This episode was amazing!!!! You should really be on TV regularly..
Glad your energy levels are back in business again❤❤
I would not worry about getting a housekeeping help. For most, cleaning is no fun ☺️
A robot vacuum cleaner, the round one, could fix the floors.
Glad the doctor agreed veggies are healthy!!!! And that electrolytes are fine, despite the dehydration😊
I wonder if you could have a cat door through a window. Into a big box, containing the cat toilet..

I'm 76 now and realized my yard work is taking me 4 times as long to complete. Not sustainable. So I've hired young people to help me. It's about 85% in perfection. So I have also adopted the phrase it's good enough. For the inside of my house, my motto has gone from perfection to tidy. Spend 20 min a day doing a little something. But do certain things every day like dishes, clean bathroom, making my bed and keeping things picked up. It looks ok. Dusting and wood floors Don't do that often. May end up delegating at some point. I would rather spend my energy doing the things I love than having a perfect clean house. It's good enough works well for me.

    Hallo from amsterdam
Thank you for your kind words about Amsterdam and the Dutch!
    I am 70 years old
    My system for decluttering is:
Every Sunday or Saturday I grab a garbage bag and walk randomly through my house and fill the bag to the top
    Clothes admin cups etc etc
    When the bag is full
    I am done
    This system works for me
    I did my best!
I think you still look fantastic! I love your positive outlook at life!
You are a brave little soldier!(dutch saying)

Found that a cleaning service with 2 or 3 ladies takes such a short time that you and Moose can be in the bedroom and then move to the living room when it is time for them to do the bedroom. These wonderful cleaners are so good and fast. Once a month is plenty and gives you peace of mind that every 4 weeks your cottage will be refreshed and you can stop stressing about the little stuff. We also at one point had a wonderful woman to clean the whole house but it took all day and that can be very inconvenient. An automatic litter box and a robot floor cleaner can be wonderful and life changing!! Seriously , when the floors are done the rest seems easy. You have a solution for the summer, but think about hiring a cleaning service. Believe me they will clean and dust all your precious belongings right where they are ,no purging or declutering. Love to you both,Liz

A few years ago, at the age of 75, I broke my ankle, finding myself unable to clean my studio apartment, so hired a lady ( recommended by my neighbor) who literally cleaned around me as I sat in my recliner. It felt weird, but the end result really boosted my mood. Do the research, ask friends and family, and you will find someone who will work perfectly for you.

I have intentions of decluttering but I love my 'stuff' ! I'm pretty sure I have conquered the art of spending hours on my Kindle and reading mystery novels and ignoring dust ! Oh Nanny-good enough is good enough. I was a "houseaholic" because I knew that was what pleases my deceased husband and also a "cookaholic" because his Mother was-I loved her-she was a wonderful mother-in-law-. I am almost 87-live in a condo and I don’t care if my house isnt perfect. My husband and I raised four children and I also worked many jobs and tried to be involved in their schools and our church and my community. Now I just do what I feel like- I love having friends in- do a weekly Bible Study-still love "fun shopping" and I love my stuff!!! Love moving things around in my home🥰 My children are great and I can rely on them which many don’t have that blessing. Bought a new car this year and go places-and oh, y the way-I don’t always make my bed every day cause sometimes I don’t want to. Love your videos!

I'm 77, and last fall I hired someone to help every other week with my housework. I've cared for my 97 year old mother for 2 1/2 yrs and some chores at her home which is close to mine. Before that, I was also caring some for my dad before he passed away. Between covid and dealing with aging parents, my mother's ill health of many years, I'm weary. My husband and I cope, but it's best to take help where you can get it. Aging isn't easy, but we serve where we're called to. Blessings.

Nannie, I simply don’t see how you ever moved from a 5000 sq ft house to where you are now in such a tiny little cottage. I am so thankful to live in a 4000 sq ft home and hope that I never have to be worried about downsizing to a smaller place. I just completed a large purge and I told my husband that this is as organized and simple as we are ever going to be!!! I am just not going to worry about it any more!!!!! I will be 70 next March, so hopefully it will be a long time before I will need any domestic help. Both my husband and I clean and tidy things up as we go and luckily we are both very neat people who rarely make a mess. If I were you, I would concentrate my efforts on not worrying about purging any of your possessions-concentrate on enjoying you life as it is and learn to be happy with your home the way that it is. Getting some help with household chores is wonderful. I totally and absolutely think you need to get some help with household chores; but, if you love your collections and can’t bear to part with sentimental items-don’t do it-and stop worrying about it!!! You have no reason whatsoever to feel guilty about loving your collections or being a maximalist!!! For those who want to be minimalist, that is absolutely fine-but to become a minimalist at your age, especially after already giving up so much to live where you live now, is just an absurd idea-at least this is my opinion. Love your things!!! Stop overthinking this!!!

At 82, I have simplified, Nanny. I will tell you it’s an ongoing process but each little bit helps to open and expand my life. You have already taken bags out of the house. So you are already simplifying. This is not a race.
Your honesty is so respected! The challenges in this 3rd/3rd of Life are large and oh so deep.
Do your passions. Be a mover and a shaker. And rest as well. And make sure you let someone else do the mundane - like house cleaning.
I’m in the process of looking for a once a month housekeeper right now for my 450 sq ft. Not a team! Because my little things are precious. But someone who can take on the tedious with gentleness, and leave me the passions.

Hi, Nanny. I’m also ‘Nanny’ to 6 grands & soon to be 71. While my energy level is still pretty good, I have a lot on my plate as my 93 year old mom with dementia broke her hip. I go to her rehab every day and stay with her 10 hours a day. It keeps her calm & reassured while being in a strange place as she recuperates. I had to share with you that we,too, downsized moving from our big home of 35 years to a very small beachfront condo. This was 15 years ago. I gave away 90% of my beloved antiques and collectibles to family and friends. We lived happily in our little place for 11 years. In that time I started collecting again and our tiny home became very full just like your casita. 4 years ago we purchased a Craftsman cottage 2 blocks from the beach. It’s double the size of the condo with a garage and tiny yard. And it’s filling up too. I guess I am a maximalist at heart and can’t be happy with clean tables tops and sparse mantles. It’s just not me. I’ll let my kids do the purging when I’m gone. I’ll leave them $$ to pay for the dumpster. 😂❤

Hello again dear Nanny! I believe that you could never by a minimalist "simplist"
.....you are so multi-faceted, have so many interests that your home and many 'projects' are an extension of yourself. Minimalism works for some and that's great, but so much of the items that we cherish are reminders of our life experiences....the years that have flown by and all that has brought us to where are at the moment. Now, I hope this is not a negative view or discouragement in your attempt to purge! To de-clutter is one thing and to purge is another. To carefully take a little time each day to decide what items we truly want to keep and those we can live without is a process....it can be very tiring and even emotional. It cannot be hurried or done when we feel tired or overwhelmed. Donating items that no longer have a 'heart string' can be happily given to charity or any other re-use-it type of organization. In doing this we feel a sense of 'happy elimination' and a knowing that these items will find a good home and be appreciated and cared for. Cleaning out the refrigerator is without a doubt the easiest of 'purging' chores for there is no emotional attachment to stale cheese or browning lettuce! But special keepsakes and clothing are another matter all together. Each time we moved and there were quite a few....I was faced with 'purging' and getting rid of excess. The hardest move was from a beautiful old farm house that of course was filled with life's many collectibles. Now the strange thing is that after several moves and downsizing, the many things that I eliminated are pretty much forgotten. In the end, it is our memories that can never be purged or eliminated...they are the 'decorations' and precious keepsakes that are forever in that special shelf of keepsakes of the heart....and they do not fade or get dusty. And yes, I still am a bit of a maximalist...changing things for the season, getting out sweet reminders of past holidays and decorating my little mantles....there is less, but that which remains is what is best. A bare house has no warmth or story to tell.

Oh Nanny, I don’t know if it is more common for women, but as nurturers and pleasers ( I too never wanted to disappoint my parents) we are the hardest on ourselves. As we celebrate more birthdays, God willing, we must give ourselves the grace we so easily give to others. Not sure at our age we will truly change who we are, our innate characteristics, but we can be kinder to ourselves. Those who want to help us, do so because it is their way of giving back. It is ok to let them. Please don’t change who you are at heart, but perhaps just a bit of adapting😏 Take very good care.❤🌻

Hello Nanny, I discovered your channel this morning. I love it!! I'm 62, retired and learning to grow old gracefully. We need mentors like you that are willing to share your journey with. My aunt Lillian used to say "everyone should move every five years, just to clean house". I've only moved three times, but she was right. So happy you have young family that can help you with household chores. It is good for our young people to learn how to make and keep a home. Please share your skin care routine with us. If you do, maybe some vendors will send you free products to try. Let's keep encouraging each other. With Love from N. Florida.

Oh nanny. What a great video. I’m like you. I collect, craft, read, paint, etc. I’m going to be 80 in June. I need to purge. It’s hard for me because I have issues with my back and strength. It’s taking me forever. I love my things, but I’m not the healthiest, and I don’t want my children to have a nightmare getting rid of stuff. My house is not cluttered, but I’m for sure not a minimalist. Those soups look great! I may get some. I just have to watch what I eat being a cardiac patient. Yes, cats are messy. I have two and even tho I love them to pieces, uggh! The cat box!!!! I can’t afford a housekeeper, and my grandkids are mostly in different states, so I do the best I can. Getting rid of stuff will also make it easier to clean. You always make me feel good about being a senior, and you always look fabulous.❤

Unfortunately, most of it is in storage. So much to go through and get rid of. I think about it quite often. But, I am still working pretty much full time and by the time I get off work, I am ready to just come home and sit. Hopefully soon I will be able to get this job done. I'm sure that it will make me feel so much better and lighter. I know that you will do what you can to get things done. Take care and God bless.❤

I am a veteran, and they send a lady whom I have grown to love very much she comes three times a week for three hours a day to take care of my house and me you should check into that it won’t cost you anything for her services. VA pays for it 100%. I hope this helps you..

Nanny, you mustn't be so hard on yourself. No one is 100% perfect, The one thing you can do, though, is allow yourself to miss some of the deadlines we all put on our shoulders as this can add to the stress. My mother-in-law hired a neighbour's teenage daughter to clean her small home every second thursday. It helped her and gave pocket money to the student. I wanted to have a lady come in to clean our place as I find it difficult to do so due to mobility issues but my husband refuses to have a stranger come in. As I get older. I decided to choose my "battles" and let the other "stuff" slide as much as I can. Be kind to yourself. 💕

I will be 77 in June and I love watching your videos. In the last five months, I moved from a spacious house to a small condominium, so purging was a must. the thought of going through my house was inundating so I started slowly going through one drawer or one shelf a day, and before you know it, I went through the entire house. I don’t even remember some of the things that I discarded so I guess it goes to show that I didn’t need to hang onto all of that “stuff” anymore. Keep up the good work and take it one day or one drawer or shelf at a time. Stay well and God bless.

Dear Nanny so wonderful to see you so well. You do inspire all of us no matter our age, am still in my 70s. A gentleman who's 100 at nursing home i visit though in a wheelchair his mind is as sharp as a tack. Anyway he says I'm in the prime of my life. That's a seceret; no matter what age the outlook & attitude needs to be we're in the prime of our lives.
I too am trying to live a simpler life. I too am a maximalist but don't have your creativity. Maybe shopping what we have rather than a thrift store will keep us from adding more. If I bring in a new item I have to get rid of 3 (donate). I think I need more than I do or save things for someone but really it's our perception. You fortunately have wonderful family around which some of us don't ( like me). But from what I hear from those who also do...leaving a whole lot for them to deal with is a bit of a burden. That they want to lovingly support you ( parents & grandparents) they don't want to say please stop adding to your things & purge. Maybe start to separate what you'd like to gift in a sense have an estate revelation week where they come in and take the items they'd love to have when we go on next journey. This was from a ladies group where they are willing to leave all as is rather than upsetting or disappointing parents. In reality a few of them are concerned about the work it will take to clean out their mom's or parent's home when they pass. Just sharing the input. So am going through the bit I have separating it and out of love preparing for my next journey whether this year or years ahead. Anyway. My vote is getting help especially in physical part for purging even with your overlooking is worth the cost. Being a stranger ( well checked out & recommended) may be a benefit of not having prejudice as far as not wanting to rock the boat etc. Blessings to you. God bless you & yours 💕🙏.

So glad you are better. I had a similar experience with fatigue and heaviness in my chest. I'm 83 almost 84. Took my husband's advice and went to the doctor. Had all manner of tests and am OK, but was advised to go to the ER if I should feel that way again. I published my first novel at 78. At 81 enrolled in my community college for a screenwriting class to adapt my novel. I was in classes with 20, 30, 40, and a few 50 year olds. I could have been their mother or grandmother. The professor asked me to be her teaching assistant next year. I said yes - however, in my everyday life, I live simply with plenty of rest, thinking, reading mysteries. My closet is full of beautiful cocktail dresses from days gone by. I'm a fashionista like you . Purging, decluttering is always on my mind, but I get tired, sad, and unmotivated quickly as the things of my younger life need to move on, and I can't seem to let them go. I still love my creative mind and my teaching (35 years in public schools), so that is my one energy outlet. I've accepted my world is smaller. I spend my energy on what I love and then rest, rest, rest. Love you Nanny. You're a balm for my soul in this crazy world of aging.

Nanny, I understand the perfectionism. I have a feeling you went to Catholic school too. 😊 However, I love that you're getting housekeeping help. Me too. I realized no matter what I did, I wasn't perfect either. I just wore myself out being mother and father (sick husband, died young). I also taught, crafted, painted, worked. And, I was a clean freak. I wore myself out. Nowadays, I do only the things I love or can. I had to get sick to learn to rest. Don't do that. Eat your breakfast. Learn to say no. And, you're lucky to have Moose. Love heals. You're his caretaker and he is also yours. God blessed you both. 💕

Hi Nanny one thing I’ve noticed at 75 is I used to think “oh when I get older I may not be able to do certain things.” Now that I am older I realize a lot of those things I really don’t want to do any longer lol…I don’t want to wash walls and paint every room in my house lol. A few of my friends have hired people to come in and clean, especially spring and fall cleaning, I’m toying with that idea. We live in Rhode Island and we have to change our wardrobe seasonally, as you do this is one thing that drives me crazy, lugging clothes up and down the stairs. I need to purge more. 🫤🫤🫤….We all love you Nanny you’re so wise and beautiful in and out. Take care, do things you love doing. ❤️

Does dust and dirt really matter ??? The happiest people I know don't care about housework....my mom used to say the dust will be there long after I'm gone....
It's difficult getting a cleaner in...I had one years ago...she spent most her time talking to me...I hadn't the heart to tell her to do her job....it was better for me in the end to either do the best I could in the house or ask my children occasionally to blitz the place.
Your happiness and peace of mind matters most...who on earth cares about 2 inches of dust...?
Hopefully you'll figure it out ❤

I try to set a timer for 10 minutes to start organizing my cards and letters kept for decades into decorative keepsake boxes with labels - i.e. Family, Friends, etc. I have oodles of photography too and need to organize them and perhaps make those photo books up. When you did yours, did you still keep the original photos? Also, what company did you use? I think it's great you are getting help. Eventually, I will be doing this too. So hard to keep up. But I'm absolutely against using children for the job, even if it seems to be voluntary. You will get used to the monthly deep clean by a professional service.

Nanny, something that has helped me to give things away is that we have a huge resale store in town that donates almost all the proceeds they make to humanitarian causes around the world. Last year they were able to donate a million dollars because of people’s generosity of clothing and household donations. It’s easier to let things go knowing the money they make off of it goes to help people in need. I don’t know if that helps. 😊

I understand all too well. You are so lucky to have such great grandchildren show up for you. You and Mossie have done such a good job bringing up your children. I remember when my wise teenage child was laying on the couch one afternoon while I was vacuuming, one among the many choirs I laid out for myself for the day. In my frustration I asked him if he was going to lay around all day, he answered, "if you want help, why don't you just ask for it." I'll never forget that. I tried to be perfect at everything and that didn't include asking for anyone's help. Finally, being retired and living away from family, I am living a simple life with my husband, who helps me so much. We clean our rented condo together when we are both in the mood. Thank you for all the great tips. I think prayer will help a lot. We love you too.
