Same thing happened to me - friends, family, basically everybody around me had OnePlus phones, some due to my recommendations. Just gave up on my OP6 due to it's terrible software, and I'm actively warning people to not get OnePlus now.

I feel you. I bought the OP5 on launch day after missing the previous launches, especially when they were still invitation based. What an upgrade it was from my struggling HTC One. It STILL works surprisingly well but last year I started getting FOMO and bought the Pixel 6P on launch as well. $1000 was too much for that device, I tried it for 9 of the 14 days I had and sent it back. Camera wasn't nearly as good as it was hyped (I'm an amateur photographer with a DSLR so I already have something for truly incredible photos) and it was just super buggy imo. The biggest let down though was the battery/charging. It's REALLY hard to leave OP's fast charging behind once you get used to it.
So I ended up buying a OP 8T 256gb model for $400 on black Friday sale. Absolute steal imo and I never have any major issues with it. However, since then the software changes have prevented me from updating it so I'm stuck on Android 11. That really bothers me because the updates on the OP5 were amazing while they lasted, I've never even had to do a factory reset and it just works. I make a phone last at least 3 years so unless tragedy strikes, I'm stuck with the 8T for quite some time. But all these refinements of the UX, combined with a general plateau of technology, have me excited for the future where my next device can be several gens behind and still be a huge upgrade while saving so much money and avoiding early adopter frustrations.

They gave me $300 for my pixel 4a (you can buy them for $80), as well as $100 store credit after purchase. That makes the phone $200 and I got $100 of accessories.

I bought Oneplus 6T three and a half years ago, I still use it , its almost the same except the gallery app sucks and it hangs a lot when I open the camera. It got the flagship phone of the year award and oneplus was at its peak that time. Since then oneplus has been at constant downfall be it software ,design , camera etc, it just never met the expectations.
Really thought onplus could be the next big thing but it is what it is. And now seeing it as the bust of the year it really hurts lol.

Same! I'm a proud OP6T user since December 2018 (so about 4 years now), and it's quite literally the best $550 I've spent, and aside from minor things like camera quality and some minor software hiccups here and there, it still functions like I got the phone like yesterday. It's quite the incredible experience and device, and my best phone till date I've ever used by a MILE. I suspect even if I get objectively better phones in the future, I'd still be very fond of my OnePlus 6T - my segway to a high-end experience for an incredible mid-range price.
However, I've been thinking about what my next phone would be, and about two years ago I'd say it would be the OnePlus of the time I upgrade. Hell, I'm kind of already in the OnePlus ecosystem with the OnePlus Buds (another great device) and so it would just make more sense to upgrade to another OnePlus. But as I've been hearing, they've been on a poor trajectory in recent times. They could've just continued what they set out to do in the first place, buuuut... no. They aren't doing that. Meanwhile, their phones are getting more expensive to the point that it would make more sense to get another flagship device.
I clicked on this video to see if I was concerned for no reason and at least OnePlus graced some good words. I wasn't expecting a OnePlus to win any awards, but I was at least expecting a runner-up or something. When MKBHD mentioned the 10T as the bust of the year... oeuf, that was certainly disappointing haha!
Suffice to say then, if OnePlus continues on this trajectory I just might have to switch to another device. A shame, but I'll live with it. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen though, as the OnePlus experience is still rather fantastic.

I like my 10pro too. 1+ is in this weird transition phase where they're slowly merging oxygen and color os and android 12 just felt barren to me and not in a good vanilla android way. But it was nice, felt snappy and really stable in my day to day. It had a few minor issues like pattern unlock grid sometimes offsetting to the side for some reason or badly designed widgets. Now I'm running oxygen 13 and it's definitely an improvement. Like a cross between one UI and MIUI in a good way. You could nitpick a few things that are missing compared to Samsung (like the dex thing) but it's actually even more stable than before and than my old s20. I never regretted getting it but I'm especially enjoying it now. There's nothing wrong with it (apart from the missing auto brightness switch). Thermal management, display, battery, charging times are awesome. The camera is actually decent, has a telephoto lens (came 3rd in the blind test for me and I haven't even taken enough photos with it to recognize my own device), with amazing color reproduction, and it has a really good audio output for my wired iems. Honestly can't see myself enjoying the base pixel any more at around 680usd I got mine for.

I’m on the verge of getting a Zenfone 9. And ofcourse its contender for me is a Pixel 7 too, until I held it in my hand. The pixel is ever so slightly too large. Not by a lot, but enough to make me go ‘ugh’ every time I would grab it. So Zenfone 9 here I come! :p

What do you guys think of the OS update policy? It's literally the only thing that is a dealbreaker for me with the Zenfone 9, everything else looks perfect (except missing wireless charging maybe).

Was waiting so long for this to come out. I think the S22 Ultra really covered alot of bases, but didn't go too crazy in terms of upgrades. Pixel 7 ruled the smart phone world this year.

Samsung has been playing it too safe imo. They do everything, it's overall great but it's not the best at anything
Edit: well maybe the best at doing everything. They've gotten rid of SO MANY features of the years and yet they still have more than other phones. No one still does stylus's besides Samsung

I need smartphone for business use
      Screensize: Greater than 6.1 inches
Camera: Not ultra important ( Should be better than average)
Need something that Does not hang and require better support for office applications like Zoom, teams or Onenote etc without causing issues ( if multiple apps are open)
      Better security
Battery life should be greater than 5 hours of use
      Performance should be good
Store: If I could get 256 gig that would be amazing, otherwise I would settle with 128G with little disappointment if the other features are better in 128GB range
I already own 3 year old ipad.
I current use MI smartphone which I hate it although it has 6GB RAM and 128GIG storage ( lot of bloatware)
I feel MI gives lot of advertising on ohones and adware everywhere. It is not able to run Skype, Teams and or other engineering software due to weaker cpu and GPU. It is too obsolete being 3-4 year old smartphone
Should i go for value for money smartphone like IQOO or Motorola edge 30 or Realme or spend more on S22 or Pixel.
I am thinking of buying IQOO. I need to purchase laptop too (Legion 5i Pro)
What are your thoughts...I am so confused about smartphonn
