I absolutely feel that we should not comment on other’s weight or appearance. I have lost weight recently mainly due to a health condition, I am constantly told I look so well when I am in fact sick with a progressive illness. Saying things like “wow, you look great, how much weight have you lost?” can make a person feel they must have looked awful with the weight on. We are all more than our weight and our appearance. Just because a person earns their living online does not, I feel, entitle people to publicly comment negative views. Think them, yes, we all have our opinions but you don’t always have to share those opinions. Just my thoughts.
I don’t usually comment, but just wanted to come on and say thank you for your honesty and vulnerability. It’s refreshing to hear a digital creator speak so candidly on topics that most of us can relate to. And just to say there’s no shame in your game, you look as beautiful and as stylish as ever. And I agree, no one has the right to body shame you or anyone else for that matter. I always look forward to and get inspired by your vlogs and content. It’s good to have you back. Hx
The BEST advice that I ever heard about commenting on appearance is this: if you're commenting on something that a person did not do to their appearance that morning, do NOT comment on it. Examples, "Wow I love that shirt!" "I like how you styled your hair today!" are both fantastic comments because you're giving someone kudos for a simple choice. Never say things like "Wow, you're so tall!" (that person could feel self conscious on their height), "I love your freckles" (they could hate them or have a history of skin cancer in the family they're scared of). The special rule for commenting on weight is: never say anything about weight loss UNLESS you know that someone has been actively trying to lose weight and they're doing it in a healthy way (if it's being done in an unhealthy way, or because they're sick, or grieving a loved one, this comment can be triggering), and NEVER ever comment on weight gain unless a person brings it up themselves and are signaling that it would be helpful for them to talk about it with you. It's good to remember that things we intend to be positive, may not be seen that way, and if it's not something that you'd say to your best friend, don't say it to a stranger.
I agree with this much! You have basically summarised what I have been trying to say for a while. My friends and I are on a “compliment for things other than physical appearance mission” and I am going to share this with them!
What people write online never ceases to shock me. The fact that someone would take the time to screenshot and send you photos comparing you actually blows my mind. Truly hideous, I’m so sorry you received such an unkind hurtful message. You look fabulous, and you always have, regardless of any little changes. More importantly you are clearly very happy these days and it’s a joy to behold. x
You are one of my favorite youtubers because of your thoughtfulness and your intelligence and your eye for design/fashion and your soothing content and your honesty/vulnerability, and if someone feels the need to comment on your appearance, that means they prioritize the extremely shallow things in life, which is very sad. Keep being you, girl, the rest of us are cheering you on!
The part at the beginning is exactly what I needed. I've been feeling crap recently about my body because quarantine has meant I can't get the daily activity I used to get from my commute or just day to day life. Even though I work out almost 5 days a week my body has changed a lot. Thank you for your honesty. We will all be ok!!!!
Very giving of you to share such a personal experience. Can definitely relate to people equating a smaller body size with being healthier and happier when it's so often not the case. Your content has never been more inspiring and you look beautiful!
Those first 8ish minutes are why I love watching your videos so much. Like you, I was also at more or less my lowest point when I looked “healthy” and slim to the outside world and everyone was complementing me. And now these past months you see so many people talking about doing a lot of workouts during lockdown, or afterwards getting their “pre lockdown bodies” back. It’s all just so toxic and you don’t know what’s going on in someone’s life by looking at their size and how much space they take up in the world.
I NEVER comment on videos, but I just have to say to you: AMEN! Thank you for saying what you did and doing so very tactfully and kindly. You are absolutely stunning and I’m so glad you are healthier and happier NOW.
Watched this video for the arket haul originally (which I love everything, absolutely comfortable cool pieces), BUT really loved the portion in the beginning and it set a wonderful intention for my day. I love your content as always.
I hate body commentary in all forms - compliments, insults... it all puts weight on a pedestal. Bodies change, minds change. Let's let our bodies be where they wanna be in the present moment. It's not that difficult to understand. Thanks for sharing Alix!
Thank you for this vulnerable discussion! About 2 years ago, I dropped down to what I called "my ideal weight". How did I do it? I essentially starved myself for 9 months. I was tried. I was having horrible headaches. Body aches. You name it. But I liked the way I looked for the first time since I was QUITE young. Once I realized what I was doing (and yes, you don't always realize it) and I started to improve my relationship with food, I gained the weight back quite quickly. People had a lot to say to me about it (and I'm not a public figure by any means). But what they didn't understand that for the first time in years, I had ENERGY. I was taking care of myself. I could workout without feeling like I was going to pass out. I was HEALTHIER than I had been in the years previous. That we live in a society that equates weight and health is so infuriating. Also, in light of recent world events, I have read some really interesting articles about how thinness and fatphobia are very closely related to white supremacy and the dehumanization of black bodies. Something I never knew before! Thanks for sharing.
Just wanted to jump in here and give you some love x You have been radiating more beauty and warmth in this recent year than any other time. You do not need to justify anything for anyone online. You are thriving and we are here for it : ))
Alix, I feel like this is so relatable. I totally nodded through most of your body content because I've been there. People have no right to comment on your body just because you're in the public eye and even in my life - friends, family members, strangers have no right to comment on mine. It's super hard to be a woman on a good day with our own insecurities and it is not helpful or healthy to hear criticism from others. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said when you had a more "pleasing" body years ago you were making everyone happy in a sense but internally you were not treating yourself well and were dealing with depression. I think this is so important to bring up because so many times it's celebrated when people see perhaps a slimmer body and it creates this idea that you could be dying inside but at least people are happy even if its at your expense. Very toxic indeed.
Why someone would spend time taking screenshots of previous pictures of you, like you aren’t aware of yourself, under the guise that they’re doing you a favor is absolutely insane to me. Self-esteem is such a treacherous game and social media has made it so much worse. I’m grateful to you for putting out great content and exchanging with us when insane and mean people think they should tell you their unsolicited opinion. I’m very happy to hear you’re in such a great place.
I totally agree that people should just not comment on other people’s bodies ever. Even if they think it’s a compliment. My husband has Thyroid cancer and after surgery, he lost a lot of weight really fast due to the thyroid replacement medication, which was absolute hell on his body. Any time someone would compliment him, he’d just say that it’s because of cancer and watch them cringe internally. No one can ever know why someone gains or loses weight and frankly, it’s no one else’s business!
Alix, you are - and always have been - beautiful! Watching your content and especially your stories with Joe on Instagram show that your life is a happy and fulfilled one. I am so pleased to hear that you are feeling good. Thank you for those first 8 minutes. I needed them.
I have never commented on a video before but the first section of your video really struck a chord with me. The way you spoke weight gain/ loss was incredibly thoughtful and I wish others addressed this too as many are affected by similar insecurities. Thank you for using your platform to talk about such important and valid issues recently. ✨
Thanks for your honesty about body image/body shaming. ❤️ 1) Our bodies change as we age. We shouldn’t be shamed for looking different from our early twenties to mid/late twenties and beyond! That is completely normal and expected! 2) yes, the pandemic has vastly impacted things in terms of gym classes and even being outside. And like you said, that’s okay. It is what it is. We need to give ourselves and each other grace during this time. There’s so much to be stressed about nowadays-if we come out of this just having gained a few pounds here or there, we are so very lucky! Easier said than done, I know, but we should all aim to try it! Anyways, thank you for bringing up this topic and speaking to it in such a rational and articulate way! You’re a babe, inside and out 😍
To me it is so glaringly obvious that you’re happier now. You’re absolutely glowing and radiant. I’m so happy you’re in a good place in your relationship and general life. I hope that soon body image and people’s appearance just becomes irrelevant. Keep trucking on and being a level headed inspiration. ❤️
Hey Alix, I’m currently trying to recover from a longgg eating disorder so i really understand what it’s like to look at myself. But I cannot fathom what it would feel like for someone else to tell me something about my body that is as personal as our younger self! I always think you are glowing and look beautiful and have such a calmness to you which radiates through your videos! Keep doing you for you!
I hope you get better. Struggling with food myself and hating for myself for not being able to enjoy it has shown taught me that being skinny is not all that it's chalked up to be and that as long as people are eating healthily and exercising, it doesn't matter what they look like. All the best to you.
Thank you for addressing these issues of appearance and body perception in so thoughtful and honest a manner. I think you are brave to address it, and It may help others to hear your ideas regarding these issues. I have always admired your work as a blogger because you focus on taking action to make yourself comfortable, to take good care of yourself and to express yourself through fashion and home decor choices (no matter what your weight may be at any given time). You use fashion and beauty as wellness tools and forms of self expression, the world needs to hear the voices of all women, no matter what their size! Women come in all shapes and sizes. Keep being yourself, you are a beautiful human being!
Thank you for talking about this, I really appreciate hearing about this from someone I look up to so much. I've struggled with getting these types of comments from people (praising weight loss/noticing weight gain) in person. I can't imagine being in such a public, vulnerable position and hearing it. Always love your content, thanks for sharing!
Really needed to hear that, Alix. I have gained almost a stone in a year and my body confidence is low. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be our ‘best’.The reality is I prefer myself thinner, and in the past that’s been after a breakup when I’ve been unhappy. We should all challenge this thought process. Health and happiness should be the goal. You look beautiful, and more importantly you seem really kind! 💕
I‘m so glad you are happy! And thank you so much for telling us that we are okay. I‘m currently having problems with accepting a new body shape and it‘s not easy. So thank you from the bottom of my hear, I really felt your words! And a tip for bras under racer tops: there are little plastic clips you can buy, which clip your bra straps together at the back. I find it much easier than buying more bras :)
Thank you for speaking up about people’s attitudes to weight and creating a supportive space, especially with everything going on that it is ok for our bodies to change and we can look and feel good in our own skin and not be dictated by anyone else’s standard of beauty. You are beautiful either way and so glad to hear that you are the happiest you’ve been. This shows and just keep shining. Also your last outfit, reading in the garden is stunning. Take good care XX
Thanks for a lovely honest chat! I can't imagine how difficult it would be to receive those comments from people. You are strong for being able to address it!
I don't know how to say this eloquently because I'm watching your latest vid while sipping red wine, but I'm so glad you addressed size. I'm 6 months post partum and haven't lost any baby weight, and I'm trying really hard to accept my new body. It really makes such a difference to see influencers like yourself advocating and normalising things for us average size girls. Thank you x
I never normally comment on videos but I just wanted to reach out and say I've discovered your content over the past 2 years and LOVED IT because you are a "normal sized" person. It's so nice to see style content on someone realistic, rather than on someone who is several sizes smaller than me. Thank you so much for addressing this in this video- I think it's really important.x
Alix, thank you. This was so honest and raw. It takes real courage. NO ONE has the right to comment on your appearance or weight. I was obese and now I’m small - and people feel they can comment constantly. It burns every time. Be happy. 🥰
THANK YOU for the beginning of this video. It is so important for us all to learn to never comment on someone's weight. Someone's weight has nothing to do with their health or happiness, and also it's no one else's business!
This vlog was fantastic. You are a pleasure to watch, as usual. Don't listen to sad people who try to bring you down. You are beautiful and I, for one, am very happy to see someone who also has a few covid kilo's but looks happy and stylish regardless. It is absolutely nobody's business and I'm so sorry you have to deal with that!
Thank you for always being so honest and real. If people would spend at least 1/2 of their time being critical, nasty, and focusing on not such important things and direct that to being just a nice , thoughtful being, the world be be a much better place. Obviously these types of people have way too much time on their hands.
I'm absolutely with you! I gained weight (over 10 kg) in the last year and I feel so much better than before. I feel more feminin and comfortable. I really appreciate your honest video! Thank you!
Whilst I'm listening to what you are saying, I cant stop myself from thinking, how dare these people say things like that! Small, big you are beautiful. I remember you being smaller 2 years ago but I also remember...or I beleive it was close to when you lost your mom and your previous relationship ended...I praise you for addressing this in a very classy way. Stay true to yourself and be happy ...virtual hug🤗❤😘
Thank you for speaking about the weight issue. It is so true; A few years ago I lost a decent amount of weight in a short time due to an illness and when I see the photos from that time I still see how unhappy and confused I was then. Even though my body looked „good“ as my frame was smaller, that was not a good experience at all.
Alix, you have always been one of my favorite youtubers because you seem to me to be a sensitive, creative, stylish, sincere girl, precious in every way and in all stages of your life. Thanks for the talk of this video, it is a perfect summary of the situation we are currently living in and how wrong some people can be. You will always have my support and love 🌺🌸
I can’t people have the cheek or right to say something like that to people. You’re beautiful Alix and you’ve been an incredible person to watch over the years and I was even lucky to be mentioned in one of your tags back in your early days of TH-cam . You’ve grown in the confidence and you can see how happy you are! Xx
Missed you and your hauls so much!! I have a similar body type to yours and I was super lazy to make any effort to dress myself but now I’m super inspired everyday and I’m always looking for clothes like yours!! 🤍🤍🤍
Thank you so much for the intro - I’ve also had some comments about my appearance online recently and it’s really affected me, so I appreciate you talking about this 🧡
I really appreciated you addressing the unsolicited comments you got. I know it's been been on my mind as well, especially during a pandemic where our bodies are doing so much for us
I think there is a lot of lies on the internet. recently I noticed that people on ig create their own artificial image of themselves. unfortunately. I think that there should be more truth on the Internet, maybe then people would not judge themselves like that
How incredibly inappropriate for people to send you such personal messages and make such (in my opinion) rude comments , what is wrong with people 🙄. Well done for talking so openly about it x
You mentioned that not much happened in your vlog, but it’s funny as they’re the only type of videos I want to watch. I’ve found I’m now watching TH-cam’s to chill out and they’re part of my winding down routine in the evenings and I have to say the last thing I want to watch is someone doing loads of fancy, fun stuff or spending a pile of money! I have resubscribed to your channel 😃
We all are on a new path, this new normal or waiting to find out how it all will work is testing us. I've been a plus sized gal for years, the moment I lose any weight, its unbelievable the positive comments I get. I'm happy where I'm at, regardless of how others see me, but that is a journey in itself. So nice to see you. Thx for sharing 💖🇨🇦
It's so strange how people see things differently than the others... To me this is the best look on you, happy little self! And those dresses, big and large and BEAUTIFUL, OMG I love it!
People today are quick to judge and think about one outer appearance and all the other things that are being displayed. I struggle with loosing weight way too easily that I have to be on track with eating enough to maintain or gain. I feel somewhat the same about comments being small or skinny. Why do our appearance always have to be a topic? Anyhow, you’re a beautiful woman and I’ve enjoyed watching your content over the last few years. It’s always so soothing and calm to watch you!
I never comment but was so hurt on your behalf when you talked about the comments you have received on your weight. I follow you in part for your style content even though we have very different body types, we all fluctuate so how it’s an issue to some I’ll never know. Your content is so thoughtful and well curated it’s so calming! Thank you for continuing to put yourself out there despite the negativity sent your way. A real example to those who would comment negatively 😘
Uuff such a shame that some people totally take advantage of influencers being this accessible / having friends and family feeling entitled to voice their opinion is one thing, but I can't imagine what it must feel like having a job which entails having to endure this constantly! You're amazing Alix ♥️
I think you look amazing, your style is on point as always. That linen shirt is 😍😍😍. Can relate to you - lost 10 kg due to stomach health issues and everyone praised me - but I was the most miserable I had been in my life. I wish people would choose to praise/compliment in ways that don't relate to the body - you are so brave/strong/interesting/cool/funny etc. Sending you lots of love 💕
This is so refreshing to hear. We have been so shamed during this lockdown. I felt bad each day for not following an online exercise programme. We were facing a pandemic yet what was in everyone's mind was "women are going to put on weight and this is not acceptable".
Yep. The photo where my ribs are visible due to being a dancer and choosing to give up sweets and chocolate for a summer has the most 'wow' comments and likes. Makes you feel like everyone thinks you don't look good when you then go back to your usual dress size. Not sure how you cope with comments like this on the regular ♥️♥️
I only just started following you recently but curiously I did it because I really liked your style and I liked that you look so happy sharing things with us. I wanted to learn and share this with you. I don’t know how you were, but who you are today is super cool. 👍
Always loved your vlogs and more so now.. keeping speaking your truth as the reason I and no doubt many others watch your content is because of your great sense of style... how you and your life changes are not for others to comment on... keep doing you... xx
Those commenters must not be seeing what I'm seeing because I feel like every time I see a picture of you on Instagram, my initial thought is almost always "man, she looks happy." Quickly followed up by, "what is she wearing and where can I buy one?" xx
I think your style, and look is a gorgeous inspiration! And people/trolls just like feeling superior. Keep doing you. You’re a peaceful breath of fresh air on TH-cam!
i love your videos so much! may i ask how you get the color palate on your videos? they’re always *perfect* and i have no idea how to achieve anything close to that. thank you, alex!
I’ve gained weight during lockdown but I have to address some health issues (I couldn’t work for a month). Luckily I’m feeling better but I’m ok with my body. I am eating healthier but I’m not crazy to lose weight. The most important thing is how you feel, to take care of yourself and work with your inner self to be a better person. How you look doesn’t tell you the person you are ❤️
Body fascism sucks. If you are interested the beauty myth is an excellent book 📚. Apart from the fact you are very beautiful which is less important than who you are. You present as a very gentle soul and I like what you do, I find your videos extremely relaxing and relatable. Thanks for addressing the inappropriate comments it’s important to speak out about that shit xx
I read Where the Crawdads Sing last month! I didn't think it lived up to the hype, but it was interesting and I don't regret the time I spent reading it.
I can’t believe you posted this video and I still had an argument with someone on your photo about how inappropriate it is to comment on your body. Thank you for being so vulnerable. I have not been doing to best so it’s good to know I’m not alone
I’ve been thinking of trying clothes from Arket. These all look beautiful and great for summer. I think you’ve convinced me. Also, I’ve always considered you one of the most beautiful women I’ve seen, no matter what size you are. That doesn’t even matter. You’re gorgeous inside but also, you are a natural beauty on the outside. If I looked half as stunning as you without makeup on I’d be pretty high on life. Lol
I can tell already watching this video is going to be bad for my bank account 😩 and personally I feel like you’ve never looked better, your happiness really shows ❤️ x
I got a lot of praise when I lost a lot of weight, people would stare, and I liked it, at first. I had body-dysmorphia, and anorexia, but people told me I looked great, so I kept going, being very unwell. It took over a year before I suddenly realised I was not okay, at all, and I hated the attention I got. I have put weight back on, but I am very happy, doing really well, and frankly couldn't care less if people think I am pretty or not. I think you are beautiful as you are, Alix. As long as you are very, and when you say you are, you look it, radiate it. If you are happy in yourself, that is what matters. :)
I really enjoy watching your videos and think you are absolutely beautiful and I love your style. Be true to yourself that is all that really matters xx
Absolutely adore your chancel because it is such a beautifully curated channel, your voice is so soothing and magical to me, and you just come across as so down to earth and relatable. Therefore it’s not surprising but still so lovely to hear you a. Be mindful and offer a trigger warning b. Open up about the unsolicited cruelness of others commenting on people’s bodies. Thank you sharing your experience. We’re all changing based on what we have to deal with- and it’s so important to love and value ourselves wherever we are as we try to take care of and nurture ourselves. I have been a. Personal trainer for 12 years and I 100% do not focus on asthetics- wellness is about having a healthy and loving relationship with yourself and your body. It comes from awareness and function- not size! We are so biased to think “smaller bodies = healthier/happier” and it’s not true! All bodies have value and are perfect. You can be fitter or more functional or happier in a body that our society is going to judge or comment on negatively. I myself dipped into a period years ago of boarder-line orthorexia - so I looked “fit- abs etc” on the outside more than now, but I’m so much happier and healthier when I’m softer and I love that. I’ve also shifted a bit though lock down, and tried to really lean in and love and embrace it. Thank you for being such a open and compassionate example. Sending all the love you - beautiful human inside and out. ❤️ I’m glad you moved in a way that made you feel good and pushed yourself today on your run. Congrats. It’s harder than ever in these times so you get double credit. ;)
Thank you so much for the sincere talk 🥺 to me you look the best you ever been, because the beauty comes inside out! We have really similar body shapes and you are an incredible style inspiration to me 💗
I absolutely feel that we should not comment on other’s weight or appearance. My mantra to the mean is “Hurt people hurt people.” It’s really so true. Thanks for sharing your love and light, Alix!

Claire Moskal love this
I agree so much with this!
omg yes with the tall comment! It's so annoying when people say that to me haha, thank you for being considerate x
I agree with this much! You have basically summarised what I have been trying to say for a while. My friends and I are on a “compliment for things other than physical appearance mission” and I am going to share this with them!

You are so eloquent and well spoken, so wise beyond your years. You are amazing, and a breath of a fresh air. Sending you love and light x

So appreciate you discussing this. We need more voices like yours!
All the best to you.
the wasp woman ❤️ the same to you! Thankyou for your kind words
Great message- thinner is not always happier or healthier. Always surprises me how thoughtless and insensitive some people are with their comments.
Thank you for the beginning part of this vlog - it was so refreshing and relatable and definitely something I needed to hear! :)
You look fantastic, happy and healthy. That hat is great and suits you, definitely a keeper. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and being so open x
That bucket hat is *super-chic* on you. Definitely you should keep!
Love the vlog & your realness. It’s wonderful to see you are sooo happy. The blazer is amazing & adore the white dress. Have a wonderful week xx
BEAUTIFUL video! The clothes you tried on looked amazing on you. Such perfect style.
Great to see you so happy and keeping positive during such a tough time! 🌞
Thank you so much for the intro - I’ve also had some comments about my appearance online recently and it’s really affected me, so I appreciate you talking about this 🧡
Glad you made your point - 100 percent agree. Please keep up the style type videos ... just love those.
I really appreciated you addressing the unsolicited comments you got. I know it's been been on my mind as well, especially during a pandemic where our bodies are doing so much for us
I am obsessed with your style! You look so gorgeous Alix! x
Love your layout for your bullet journal! Would love to see a flip through. Where is that cute pink top from? Looks incredible on you!
You're a beautiful person Alix. Thanks for addressing these hard to discuss topics
Thank you for your openness and honesty Alix! You are beautiful and so likeable 👸🏼😘
It's so strange how people see things differently than the others... To me this is the best look on you, happy little self! And those dresses, big and large and BEAUTIFUL, OMG I love it!
I love your style Alix - you have such good taste! 🙏
Thanks for sharing Alix! Please do an updated handbag collection 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 i looooooovvveee the one I have seen in your videos!!!
Alix where did you get your watch from? I love it
Uuff such a shame that some people totally take advantage of influencers being this accessible / having friends and family feeling entitled to voice their opinion is one thing, but I can't imagine what it must feel like having a job which entails having to endure this constantly! You're amazing Alix ♥️
You’ll love that book, I found it such an escapism from this weird time we’re living through xx
Loved all the haul items - loved your intro even more. So true. So important. Thank you for sharing
I love your natural hair colour and your natural waves! 😊 I wish my hair was like that. I am growing mine right now as well 👍🏻
I think you look amazing, your style is on point as always.
I love this book, enjoyed it so such I didn’t want the end to come. Nice vlog Alix really enjoyed x
Terrible to hear stupid people tell you you don't look pretty/healthy/happy. You are 100% gorgeous!!! 🦋✨
How you look doesn’t tell you the person you are ❤️
Same experience for me. Inside is what matters. Stay strong and stay true. Other peoples opinions are none of our business !
I was mesmerized by your home!
The drop waste reminds me of how the Queen Mother (rip) wore her dresses when she was younger. I think the look is darling.
I so agree with your words at the beginning xx
i love how your videos always inspires me!!
absolutely adore your channel, hope youre keeping well and happy!!
Gorgeous as always! 😍
We have really similar body shapes and you are an incredible style inspiration to me 💗
Love your style and vlogs. Thank you for sharing so honestly 💛
Those slides! ✨ Also love your content now more than ever
Thank you for the trigger warning ❤ Also, that linen shirt is serving some serious nonchalant artist atelier vibes ❤
