I gave John Cowan that Gumby button! Seriously. I think I was 20 years old and Gumby was a thing back then. I told him to wear it so I could see it on TV! He did!
About 20 years ago I gave John a copy of Charlie Sextons cd Under the Wishing Tree for his birthday. I followed the John Cowan band around for about 6 years. I got to know him a bit…nice guy 👍😎
I went to see their Kyoto performance. It was held at a small concert hall called Kyoto Education and Culture Center. Actually, I also played a banjo in a bluegrass band at my university, so I used to play here before. Their performance was overwhelmingly powerful, and I was so tired that I couldn't stand up after the performance as I was sitting in the 3rd central seat. It was such a great experience ever.

OMG, big fan ... IIRC back in 87 when I first moved to Toronto Ontario from Nova Scotia there was a music festival about an hour away in Berry(sp?) ... These guys were on the schedule. There was no question in my mind that I would find a way to Berry .. and I did. These guys, and the various Grisman, Rice, Skaggs, O'Connor incarnations of 'Dawg' music ... the heydays of acoustic melodic jazz music!
I was in Barrie in 87... John Hartford told everyone after his show to sit down andwait and listen to NGR. KILLER show. The soundcheck featured Molly and Tenbrooks. It was Mariposa Folk Fest.
That performance is so great, I had to rewind it to replay some of the tracks. That's the type of music I would like on CD or tape so I could listen to it when I'm driving or hiking.

There was a Live in Japan CD. If it wasn't from this performance it is almost identical. It includes an acapella encore of "Walking in Jerusalem".
Awesome to see the band getting goofy and having fun around 25:00. Totally an inspiration to a lot of musicians out there today.
アップして下さり感謝します😂
