      @@zukacs Abrams will basically run on any moderately combustible liquid. People complain about its fuel use, but on the other hand so long as you have a liquid that'll burn you can run it. That's the beauty of using a jet-turbine for a tank engine.

    • @DanielsPolitics1
      @DanielsPolitics1 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      @@zukacs Whisky is usually about 40% ABV, even barrel strength probably not over 70%. I think most internal combustion engines can’t cope with 30% water. The turbine on an Abrams might tolerate it, I’m not sure. The tiny fraction that isn’t alcohol or water is probably not that relevant, although if it doesn’t burn cleanly it may foul up the engine.

    • @koc988
      @koc988 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@DanielsPolitics1 If you've run out of fuel and aren't where you should be to get some more breaking your engine isn't your biggest issue imo. Put some whisky in there are try to make it to your rendezvous point. If you use the whisky you're just taking hours off the clock till your next engine overhaul. If you don't use something, you don't have a tank anymore.
      Also I should ask, do you have a source for anything you just said?

    Excellent video. As a Marine NCO, in Vietnam, we traded, borrowed and "reassigned" gear on a continuous bases. Best deal my platoon made was an NVA flag (that we bought from a local) and traded it to a Navy SeaBee for a Skill saw we needed for building a command bunker at base camp. As for where they got, don't ask, don't tell. As a retread in the Army, 11D40 scout, we only had the M114s. The TOWs were just being introduced on the border in West Germany. Our rule was, see tank, report and scoot. The 20 mm we had would only ruin their paint jobs. Thanks for protecting our country.

    From Wikipedia Battle of 73 Easting " McMaster sent a scout platoon of two Bradleys north to regain contact with Troop G. In doing that the scout platoon encountered another Iraqi tank position of thirteen T-72s. The lightly armored Bradleys, each equipped only with a 25-mm cannon and two TOW missiles, are intended for reconnaissance, not direct engagement with armored tanks. Despite a misfire, and having to reload the launchers in the face of the enemy, the two Bradleys destroyed 5 tanks before help arrived"

      @@92Psyco No, the Iraqis used rusty crap in comparison and had half their country and 90% of their army destroyed by carpet bombing, before such scenarios, kid. What by the way also killed tenthousands civilians, more civilians than soldiers.
      We talk about over 100.000 sorties and around 90.000 tons of bombs dropped on the country, obliterating military and civil infrastructure before even one soldier set foot on the ground in Iraq..
      This was followed by brutal artillery bombardement of just as many attacks.
      This was followed by a gigantic role of combined armed forces, including A-10, which alone destroyed around 900 tanks, and over 2000 armored vehicles and ~1200 artillery.
      They idea, to just take a Bradley out of this situation and that this pile of old crap could work just as well on its own as with this gigantic slaughter is simply ridiculous. The majority of Iraws tanks were T-55 anyway, with the T-72 without pretty much anything what you find in and on a Russian one today. The Iraqi T-72 Lion got an effective firing range of around 1800m - plus all the other problems on top of that, combing from the collaps of the infrastructure, communication and so on. Russian T-72 got a firing range of 3000-5000m and that's just the range difference of the gun alone, what alone is already massive.

They have cool stories and valuable perspectives. But they are highly specialized and offer a narrow slice of what modern warfare is like. Your info peels back a different curtain and is perhaps more relevant given the current threats seem to be more conventional peer and near peer enemies and not asymmetric as was the case in the past years. Apparently the source of most catastrophic ammunition fires in T-72 are the spare propellant charges stored in the turret under the the commander and gunner’s seats. They’re extremely vulnerable to virtually any penetration on their respective sides of the tank. Hits to the autoloader itself is actually rare as it’s seated very low in the hull and is somewhat protected from spalling.

    I would go for a simultaneous attack, Jav/TOW, Chaingun, within seconds of eachother (rippled only a bit, not enough to kill confirm). No need to conserve ammo when facing a superior opponent but holding tactical advantage. Throw everything into that opening. Once I know chaingun actually hit several shots on target, reverse, wait for discounts to load up. One dismount can do a peep for effects on the way after displacing from the fire position. If the tank is burning, good. If otherwise, consider the 2nd TOW, but only if you havent been pinpointed, and probably after displacing to the opposite of the direction that you had deployed the Jav team.

    • @talltroll7092
      @talltroll7092 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It will be quicker than the standard training courses, which makes sense if you think about it.
      1) Many of those being trained aren't being trained on *doing the job* of tank crew/armoured infantry, just how to use the new equipment
      2) They are super motivated. You won't have the normal issues of squaddies being squaddies and dicking around, complaining if they don't get weekends off/working past 4pm, not doing the reading up before attending a training session etc. These trainees are going back to a live war, for the future of their nation. They WILL be paying attention
      3) The course content can probably be cut down, quite a bit in some cases. They aren't needing to be trained to meet a NATO MOS standard, including all the fluff that various armies have put in to satisfy peacetime only and/or political objectives; they need to know how to fight the vehicles, and nothing else

    I have seen 30mm from the Russian AFV take out a T-72 by shooting into the tread area and after about 3-4 shots got a penetration through the hull in that area... and that means a good chance to ignite the fuel or ammo. The rear hull or rear of the turret is good too. If I had to take it on front on I would shoot between the turret and hull. Javelin and TOW have a much higher kill probability on any side.

    Honestly a TOW costs less than a Javelin and shooting it would mean I don't have to expose my troops in the back. The hill seems like a great position to stay in since I'm in defilade already and have eyes on a possible enemy route to our battalion, meaning I could coordinate artillery if needed and act as forward recon. I would shoot the TOW and hold position. Much safer than moving anywhere imo.

  • @ace448

    It depends on the T-72. If it has Konkat-ERA on it hitting it with anything Javelin and possibly TOW is most likely to not work. If it’s a bog standard A model. The chain gun should penetrate with the right ammo. However based on the scenario short of just holding up for reinforcements. Is about the best plan.

    Since you haven't determined the status of the Tank or its Crew, probably dismount and have Missiles ready to fire. Then hit with a burst from the Gun to "wake it up". If it moves, Javelin goes first.
    If it doesn't then report the Abandoned Tank.
    Commander may want it for Intelligence or other.

    2:34 / 13:10 METT, or METTC = Mission, Enemy, Terrain, Troops available, and Time. "C" at the end means civilian considerations.
    Mission, the army does not operate in a vacuum. what are your orders. What do coordinators know
    Enemy, composition, disposition and strength... awareness related to threat presented
    Terrain, weather effect on sensors. terrains to yours or adversaries advantage
    Troops available, numbers, readiness, fatigue, operational experience as a crew

    this is different- i like the thief bit, tactical thievery😁- and very informative. can work better if scrounging and thieving is broken down into separate skins.

    Nice try, but I already know how a tank is destroyed. Our training video in the Finnish Defence Forces showed that when threatened by a T-72, an 81mm mortar platoon can take it out by firing a mortar shell directly into an open hatch on top of the turret.

    You forgot the option to let the top 2-3 Rambo type dismounts go capture the tank while you cover them.

    Well in World of Tanks this is what will happen.
    Bradley hits T-72 with TOW, losses health, kills your loader.
    T-72 fires back hits Bradley, it loses health but doesn't even slow down. Bradley charges in fires second TOW, tracks you and kills your driver.
    Brady now closes in enough to open up with auto cannon and circles disabled T-72.
    Hammers T-72, damages ammo rack, destroys optics, hits fuel tank, hits engine sets tank on fire.
    T-72 manages to hit Bradley it losses health but continues attack.
    Bradly has now reloaded TOW and destroys T-72 with point blank hit. Bradly continues on like nothing happened.

    Something you didn't mention, which is odd, is what type/version of T-72 are we talking about? Old plain T-72, T-72M, T-72B3, ect? They all have different sensors and different grades of sensors, with only the latest having thermals for the gunner, sticking the commander with plain old night vision, (of varying qualities), so that will play an important part in this scenario.
