for going from the slow cooker to the Instant Pot? I make French Dip in the slow cooker, is there a conversion to the Instant Pot? I make Beef Bourguignon in a Dutch oven, is there a conversion to the Instant Pot? Will these recipes taste differently using the Instant Pot?

    No, miss, it's really not hard at all. I've owned several I-Pots in various sizes; on slow cook function they all have tested out at 205-208F, the ideal temp. Far too many dedicated slow cookers will boil the crap out of your food, even on Lo for some. Stick to the I-Pot and not some cheapie imitation, though.

    Hey. You're super cute. But that's not why I'm here. I got the instapot duo crisp and I'm intimidated by it. I don't know how to use it. I need to change my diet with the quickness. Can you make some videos on how to use it to cook chunks of meat. Like beef, onions, potatoes, n such. I need the meat as tender as it can get. Soft rice would be cool too. I got dental prosthetics and can't really chew with them yet. Need soft foods. Thanks so much

    Some 35 years after an uncle gave me a crock pot for my small apartment in London, and 2 years after I re-bought a stove-top pressure cooker, I finally bought a second-hand Instant Pot two weeks ago. I was a bit dubious at first, but I'm really starting to appreciate it. I think I'm now ready to get rid of my old crock-pot, and pressure cooker. I like the Instant Pot, not for the normal reasons, but because it is eco-friendly. It is FAR more heavily insulated than either the crock-pot or pressure cooker. Although natural gas is 4x cheaper than electricity where I live, the Instant Pot is approaching 4x more efficiency, so it is an even match. But it also does all of the other functions and takes up less room than several other appliances. I'm wary of Sous Vide because I don't trust the accuracy of the temperature, but I'm prepared to calibrate it (but I doubt I will ever get rid of my Sous Vide Express machine, but an additional sous-vide machine that can be run at a different temperature is welcome).
