An international student on an F1 visa is allowed to invest in the stock market. Thus, F1 students can invest in stocks and day trade. There is no specific law against this, and it’s considered passive income. However, it would help if you were careful as the immigration department could perceive it differently based on your tax filings. In other words, immigrants could think that you were self-employed and worked without permission. Trading stocks cannot appear to be a business or a job.
