I just watched this last Saturday and I think Ukkomon is not lying. He's too square, too innocent to 'lie'. He was just following his programming and "wish" that Rui made. Beyond all that, I think it all comes down to this underlying message about parenting that was interwoven throughout the movie. Digimon, especially Ukkomon being made as an analogy of parenting types. This realization struck when Davis said to Rui: "you're relying too much on Ukkomon!". Rui's mother was abusive, this is the worst kind of parents. But then there's also Ukkomon who's spoiling Rui too much, the type of "Permissive parenting" that would also bring ruin. What Ukkomon and Rui did and said to each other were eerily similar to the things spoiled children and permissive parents would say. Nowadays, parents would rely too much on gadgets as well to distract or entertain their children. I believe this is one of the message being brought up as well. Whereas, Davis, Ken, and friends have this healthy relationships with their Digimon, representing a healthy parent-child relationship. Last but not least, I think this is a movie clearly made for us, tamers / digidestined who have watched Digimon since we were kids.
Something about the adventure lore stated by Hiroyuki Kakudo, the director of the first two season is that the number of Chosen children doubles every years, and now they even mentioned it in this movie through ken's dialogue, number that tarted with Lui 1996:1 (Lui meets ukkomon) 1997: 2 1998: 4 (these kids with the ones from 1997 could have been first group, remember that time passes way faster in the digital world ultil the end of Adventure. it makes sense their story is a legend in the digital world, since thousands of years passed for the digimon, this was also the year in which the 4 Holy beasts were created and were later sealed by the dark masters) 1999: 8 (the adventure cast) But it's still important to mention that despite the adventure cast becoming proper "chosen" in 1999, they were chosen by Homeostasis during 1995 to defeat the dark masters who disturbed the balance of the world, thing that had nothing to do with Lui and his wish un 1996, they were going to get chosen regardless of his wish, and the 02 cast were chosen by non other than qinglongmon to defeat the Digimon Kaiser with the armor evolution in 2002, due to the rule of the number doubling every year the 02 cast being chosen in 1999 is impossible, I assume the moment a kid becomes a proper chosen child is when they get their digimon partner and a Digivice. Like hikari and taichi who didn't become chosen in 1995, the 02 cast didn't become chosen children during the vamdemon attack or our war game, but those instances may have influenced why they became one in 2002.
agreed, the digimon team even did an interview with the new digimon adventure 02 cast going over the timeline and even showing that the new movie doesnt really contradict things

I liked the movie...once I turned off my brain. It hit me straight in the nostalgia and gave me a fun ride but it was also Hurricane Touchdown 4 and solved a problem that was invented for the purpose of the movie It's like the current people running Adventure don't believe there's anything more to do in the setting so they're trying to break the setting enough to justify more content. But there's still plenty of interesting conflict FOR ADULTS, like how the world reacts to significant numbers of children and young adults getting access to talking, walking, hungry WMDs

For me ukkomon only accelerated the process of the original children who went before the protagonists of 01. They became chosen because they served others because ukkomon forced the system. We are not given any answers as to who the entity is that is connected to ukkomon
Totally agree, even my 10 year old son was like, "oh so the new guy will be the reason why parrotmons egg appears." Then the movie did nothing with that at all
So after watching the movie, I didn't get the impression that they created the partnership. I got the impression that Ukkomon. created the Digivices So technically, the movie can still say that they were the first partnership, even though Digimon Adventure O. V. A happened before. because technically they were not partnered because they didn't have a Digivices. They were the first to encounter a digimon. so on movie Part. isn't lying Per say It's just stretching the truth of partnerships. As for the original chosen, I think the franchise is trying its best to pretend like that that never happened, which is kind of annoying for long term fans. We would like to have that explored more into, but after what Tri did, I think they're afraid to touch it. I think if the movie would have said they were the first proper partnership, even though technically that would be a stretch as well, I would at least say OK, I'll give you that because at the end of the movie, what went away was the digivices, not digimon human partnership. The movie even strongly implies. that evolution is possible without the digivices.
The conclusion my friend and I came to is that Lui & Ukkomon are the first chosen in the sense of having a digivice that connects them? I'm not 100% sure, but I don't know if the chosen before the two of them meet have digivices. Ukkomon's statement does seem exclusionary, but it's perhaps like you said, he doesn't know.
they are not ignoring the original choosen. it is shown that taichi is there before he got the first digimon partner ever exist after this event, then the story of tacihi and hikari and koromon happened, after that maki and friends happened, then after that, taichi and friend's story happened

I saw the dub with my partner and despite them having little knowledge of digimon lore they still managed to follow it enough to really enjoy it which says a lot. I did notice some of the retcons but honestly if your videos hadn't mentioned the dates and years not matching up I probably wouldn't have noticed. As my partner and I usually say "headcanons solve everything" so for us *snap* Lui is now older to put his meeting with Ukkomon before the first movie...unless of course that mistake was intentional and we just rub that headcannon out. I also agree Digimon has been putting out some of its better stories with the more mature subjects and events.
Tbh I'm surprised we never had an appearance of Dinobeemon which would of been nice. Considering it's Paildramon's other form, a more beastly version of the jogress.

They are nor "ruining the franchise". The original cannon was always vague and under explained. They never told us who the first digidestined were all we got were some vague silhouettes.
Maybe not digidestined to save the world but from digimon being unknown creatures appearing in the world to then being sudo pets/friends coexisting and befriending their own human bc of Ukkomon. If this were a pre-world Pokémon. Did only chosen/destined get their own Digimon/Pokémon? Or did Celebii or Jirachii having abilities and design loosely similar, affect those with similar desires or life situations of being in need of a friend then be granted their own digimon? Like something special then being made generalized/normalized due to said source? Otherwise the age and time make no sense and it could merely be a message deep enough about parenting and friendship for the fans that are probably parents by now. Not as deep as Kizuna but still using a means of media and entertainment to send important messages. You’d assume most who watched these tamers as children must have families of their own by now. They either grew up like Lui or it could be an eye opener for those blind to “what’s going on” with a person that they may not speak upon or issues they may have to this day because of pasts relative to Lui’s that they could never resolve. Deep stuff but not so much for fan service other than cameos and digi evolutions

I agree that it's probably the best of the recent Adventure films. The few major issues I had were the pacing, the exposition dumps, and how they handled Lui's mum. I feel like it would've been better had all the 02 kids gone back in time at various points & seen everything through Lui & Ukkomon's eyes. As for Lui's mum, it's complicated... Abuse is a hard topic to handle with tact, so I have seen people justifiably complain about how she basically does a one-eighty at the end of the film. Maybe they should've shown her loving Lui more and showing that the abuse Lui suffered was because of stress and depression. That obviously doesn't absolve or justify her actions, but perhaps it would've made her more sympathetic & her turn less drastic. Perhaps hinting that she may have recognised Lui as an adult could've helped as well.
Terrible movie, It might aswell not being a digimon movie at all. Every aspect of digimon is shohorned on this manipulative an generic movie about a random edgy guy who had a sad and edgy past.

I agree with the messed up timeline…the adventure lore is so messed up was hoping that the 2020 reboot would've fixed these issues
