No joke, as an autistic person, having the "why" of it explained is SUCH a good way to get me engaged in something. This video is a 10/10, gonna start practicing again
Whenever I hear that sweeeeet “1 + 2 e” with the hat chick in the e of 2 and the displaced backbeat, I ALWAYS think of you. I often call that “the Johnston” because it’s all over your playing! And it’s super freaking cool. Another great video, Mike!
My challenge this month actually ! After 30 years of drumming I never played that kind of groove and I'm ok at 100bpm, but I'm going a little bit slower to make it groove for now ;) Thanks Mike !
Ghost notes DEFINITELY give it some umf! That wanna make you move your head and body. Unfortunately I’m not there yet with ghost note, just play hard and on beat, not so tasty 🤦🏻♂️ Thanks for the tutorial, I freaking need it! Your kit sounds soooo sweet btw 🤙🏽
I think the style of music dictates a lot of that as well. If I'm playing heavy rock then my drumming tends to be louad and fairly monotone because that's what matches up best with the sound of what I'm playing. However, if I'm playing some funk or modern fusion then the texture is a massive part of the sound. Keep chipping away my friend, one note at a time. Also, thanks for the kind words about my sound :)
Mike what a cool way to introduce the groove by building up into it. Feels like you’re getting to work on your craft while teaching at the same time, so cool!
Hi Mike, excellent as usual! Another great groove to work on. Could you tell me how you recover the video partition with the cursor following the partition? When I go to the app I can only load the midi or png file. Thank you for your response and continue to enjoy us!
Killer groove and video Mike! Definitely a fun one, but not in my wheel house... yet! Gonna see what I can do with this! I love that Analogy of, can't detail a car you don't own. Guess it's time to make some payments on that puppy 😅
you have talked about drums (duh!), tea, your dog... but i have never talked about you tatoos (which i really like the subtlety). So yeah (also amazing groove as always)
Mike. I really hate you (in the fun good way) right now. I love the feel of this groove but holy frozen Canadian piss is this a tricky one. I've not struggled with a groove this bad in a long while. I will get it, but the sticks have been flying across room intentionally the past couple days. 😂. Thank you for the challenge. Cheers from Canada.
Update... 3 days of obsessing with this, finally got my over zealous retarded step brother of a left leg doing only the 2 jobs assigned, everything came together. Lotta spit n polish needed yet, but yeah man... Feels damn good. Cheers.
I was supposed to get shit done tonight. I think we can all kiss that goodbye, thank you so much Mike. To the batcave!

So much love for this comment bro u don’t even understand!!!
I love everything about your channel. the look, the pace, the musicianship, the material... And I don't play drums.
You're a fantastic teacher. Thabk you for your incredible content

Brother... I can't even express to you just how much that means to me! Thanks for making my morning :)
That was quite the saucy little groove Mike! i look forward to becoming more comfortable with it over time.
This is my favorite kind of funk groove, with a backbeat missing, leaving plenty of space for those ghost notes to fry and sizzle.
Oh, I'm gonna "learn it down" alright!! Thanks so much for another great lesson, Mike!! I'm really looking forward to chipping away at this...🥁🥁🥁
thanks Mike, I love these types of videos about drums..
I'm a 'retired' drummer and current music producer and I love the ideas that your material gives me for making my songs more interesting. Many thanks!
The color in the thumbnail caught me off guard haha. Epic lesson, Mike!
Happy New Year Mike it's almost been 20 years now since you've been online doing clinics and stuff man time flies
素晴らしいドラムレッスンです。大変参考になりました😊ありがとうございました👍

Great Lesson!
Also, you remind me of the difference between Grooves and Beats
Thanks, Mike!
Tasty stuff, Mr. J! Thank you!
Normally I don't believe in "should"s or "should not"s. This is a definite exception. 👍🏻👍🏻Working on this groove now.
Do you know how difficult this is Mike! Hu hu ! Anyway we need grooves like this…🙏
Ghost notes DEFINITELY give it some umf! That wanna make you move your head and body.

Love this lesson! This will probably take me months to "learn it down" :) Also never knew the main groove is between bass drum and snare, good stuff!

Great great groove!! Time to go work om my ghost notes!
Finally after few hours Learned it down with dynamics :) now need to speed it to get groovy ... probably will take weeks but worth it
That kit sounds absolutely SICK!!! 🥁😲 (Love the china on 1)
nice!!
Killer groove and video Mike! Definitely a fun one, but not in my wheel house... yet! Gonna see what I can do with this!

Love the china addition. Thanks Mike!
Going to give this one a spin for sure! Cool stuff, bro!! :)

"Monotone this groove isn't gonna sound very cool" Proceeds to play groove without accents that sounds very cool 😆
Great start to 2024, Mike!
As always - great, great vid! Also.... Black Bay Chrono?
Wow, great eye Paddric. Yes sir. Got both the black face and white face this past month. Absolutely love them both!
@@mikeslessons yesssssssss! I'm saving up for a Christopher Ward. Someday I'll have a Tudor!
so sick
Well, I know what the rest of my day/week looks like. Oof, better get to it!
Beautiful ❤
Been subscribed damn near 15 years that's crazy
Well first off… THANK YOU. Secondly, I hope I’ve brought some value (and fun) to your feed over the years :)
@@mikeslessons oh yes absolutely! I remember having my mind blown by your double bass with one foot back when I first picked up drumming. God bless
Killer!
That's a spicy china. Sounds so good 😁 I'm a sucker for Chinas lol
Them n splashes for me anyway ..
Great stuff! Has a Carter Beauford feel to it. Chew a piece of gum while playing it and it'll be dead on.
When do we talk about the new china? I'm in the market for one.
🙌🙌🙌
Your drums sound illegally good, jee
Then I will move my kit to a non-extradition country so I don't go to drum jail, LOL. Thanks for the kind words :)
😳
What China is that?
What china is that?
so what about the China ?
Not only is there a china, there’s a ton of other mics now! What is happening?!
A China!!!!!

I always watch you with good headphones.
First of all, I listen. I would like to achieve exactly your sound.
Thank you for the lesson🤝.
A china on the blue kit????? Who are you????
LOL! Ever evolving, always shuck'n and jive'n. Next time I'll wear a purple sweatshirt and blow everyone's minds, LOL
This. is. NASTY!!!

Honestly the most inspiring part of this is seeing you groove this at 50. 🤌🤌
