Thats why you test the egg first, even if you just bought it. My father taught me a trick to test if it is rotton or not. We grab a clear cup or large glass bowl, you fill it up with water of any temperature. After that, you put the egg in before you crack it obviously. If it rises to the top, its rotton. If it sinks, its good. Ive dodged a lot of rotten eggs with that trick lol

Put your collected eggs into a deep dish of water, if they float they’re spoiled, if they sink they’re fresh, and if they stand/slightly float on one side they are close to bad but you can still use them if you need them at the time.

I went to school with a girl who's family had an eight years rotten egg in the fridge at home for some reason. It was a source of great pride for them for reasons lost on me. Don't ask me why, I think about it often and it's been fifteen years.
She brought this long dead potential future chicken to school for show and tell wrapped in nothing more than a thin paper towel. Our eccentric teacher was actually happy about it and asked her to bring the egg to as she viewed it through the lens of "rare learning opportunity". Learn we did...
I will never forget the sight bestowed upon me when her hands lost grip of the prized egg and held fast no more. It was black, it was green, it was yellow. Worse yet, the class room floor was covered in light gray carpet. It opened up and splayed out as if to display itself like an art exhibit.
Then came the smell. I won't get into it, but many of the children added the lunch from the hours earlier to the new art exhibit.
Class let out early that day...

I live on a farm, we have these birds called guinea fowl here. So they lay their eggs everywhere and anywhere. We often go out and try to find eggs by just watching the birds as it's the easiest way to find the fresh ones. Anyways my little sister comes in with like 7 eggs, and my mom say that they are spoiled and to throw them in the woods. Instead of that, she yeets them as hard as she possibly can, and disgusting egg goes everywhere. The house stank for like an hour. My little sister got a very long talking to -

Thats why you ALWAYS float test. I live on a decently sized farm and we have to float teat EVERY egg before selling. We do farmer's markets and that's our big deal. We can lose so much if the health department finds out a customer gets a rotten egg, anything rotten or spoiled. What we've always done is taken the rotten eggs while washing and going out onto the porch and absolutely chucking those eggs into the cow pen 😂
Moral of the story, FLOAT TEST YOUR EGGS!!
If you don't know how, its very simple. If they egg is new/good, it'll sink. If it's a few weeks old, but still good, only the top or bottom will stand up. If it's rotten, the whole egg will float. Hope this helps!

There are two things I do to prevent rotten eggs ruining a meal. One, crack them in a coffee mug one at a time to check them over before adding to whatever it is I’m making. The other is to do the float test, which is really helpful if your eggs are older and your not sure. If your eggs float in a large bowl of cool water, they’re bad. If they stay snuck on the bottom, they’re good.
