The scariest part on the fact why most (younger) people prefer gta5 over gta 4 is because gta.5 contains more unrealistical-oriented freedom or Dream world which contains stuff like those rocket cars etc.While gta4 is more realistic not only about physics or mechanics but the realism on a situation, This pretty much says why people prefer an escape from reality, maybe because of gfx and hypes?

Running would make you careless, making you feel free, if you repeat your mistakes then you are back where you were. Those mistakes became consequences for Niko. Yes GTA 5 has a awesome story, it was mostly just dramatic Hollywood story of how three dudes who took against rich men and the federal government.(which was badass). Thats why i always viewed as a underrated game.
i kinda agree, I like them both, they're pretty flawed on their own ways but good nonetheless. I think imo GTA games never were intended to have "Perfect" stories, more like "good" stories that heavily depended on funny/likeable characters, which alot of their games VC, SA IV and V have quite excelled on. GTA IV went on a very radical approach in terms of narrative considering most fans have been quite used to the over-the-top and goofy missions and writing. i think thats many considering GTA IV as a flop, as it was less succesful than San Andreas. It falls short on alot of stuff other than the story, after all, its not a book. Pretty terribly optimizied and just not much left to do after you finish the story, It almost felt like GTA 3 when it came to spending money on things other than guns.
