    Actually, the UDM SE already had all of this several months ago. What was amazing about this release is that the UDM Pro and the UDM SE are both now on the exact same firmware. Going forward Ubiquiti programmers will only have to write code for one operating system, instead of the previous two that they were supporting.

      It was insane to me that they had complexity different dev channels and OS's for each device! It seems like a nightmare to support and further debug

      @Polkster13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SpaceRexWill Yeah, that is why they changed it. It also turned into a nightmare trying to do it with containers and having to deal with all of the dependencies that were being dictated by other software. Now that everything is on Bare Metal, they have total control over all of the operating system and they will be able to put out updates and new features at a faster pace.

      Udm base as well

    If you are on a UDM Pro and you are still on a 1.x release; you first have to upgrade to 2.4, then 2.5, then you can go to the 3.0 version. This is because up to and through 2.4 releases, the UDM Pro was running on Containers. The 2.4 to 2.5 upgrade converts the OS to Bare Metal. Since the 3.0 is already on Bare Metal for the UDM SE, the UDM Pro has to go through this upgrade first before they can get all of the cool stuff that is offered in the 3.0 releases.

    just updated my UDM Pro, so far ad blocking is working great

    The ad blocking sound really interesting to have it all in one box, but your concerns are definitely valid. Can’t wait for you coverage!

    Can the VPN allow my laptop to access my network drives in Windows Explorer as if i were on the home LAN? i have some synology shared drives as well as a share from a plex server pc which id love to access when away from home easily.

    Does this updae work with the regular UDM and if so does it make sense running this update and a Pihole as well?

    Thanks a lot for your video. My only complaint about this update, even for Unifi (and the rest of Ubiquiti devices) is the poor implementation of IPv6. There is almost no way to set up IPv6 options from the GUI.

    That's odd, I see all three WireGuard, OpenVPN and L2TP as options when I go to the VPN Server creation screen. I am running Network 7.4.150 on my UDM Pro though so maybe that's why?

    another great video, I do have a a question, what the best method of having a remote NAS connect back to my home network to be able to perform remote to home backups via RSYNC using Hyper Backup?

      ideally you have a site to site VPN, that is the stickiest way to do it!

    I don't see am option to check for updates after modifying the channel. Seems it must wait for the auto update schedule to lapse.

      So for me I just hit the new channel, and it automatically found it

    Future Video possibility....
    UDM 3.0.20 WireGuard VPN with a Raspberry Pi client for travel. The Pi (REMOTE/Client) would connect to the UDM Pro WireGuard VPN, the Pi would then act as an AP for secure wireless connections and an Ethernet connection for a hard wire connection also.

    Hi, I’d lik e to know, if Unufi finally can do vpn via DYNDNS or are you still stacked to static IPs?

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you can use DNS addresses with OpenVPN site to Site VPNs, but not IP Sec site to site VPN

    I love unifi, but the instability of the UDM is a nightmare. Will the unifi management interface load? Will it require a 40 minute restart to get back into it? Will the upgrade fail and brick the device? Will you have to reprogram from scratch because the backup restored but nothing works correctly? Adding more software, but using severely underpowered hardware to handle those features does nothing but exacerbate those issues. I have moved away from UDMs and started using OPNsense for the firewall. So much more stable than unifi. We still use unifi switches and APs though.

      I see so many people leave comments like this, and its really interesting to me. I've had my UDMP about 3 years and not a single issue. I will say that not a ton of users, but never a stability issue.

    • @theterriblegamer1228
      @theterriblegamer1228 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mychaelhouck2404 I have had over 13 deployed. The issue seems to happen more often on systems that support upwards of 50 daily endpoints. Disabling the security features like IDS/IPS, GeoBlocking, and Data analytics helps a bit. I suspect the issue is with the container that runs unifi. It needs more than the 4GB of Ram that the UDM has. Unfortunately, unlike the USG 3 pro, the RAM is not upgradable. The CPU is also an ARM derivative I think and is designed to cut cost and not provide any serious power.

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Up until 1-2 years ago I felt the exact same way. But it seems like recently UniFi has done a much better job of really working bugs out in the beta versions and having simnifically more stable releases! I have not had to downgrade a unifi device to old firmware in at least a year!

    • @theterriblegamer1228
      @theterriblegamer1228 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpaceRexWill They are better than they used to be. However, my heavier deployments still suffer from slowness and unresponsiveness. sometimes you just have to know when to upgrade to better hardware.
