A guitar is regularly tuned (low to high) E A D G B E and in terms of music is played in the treble clef but there is no term or name given to a normal 6 string guitar. it's just called a standard tuned guitar. The Baritone is just tuned a fourth lower (B E A D F# B) so that the same thing on a regular 6 string can be transposed and played sounding a fourth lower.
Taylor Guitars The 8 String Baritone has a really good splash of 12 String Baritone Shimmer. I took your 9 String, strung it up with 9 out of the 12 Strings from a set of Baritone 12 String Guitar Strings in B Standard Tuning and created the 1'st Prototype Taylor 9 String Baritone that sounds like a 12 String Baritone. For a Prototype Taylor Baritone-12, I restrung one of your 12 String Guitars with Baritone 12 String Guitar Strings. Why a Baritone 12 String, having that 12 String Jangle in the Baritone Register really would produce a new sound.
I have had a chance to play this guitar at Rainbow Guitars in Tucson, AZ (the 8-string Baritone model). I know that Taylor is partnered with Elixir strings and I use/prefer these strings for my playing. My only concern is the availability of the strings for these guitars. All in all, wonderful job, Taylor Guitars!
@hamiltonrrw although some guitar manufacturers don't suggest using higher gauge strings on a standard acoustic due to the higher tension potentially breaking the neck joint.
@hifijohn obviously you cant tune a normal guitar low enough for standard tuning (down an octave), your strings are gonna be extremely loose, thats why they make longer necks
@krant28 I have the taylor baritone 6 string. assuming the stock setup, you can go down to A standard but that's probably the limit. It gets pretty muddy and tension is too loose any lower. Any recommendations on customizing the setup/changing strings to achieve a lower tuning?
is the other guitar a baritone 6string? is is hard to play with a standard guitar tuned E-e? (just thingking of the range between the baritone & standard)
first note is B, notice how the standard tuned guitar is playing a power cord style B that would be played on a normal tuned 6 string and since the baritone is tuned to B standard he is playing a normal E minor "shape"
The baritone guitar's neck is almost 2 inches longer. with a longer scale you don't have to downtune until the string tension gets too wobbly and you don't have to use thicker strings that you aren't used to. So with a longer scale you get almost similar tension and almost similar string thickness, but deeper tone so you don't have to get used to the other guitar everytime you switch, because they play pretty much the same.
I did not like these clips where one moment the speaker talks to you into the camera and then the next moment he is talking to some else and you are looking at a side angle... The Guitars however, sound superb.
3 and a half octaves lower ? That's like tuning the strings from regular to 42 frets lower, and from EADGBE (regular guitar) to BEADF#B (baritone tuning) it is only 5 frets lower.
Less talking more playing! Experienced guitarists can hear the difference for gosh sake! We don't need to be told what we're hearing. If you can't hear it for your self and you need to listen to some guy yapping on about it then you shouldn't be buying the damn guitar. >.>
Please STOP with the overdone 'cut away to a camera that the speaker isn't looking at.' Seriously, hire a professional camera crew next time instead of a film student.
Skip to 1:00 to hear the playing. I'll admit it, I kind of want one of these. I love baritones.
Received my 8-string on Monday...using it this weekend to gig with...thanks for the sonic refreshment and depth...

Just bought my 8-string today! Love it!!!

Taylor Guitars Let's build up to a 9 String Baritone, & finally my favorite instrument with a Low 12 String Jangle, the 12 String Baritone Guitar.
The Baritone 12 String will have a High F# to broaden the range & also an Octave4Plus .006 High B
Holy crap that first pairing sounded awesome together.
@y2zgt a standard guitar is called "prime". It's just standard. In the guitar family there are many different sizes, length... can't qualify them all
for the first part, on the regular acoustics its Bm, D, Em, but hammer on the whole chord twice, then G.
The 8 String Baritone has a good amount of 12 String Jangle in the Bari-Register.
that 8 string sounds beautiful.
the baritone and standard guitars together was like a reverse 12 string
@giosiarosheger the orange guitar is a GS7 and the one on the left is a GS8. Now the GS8 switches to a Baritone at 1:08
Thanks - more playing next time please... but your remarks are appreciated.
I want that GT-6 really bad now. Awesome video and demonstration.
sounds meaty... love it

Now you can play Dave Matthews music such as "Stay or Leave"

kind of cool sounding the 8 string
nice baritone
@azzurres1 the baritone is 5 half steps down than the regular guitar
@GaryMonti No, the non cutaway was a standard tuned guitar.
Amazing Sound! 👍🏼👍🏼, has a Nice Fat Tone.
@hifijohn I think people realize that, genius. This is about getting it to sound great.
Amazing!
Exstingcuised demo - thanks
So does that mean you have to buy special guage strings?
How can I get a free baritone guitar?
2:34 "A well defined bottom end" Awww yeahhh ;)
I wish I had 1500 to spend on the new baritone.
1500? Try $3000
ugh wish hed play that without the standard
@hifijohn I'm sure you could if you use heavier strings.
@krant28 I tried the baritone 8 strings tuned A to A. It still sounds amazing
how can i get a job like this???do i have to be born to a taylor co. owning dad??
I use a Paul reed smith barritone the best
how many half tone steps exactly is it down?

Nice! Can you send me or lend me one to do some songs on my gospel album?
is the other guitar a baritone 6string? is is hard to play with a standard guitar tuned E-e? (just thingking of the range between the baritone & standard)
.16-.70 (Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 Bronze Baritone Strings)
where do you find baritone guitar sheet music????
@krant28
Should be possible to tune A to A.
Are you playing the same chord shapes when you play the baritones?
Yes. The only difference I think is the tone.
No, different chords shapes. The baritone is tuned B to B not E to E.
so an E chord shape on the Baritone is technically a B chord.
TheKiteMachineBand you do play the same chord shapes on the E to E but not the B to B
Fist bump fail at 1:12 hahaaha
What chords are they playing. I def notice a different tone
first note is B, notice how the standard tuned guitar is playing a power cord style B that would be played on a normal tuned 6 string and since the baritone is tuned to B standard he is playing a normal E minor "shape"
Why can’t you just tune down a regular 6 string to “b” idk. Am I missing something here?

@@valpodesideromontoya2097 Well you could use thicker strings instead.
So what size strings did you use?
its very kind of baritone except the horn!!!! D: (i play the baritone horn)
@hifijohn its about the scale lentgh hurr
tabs?
What would be the typical string gauge for this guitar?
1.6 to the factor of 3
Beautiful guitar though btw.
I did not like these clips where one moment the speaker talks to you into the camera and then the next moment he is talking to some else and you are looking at a side angle...
The Guitars however, sound superb.
Are you kidding me? A 3:09 video, with 19 seconds of actual playing at the end.
Does anyone know the chords they play?
Bm D Em G
for the love of god, less talky more strummy
@CFMD28 yeh i expect they will hope right on that >.>
@perrydawg2010 yeh for real
3 and a half octaves lower ?

MrFranciscoFidalgo : 3 and a half octave, not 3 and a half octaves, he meant 3,5/8 octave, not 3,5 octaves ;)
What a salesman
Nice--but I agree with the comment below--talk less, play more. The guitar will sell itself---or not.
Too bad they've kinda alienated the market somewhat with the $3k. But then again, I'm just a cheapo who wants as low a sound.
;)
its not that big of a deal just take a normal guitar and tune all the strings down guitarist have been doing that for decades!!
Playing starts at 0:59!
THUMBS UP SO EVERYBODY CAN SEE! ;)
playing like andy mckee -Baritone Guitars. :D *cost to much*
Too much BlaBla.
The guy loves to hear himself talking ;)
Gitarrist Berlin Andreas Gäbel On a 3 minute video with before and after sound from Taylor guitars? No I think they did just fine
Yes the have to talk so much `cause if the play the whole time campfire guitar everybody quit straightaway ... ;-)
Tunin imprecise. Ouch.
Less talking more playing! Experienced guitarists can hear the difference for gosh sake! We don't need to be told what we're hearing. If you can't hear it for your self and you need to listen to some guy yapping on about it then you shouldn't be buying the damn guitar. >.>
R U GONNA PLAY THE F DAMN THING? DAMN....
Yap, yap, yap.... Play the guitar - that's what sells it.
Go to 0:57 to skip bla bla bla.
Man that's a hell of a crappy demo ! 15 secs of actual playing on the baritone ... Jeeeezzz !!!
