M Styles - wrong, wrong, wrong. Age has everything to do with it. Some of these dancers are semi-professional dancers selected to make the Soul Train dance sphere attractive and entertaining. These people are no more representative of average blacks at that time than a Miss America pageant is representative of women at any given time. These people are young and in their physical prime 18-24yrs old. There are obese people in this country, but there are also plenty of slim fit people too. You said the people, in your experience, that are in the best shape are all over the age of 40. That sounds biased and is almost certainly a misperception of reality probably based largely on the people that you associate with at this point in your life. Physical fitness, health, and weight, are primarily the result of 4 main factors; genetics, age, diet, and level of physical activity. 1. Genetics - our individual genetic coding determines our individual default metabolism. And even though physical activity and diet (including medications both legal and illegal) can "disturb" or disrupt our natural metabolism it is a natural phenomenon as old as the human animal itself that metabolism is more active and "aggressive" when we are born and in our youthful years to support growth and development and naturally slows as we age. 2. Physical activity - of course the more physically active you are, the healthier you will be. 4. Age - The human animal, like all living organisms goes through a natural cycle of life. People are not born with grey hair, bad knees, and wrinkles. That's a result of the aging process. As for the race, bigot comment, I'm not sure you understand what a bigot is. The definition of a bigot is someone who is intolerant of the differences of others. Nothing I said suggested intolerance. The only reason I mentioned race at all is because Soul Train is very widely known to have been an African American television show with an African American host, featuring African American music artists, and minority studio dancers and guests. You should get your sensitivity in check. You shouldn't allow the mere mention of race to cause you to go the defense.
I remember when I was really, really little....that was one of my first memories. The see through outfits. I remember a lady on a tv show was singing and she was wearing a bustier/bra and you could see through. My dad covered my eyes. Lol. Just a few years earlier and the pants were flared so wide and here it's skinny jeans and spandex. Love the lady in the beginning with the jeans and belted sweater.
Watching this clip makes me feel so many things. I think it's called "nostalgia". I was just turning 14 when this song was on the radio ( I think I just truly dated myself). I remember many of these dancers cause they were on every week . I don't think I missed a single airing of Soul Train from 1977 to 1987. Soul Train truly represented my youth and I really miss that time.
What happened to soul train? Everyone looked so healthy and full of energy. Not worrying about the next man or woman. Nowadays everybody staring at each other.
I agree with you 100%. Women definitely looked better back then! I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that people remained natural…The way it was meant to be. Now you see women trying to look like men… And men trying to look like women… nobody even knows what the heck gender they are anymore!! 😂 I miss those old days when life was just a lot simpler.
Stephanie parker These people get free food stamps nowadays. My aunt was telling me that back in the 70's they had to pay for them! Plus those who get them now don't cook home made meals! They just load their TWO grocery carts down with microwaveable food along with several packages of cookies, ice cream, and loads of chips holding up grocery lines forever and then spend all day on the computers not exercising at all other than setting the microwave timer and that is why so many are fat and acquiring cancer and diabetes! Sad reality!
I think it has more to do with the way food is processed/injected with hormones and yes physical activity. I don't think it has much to do with weather it's free or not. There are plenty of fat people who PAY for every morsel of food they eat!!!! LOL
I wish I was born during this period. Look at how free they express themselves. Nowadays when you dance like this ppl look at you like an idiot. "ultimate level of self expression"
I was, 73 to be exact, and as a kid in the 70's low crime, killin wasn't big at all, my parents and their friends partied and dance like no other decade, it really looked like they new how to let loose and have fun, unlike how things turned into, people are soo uptight now and don't really know how to let loose. sad af!
To every teen of this generation reading this, please make the most of your existence in the here and now and see the good in your generation. This was indeed a beautiful time but we were all born in the time God intended us to be in. Just be the change you want to see. I know we all have our opinions, and I'm not tryna make you change yours just trying to help you see it from a different point of view. I'm also pretty young and I know the feeling of being sad about something you had no control over, like the time you were born in for example. Just thought I'd share that.
If you can manage to tap into the joy of this video and spread all around inside yourself, you can heal yourself of anything. What a blessing to have this!
Facts and also look how beautiful those women are. ALL NATURAL!. Real hair, real bodies, real everything. This is what healthy looks like. Dont let Major corporations kill you. Eat all local, organically raised food. Big Corporations pack their foods full or steroids, hormones, preservatives and all types of other chemicals that are literally altering our DNA.
@@joeydips7866 Studies has shown that many chemicals in food can alter your DNA. This isn't me speculating, it is a proven scientific fact. How that exactly happens, I am not a Molecular Biologist, but it makes sense that consuming certain artificial chemicals into your diet can have significant impact on your body, and hence be passed on in your genes and alter your offspring.
@@EnlightenedGoldenBeauty Well because men have moreso been bigger and tended to be more obese even back then, whereas 90% of women back then were so thin and beautiful and it is so substantially different. If you look at obesity statistics, woman have DRASTICALLY surpassed men in the past 50 years and its quite alarming. Men, as a whole have stayed around the same with some obesity increases, whereas women have skyrocketed. But I will absolutely admit men were also far better looking and healthy looking back then... I mean, just look at body building now. Men are FREAKS, whereas the bodies of the 60's and 70's were aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Absolutely EVERY PERSON who danced in the "Soul Train" line really knew how to dance!! I used to watch this show when I was young, anticipating the day it would come on TV.
The food the air the water were all az lot cleaner than now.The EPA and the Ecology movement was very strong then. Ralph Nader and the consumer protection agency were very powerful among other citizens watch dog groups So people were more community oriented at the time.
Born in 91 and a LOVE watching old videos like this, listening to old music, classics, even folk music. I love that old school vibe like diners, drive in theater, poetry slams and settings like The Den (from Moesha) where people listened to artist and had a good time and eat or when people dressed up to go to the club like Ella Fitzgerald or Vivian Green on stage. Ahh take back to those times.
I'm so glad you posted that. I'm nearing 60 and loved "Soul Train" back in the day. But that time can stand on its own merits. We don't need to add a put-down at the end.
No because the current one sucks by all standards. It's just unfortunately our reality. I'm sure that will change though. Hopefully people will demand a return to purity of spirit and not all this dark mess we have today.

pure joy. no synchro, no BS, pure fun
How wild would it be to be watching this and see a young version of your grandparents getting down jammin
Healthy bodies and healthy food just a distant memory now
These days people just wanna eat a ton of junk food and go shoot up a Walmart and kill people
The plastic see through pants at 1:14....LOL....
spandex and heels on the ladies use to get me going so bad....
LOL she should be dancing with the guy in brown @1:49
So glad those never caught on. We had fashion disasters aplenty already in those times
that was a plastic pants
I remember when I was really, really little....that was one of my first memories. The see through outfits. I remember a lady on a tv show was singing and she was wearing a bustier/bra and you could see through. My dad covered my eyes. Lol. Just a few years earlier and the pants were flared so wide and here it's skinny jeans and spandex. Love the lady in the beginning with the jeans and belted sweater.
This brings a huge spontaneous smile to my face! 😃
😊
I'm so glad to have black family members too. Greetings from Brazil!❤
Between the song, the venue, and the dancers,
this is one of America's greatest cultural moments.
Yes yes yes 😊
One of the best group of dancers they've had on this show. This is awesome!
MAN THE ENERGY, PRESENCE, THE SELF RESPECT AND THE STYLE IS UNMATCHED 😍 I watch soul train to feel good !
What happened to soul train? Everyone looked so healthy and full of energy. Not worrying about the next man or woman. Nowadays everybody staring at each other.

Everyone is staring at the phone screen.

What MERMAID said 👆🙄👆
It's not COOL to dance at a dance. YOU just get on the floor and grind on each other!
Nah bro is right people be staring hard nowadays trying to act hard and one up each other

Definitely My Era I Loved The late 70s and 80s
MICHEAL WAS THE MAN . REST IN HEAVENLY PARADISE MR. JACKSON. WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AND WE WILL NEVER EVER FORGET YOU.
Miss the 70's and 80's. Good times. Love the way women were natural and beautiful. Really like the jumpsuit the lady at 1:24 is wearing.
@@jimbigboystoys4077 shut up
Freedom of self expression, not a boring moment and real fun. Miss the good old days.
I swear I was born in the wrong era lol this looks so fun
Welkom 2 the club.I wanna go back to the 60s,70s and 80s
Same.. let's have a party!!!
So get up and dance Kris!
@@Tiffany.1970 welcome to the club, it would be great if we could have a party in the best style was disco :)
Oh it was🎉🎉 and the male dancers were a hot commodity😂All the ladies wanted them💃💃💃
The 70's and 80's were The Hippest times in modern history. We HAVE YO get back to that Vibe.🤔😉🙄
They were so lean back then! This was BEFORE the food started getting tampered with!!!
Stephanie parker You are so right. Food wasn't tampered with & people spent more time outdoors. Physical activity in general.
LOL
Rara Ra Who are "these people"?
+Stephanie parker They are DANCERS and dancers TEND to be lean.
Back when both women and men can have fun and express themselves

Nobody even today could dance as good as them!
Lol please watch The Dance Awards. Some of the top child dancers in that event would put them all to shame
@@DeepSeas.. Break dancers? 😄
I agree
Getting addicted on binging on this Soultrain.. back when everyone is skinny, fun and awesome dancer!
Damn - no way we can’t compete with these folks 😂
Talk for yourself, dear .... ;-)

Why compete
Why not exercise a lil' repeat
😁
Wow! Just watched a bunch of the Train Line dances in a row, and this one really stood out. Amazing!
Hell yeah! I am SO glad I grew up with this show and this awesome music!! ❤️
Those brothers and sister owned the world back then ❤
I wish I was born during this period. Look at how free they express themselves. Nowadays when you dance like this ppl look at you like an idiot. "ultimate level of self expression"
i wish i was born in this era 😒
I was, 73 to be exact, and as a kid in the 70's low crime, killin wasn't big at all, my parents and their friends partied and dance like no other decade, it really looked like they new how to let loose and have fun, unlike how things turned into, people are soo uptight now and don't really know how to let loose. sad af!
disco bear not in all of us my friend, I used to think like that as well.. most have no clue fam, it has to be relearned by the masses.
Just thought I'd share that.
you look good girl...enjoy your youth and your time as a young person...remember it only happens once..then its gone...you keep dancin beautiful....
Jalyssa Moss ugh me too😫😫😫
The world wasn't perfect in the 80s&90s, but going to the clubs, going to school, etc. made everything come together.✌️😁
Got MJ's "Off The Wall" vinyl album for a birthday present as a girl from Mom & Dad - was over the moon.❤❤❤❤🤗
Even as a middle class young white girl, I loved watching & learning from Soul train more than A.BS. Still awesome moves to this day💜
It was "far-out"! Lol. Notice how classy everyone was? So much fun...no vulgarity, just happiness and freedom. Our youth have no idea...♥️♥️♥️

I wish that energy and fun would come back to music.
We have try to bring it back
Everybody is having natural fun and no bbl's. Everyone is natural. 😂
One of the few times when the men clearly out danced the women.
Very true!! They were too busy trying to be cute!! But that's ok.🙂
Its so sad how men r so scared of dancing now days that they have to give mean looks to any men that wants to have real fun
@@johnfolsomtroy Nope. They're good dancers. I take it you have no good dance moves at all.

@Jay Rock Right? Like....................................................... They definitely had cares in the world.
My mom say this generation dont know fun like back then only thing we know is war amongst our own kind and she was right
Facts and also look how beautiful those women are.
@@JonHop1 how do they alter our DNA? Please elaborate
@@JonHop1 Why do y’all only focus on the women as if the men wasn’t better back then too?. They wasn’t sagging, too cool to dance, and acted like men
@@EnlightenedGoldenBeauty Well because men have moreso been bigger and tended to be more obese even back then, whereas 90% of women back then were so thin and beautiful and it is so substantially different.
Michael was too good for this world.

Why was everyone so good looking in the 70s 😂, take me back NOW
No processed foods & LOTS of dancing!
There was no "Super Size" junk food back then --- people ate vegetables instead of a whole bag of chips

My parents back in the day...my dad would have been dancing in skates...fun times 😢
It's great seeing them dance without no one asking what are you doing? These days you can't even have fun and dance without someone looking at u crazy
true..you should add the mobile phones and social media
The Asian couple went in like it was there last day dancing
This is great. Can we just appreciate this era without knocking the current one?
I'm so glad you posted that. I'm nearing 60 and loved "Soul Train" back in the day. But that time can stand on its own merits. We don't need to add a put-down at the end.
Nope
YES!! YES!!!! YES!!! thank you.
No. The current one SUCKS.
No because the current one sucks by all standards. It's just unfortunately our reality. I'm sure that will change though. Hopefully people will demand a return to purity of spirit and not all this dark mess we have today.
