I've always shot air rifles but last October I joined a club that shoots .22lr. I now shoot in competition's at 25yards gallery(sporter) indoors. Last night for the first time I shot 50 yards gallery, outdoors in the wind. I hit an 89 on my first attempt. Quite pleased.

Absolutely!! Air rifles require the basics to be spot on - follow through, trigger control, breathing - they are precise. Get it right here and it defo pays off!

Have a go at archery in all of its forms especially the English longbow, very nostalgic!

Well, with the Cadets it started on BSA Meteor’s .22, until you had proved your competence, at which point you moved on to .22 Long Rifle and then on to the No4 Rifle .303 (and then whatever the Army allowed you to use).
Shooting has changed a lot since I started in 1980. We only used a sandbag for support (and you rested your hand on that). You then mastered using the web sling as a brace, so that your stability was increased.....there was none of this resting the weapon on a bag, or left hand folded under your chin, etc, in fact, when shooting the SLR L1A1, you shot it standing, kneeling and prone and the sights were adjusted over the three stances, until you had found the base zero point....
I’d say that my full bore shooting, led to me shooting an Air Rifle properly.....in fact, shooting .177 at 80yards is a similar equivalent to shooting 7.62 at 800m

I was under the impression dry firing a rim fire (17 HMR) was a big no no?

Very interesting and well presented. Would like you to do pistols, preferably modern weapons. Shoot safe.

They do black powder pistol. Flintlock and percussion and cylinder loaded pistols. Get to Suffolk and I’d be happy to take you out with anything from .22-.357- black powder rifles and pistols at the local club or even to shoot more .308

Why do some people shoot with both eyes open and some (like your good self) close one?
I have to shoot between heartbeats.

Only thing is with moving from air to powder burners is you'll find the accuracy disappointing.
Need to spend some money to get a good rifle , I only have one rifle I can shoot one hole groups with , all the others are perfectly good for what they do though.
Don't need a rifle that does one hole groups to shoot deer. Most decent rifles nowadays will shoot sub inch groups though.

Once you shoot an air rifle, why would you shoot anything else.
