I moved to North Carolina one year ago. The best decision I ever made. Before I moved, I was warned of racist people, I haven’t met any, I was warned of bad drivers, none encountered. I’m also a practicing Christian so I’m not into clubbing or nightlife or taking alcohol, still I’m enjoying my life. I’m African. To whoever wants to move anywhere in the world, if God says yes then go because where God guides he provides, protects, blesses. Shalom and Merry Christmas.
Whoever warned you are definitely against us. I was born in the more country part of NC and I’ve never seen any racism or bad drivers ever. Also two things we do take very seriously is BBQ and duke Vs UNC. Teachers at school fight over which is better and neighbors try to out grille each other. It’s crazy but it’s funny. Also if you haven’t you should try cheerwine, it’s the drink of North Carolina
I moved here 7 years ago with 300 bux and a car full of kids and clothes. Started over COMPLETELY. Things were extremely difficult the first year. After getting a great job our family has prospered immensely. We love NC. People, cost of living, opportunities, views. Absolutely beautiful. Never leaving.
@@amethystabrams5856 is a great place, just avoid Durham at all cost. Avoid the city please. You can live in the countryside and drive 20 to 30 minutes to the city. Stay away from raleigh just because is expensive. But durham is a no no, no matter if you find cheap places
I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.
I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.
@@ElijahOliver-t9u The crazy part is that those advisors are probably outperforming the market and raising good returns but some are charging fees over fees that drain your portfolio. Is this the case with yours too?
I loved living in NC...They're doing wayyy too much though...They're building alot of businesses and homes but are not expanding the roads to support the influx of residents.
I’m from Brooklyn, if you can drive on the BQE, Atlantic Ave, and the Jackie Rob you can drive anywhere on the planet. I wish I would’ve saw this before I moved here 8 years ago.
Really? Hmmm 🤔 have you tried Metro Manila? Or Ho Chi Mihn City? There are some wild drives in cities in Afghanistan... though these days I wouldn't recommend it. Brooklyn is tame af.
As a native North Carolinian you are all welcome to move here if you are thinking about it but please do not try to turn NC into where ever you are running away from Charlotte has a bad habit of removing all of its culture
@@debrataylor4806 our summers can be quite nasty we can easily reach 32°C - 37°C and quite humid and as far as Canadians go I don't think people mind yall I know a few couples that moved here for work reasons they seem to get by just fine
I've have met all kinds of people from all walks of life here, for the most part we don't care where you're from. You do have the occasional knucklehead though.
Great video! Earlier this year my daughter married a Marine stationed in Jacksonville, NC so in April we helped her move down there. Both my wife and I were so amazed by that southern hospitality, we don't do much traveling but by far the people there were the best. We live in the upper midwest and thought that we were friendly people but we do not compare at all. Perfect strangers would say hi and even have short conversations with us and that was coming from all ethnic groups. Y'all down there just seem happier.
I moved to North Carolina from Florida. I love it here. People here are a lot more friendlier. I don’t really find the drivers here being as bad like Florida. I love seeing the wildlife here in NC. I see deer, rabbits, spiders, roaches, owls, snakes, lizards, earwigs, crickets, beetles. I hear those owls at night. People said that they have seen scorpions. I never seen them😂. They have a lot of festivals, town activities. I love seeing families out, about in town having a great time. Especially, on the weekends. North Carolina is a great place to live in my opinion.
Look, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina all of better places to live. People in North Carolina do not want higher crime or urban sprawl. North Carolina is Backwoods and snakes let's keep it that way. As a matter fact I think I'll start a snake farm and just let them grow and released them in the wild occasionally. Keep nature alive!
I loved your commentary! I've lived in NC most my life...Raised our kids, etc. You were absolutely "spot on" and I could not help but chuckle a few times only because I could relate! Well done! Thank You!
I'm Asian and lived in NC over 20 years no. I Remembered when we bought 10 acres we were questioned by locals if we were lost. They called police and I had to showed them the property deeds title. Now the same neighbor is one of our close friends. We cooked some Egg rolls for them thay week and they opened up to us. Use food to fight racism. Works every time especially egg rolls.
As another Asian, yeah the eggroll strat does wonders. Recently relocated from Charlotte to the Kings Mountain area and the neighbors were friendly but weary until we whipped up some eggrolls and dropped some off at their doors. Haven't had any issues since!
You’re not white ! Dark hair won’t Ben discriminated against but you still experienced what o was talking about - they’re very suspicious . I won’t bribe anyone to get them to like me OR Be nice if they call police on me or discriminate !
Probably the fears of Communist China, but I am sorry for whatever happened to you. I think we've all experienced racism. I'm white. In the 80s I worked as a temp secretary for a black non-profit on Capitol Hill and listened to them run negative stereotypes on whites. Then while walking one day, I was surrounded by about two dozen black men who were threatening me because I didn't belong in their neighborhood. Those are only two stories. It doesn't matter what race you are, I guarantee you've experienced racism. Doesn't make it right. It's not.
You forgot to mention fire ants. I had no idea such insects even existed before I moved here. My introduction to their presence was when I stepped on an ant mound in the dark while walking my dog at night. The ants swarmed my foot. If you've ever been bitten by one fire ant, just imagine what it feels like to have them completely cover your foot! I'm very mindful of ants now...
I've encountered them here in SoCal, they defiantly leave you with an impression that they aren't playing but they aren't common. Are yall saying the fire ants are an every day attraction over there?
As a North Carolinian born, raised, worked, and retired, I enjoyed this video. I agree the roads and infrastructure are inadequate. I don't agree that we have crazy drivers. Significant snow only falls in the higher mountains. Our people are friendly. We believe in civility and good manners.
local drivers, who were driving before it got so crowded here, just have a different style of driving. Not crazy. The tourists are crazy- no patience, too big a hurry. I moved here to get away from the crazy tourists. I tell people here in WNC that I am NOT a "Floridian" because I was actually born there. Came here to escape, the idiots from the North followed. They're referred to as "half-backs". Went S. to FL then after a few years moved halfway back North.
Beware of NC state medical laws such as 90-21.13. This statute declares in layman’s terms that once you sign a medical consent form you are basically at the mercy and capability of your provider. There will be no availability for legal representation unless the malpractice involves death. I wish someone told me. My life has been destroyed by the malpractice and the NC laws that support it.
Very true. My friend was shot in keg and had a wound it began to fester and nearly needed to be amputated. They left the shrapnel in the leg and he could not sue.
I've lived all over NC my entire 47 years of life including Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Rocky Mount, and Wilmington. Everything in this video is spot on. 1) Flying roaches are called "waterbugs" and they usually don't come into your house unless it is cold or it has been super rainy. They feed on decaying matter and typically live in your garden area where dead leaves can collect. 2) The jekyll and hyde thing is referenced as, "Bless your heart" OR "have a blessed day". This can mean quite often ,"*$#k off" and is used as psychological survival tactic by convenience store, grocery store, and retail outlet cashiers. Friendly customer service is not the goal. 3) The smallest amount of snow, which was referenced at an annual 3 to 5 inches for most of the state, shuts EVERYTHING down and for some dumb reason we buy up all the bread and milk because... no it makes 0 sense. 4) The gun culture is like manners, personal beliefs and the family Bible which are all passed down from generation to generation. People tend to believe and hold the values their parents taught them and there is very little straying away from that into adult life which means our culture tends to be slow and anti-progressive. 5) Wilmington is the most racist part of the state and in NC the racism comes at you from every angle and every color. No one gets left out. 6) The gators stay away from people for the most part, but they are abundant and thriving and get very big. 6 to 8 feet (imo) is common. 7) There are bears in Eastern NC too and because of so much construction and destruction of their habitat, it is common to hear about them in neighborhoods and this is 20 minutes from a few beaches. 8) Spot on with the wildlife. I'm a 9 minute drive to downtown Wilmington, but live in the country because suburbs weren't a thing in NC until the late 80s and early 90s. There is so much wildlife here that I set up a spot in my backyard called the Critter Corner with an actual sign (you can see videos at my Instagram account CSArtGallery with opposums and foxes eating together) and every night I have opposums, raccoons, and red tail foxes come up and eat the peanuts I leave out. I even had a rooster come up and hang out with me for a week... like he would sit in the chair on the patio (picture of that as well on IG)... you can't make this sh** up. We also have rattlesnakes, 8 to 9 inch long lizards, jumping spiders, etc. 9) There are LOTS of sharks and many of us don't go into the water anymore past our ankles. They bite and do so with regularity. Thanks to global warming we now have great white sharks too 🙄. 10).Finally, you left out one important detail. We go NUTS over college sports, ESPECIALLY basketball. You are born into fandom here and it's heritage. My Dad went to NC State and we buried him in a Wolfpack shirt (as he would have wanted it). Everybody who isn't a UNC Tarheel fan hates Tarheel fans. You have the type who actually went there or are legacy and we refer to them as the wine and cheese crowd. The rest of their fan base has 0 chance of getting into that school so we call them Walmart Carolina fans because it's their Tarhole merchandising Mecca. Bonus fact... In Eastern NC we have a sporadically occurring natural event called Seneca Guns (of course its got to have a gun attached) where a large and powerful BOOM will happen that shakes your entire house. It's occurred for hundreds of years (Seneca native American tribe legend) and it isn't the dozens of fighter jets we see each month breaking the sound barrier or an earthquake (earthquakes now occur in the middle and western part of the state). The latest theory is that it is an underwater landslide occurring far off the coast, but the boom resonates and makes its way inland.
Love this video, every single thing is true. I'm born and raised in NC. Lived in Graham for 10 years where they have the statue in the spot where the man was hung in front of the court house. Wasn't much to do there, so I moved closer to Greensboro. You will cuss everyday when driving here, no one can drive or park - they are completely oblivious as to how big their vehicle is. We are also serious about our college teams - UNC and Duke is a huge rivalry here. The mosquitos, earwigs and camel crickets will run you out of here too. And yes, when it sleets we shut the schools down completely, it aint got to snow yet. Be prepared to be snowed in for 3 days because we can't clear the roads. Folks still buy all the milk and bread whenever there is a threat of inclement weather. If you go too far in the country you will still see the old slave houses and rows and rows of tobacco fields. Tractors are still on the road, small country stores, no cell phone signal and the southern drawl gets deeper and heavier the further south you go. If you stay in the city, close to downtown area you will be just fine. We get all the seasons and all the natural disasters, I swear we had a mini earthquake one year lol. We don't put our winter and summer clothes up, you just never know what the week is going to bring. Sweet tea has to be served at every single restaurant, or we will think you are crazy. North Carolina is a great place to live; I don't plan on moving from NC and I love to see new people move here from all parts of the state/country. Love to meet people from all walks of life.
I like your story. I was born in Graham, moved to New York with my parents, worked for MTA Bus for 39 years. I’ve retired, had enough of the New York City life, move to Knightdale, NC. I love it here. It’s very peaceful, nice friendly people, found a great family church. We did look for a home in Graham, but all of my relatives there are all gone.I remember the court house in Graham, and as a kid, we used to go to the Graham movie theater on Main Street. One day, I’m going to drive through again to get some good old memories of Graham, Haw River, Green Level, and Snow Camp. Glad to move back to North Carolina.
Born n raised in NC and that’s a pretty dang good run down of our lil slice of heaven. It ain’t perfect but it’s damn close. Thanks for a fun vid neighbor
Love how much time you spent on wildlife. I'm originally from the DC area, my wife is from NY and we live in Raleigh. We camp all over and have decided your gonna have all types of people almost anywhere. First thing I noticed was the driving. People in DC and NY are aggressive but are able to drive. People down here think they are the only ones on the road. No turn signals, stopping in the middle of the road, slowing down to look around. Thanks for the video. FYI you left out the fire ants!
You are 100% correct about the fire ants and we got them in GA also. Also, about all types of people almost anywhere. I lived in Wilmington for 1.6 years, Fayetteville for 2.6 years, and I like both places. I agree what he has stated but most things are true about other places I lived. The pollen was really bad in Fayetteville. The pollen in GA and VA is mild. I am originally from VA, lived there 18 years, and presently living in middle GA for a total of 24 years. Of course, we don't have to worry about hurricanes, only tornadoes.
I’m a disabled veteran and have lived in many places across the USA. I retired to the Piedmont of North Carolina about twelve years ago and I have not regretted it since. There are four seasons in the weather, Social Security is not taxed, and I find that the VA hospital in Salisbury is excellent.
Mark, Glad to hear that a veteran likes Salisbury VA. I'm actually considering relocating to an area near or in the surrounding area of Salisbury, NC; because I'm also a disabled vet and VA locations are important to me. Thanks for your service!
I'm a native of the coast and wouldn't have it any other way. The coast is becoming really gentrified though with rich people from up state and out of state that are ruining our laid back coastal culture
I live in NC and I agree with the massive amount of people moving here. Woodlands being cut down, farms disappearing, pretty soon NC will be one huge parking lot. When I leave you can buy my house! Also, the gun thing is 💯. In NC the 2A applies to EVERYONE. If you can legally purchase a handgun, you are encouraged to do so.
@@wendybreault3157 The only sad thing is more people aren't encouraged to do so safetly. Too many people are ruled by fear. The most dangerous cultures in America are the most afraid of guns.
Carolina born and bred. You’ve perfectly described my city transplant husband’s culture shock process . After 20 yrs he finally got his CCW ,knows how and why it’s necessary to determine a snake or spider’s species as a friend vs foe . He’s also adapted some pretty great manners and southern hospitality during his assimilation. Can’t really comment on his driving adaptation bc he’s from S.Florida. It can only improve from there sooooo . Local honey does work for most people if done correctly. It has to be your specific region and the current year’s local honey to be effective . It works the same way a vaccine does . U introduce the immune system to an intruder ( allergen) deliberately in small , methodical , controlled doses . That way the immune system slowly learns how to effectively fight it . NC is definitely a F ‘ around and find out state when it comes to the wildlife and the people.
You're not wrong about Charlotte drivers. My first week here I almost wrecked 3 times on i-77. One guy came from the ramp across 4 lanes as soon as he got on. I was in the right most lane and ended up in the farthest left lane trying to miss him. You feel invisible.
Southern hospitality 🤣 NC has some of the rudest, nastiest ppl I have ever met. Not to mention the crap weather. And I've lived in 4 different states. North south east and west. NC is a sh*t hole.
Being a proud Tar Heel I must admit that I was put off by the title since I was born and raised in NC, left home in the military, lived all over the US, travelled abroad and now at age 64 can’t wait to finally retire and move back to property we purchased in the NC mountains….but you nailed it. Was like a hilarious trip down memory lane punctuated with nonjudgmental reminders. A stand up comedian couldn’t have done more justice to this presentation. Highly entertaining and started my day off with a huge smile. Other Tar Heels shouldn’t be put off by the title…it’s all true and guaranteed to make you laugh!
A Comedian could've done way better. It's a great video but don't insult the art form of stand up. He's objective. Which is rare now. But Comedians are our truth tellers!
I've spent parts of my life in NC, Southern California, Florida and the last 36 years in Georgia, I just moved back to NC and I can tell you these other places have prepared me well for life here in NC.
I am from NY and I love it here in NC. I have got very used to southern hospitality. I go up to NY sometimes and boy is there a huge difference. They think I am weird up there because I say” Have a nice day!” I say it at stores and pretty much everywhere I go… it’s a southern thing.
Same here!😂 I'm a Jersey Girl, but I've been living in CLT for about 15 yrs and I agree that the atmosphere is completely different when I go back to visit, I'm ready to come back home in about 3 days!🙄 And people look at me weirdly too when I'm smiling and say, "thank you, Ma'am or Sir" Yes, it's a Southern thing...🤣
Oh I grew up in NY. Lived in Toronto for 8.5 years. And now here in the NC mountains for 30 years. I fit right in. Even while growing up & living in NY I said "have a good day" to everyone, same in Toronto. People up north do it too. Just not to absolutely everyone as they go by. LOL 😂 I am grateful to live in such a gorgeous area.
Thanks for an interesting video. I've lived in the state for nearly 30 years, although I'm from the NYC area and have lived in 6 states total, and currently retired and in Ohio. I lived in Greenville for almost 12 years, and then in Lenoir for slightly over 18. I would like to offer the following comments and observations. 1) That spider is a harmless garden spider or argiope, and it is found in NY and essentially throughout the eastern half of the US. 2) The eastern part of the state is hot and very humid in the summer. It is like Florida, but with colder winters. It is flat, and rattlesnakes, copperheads and water moccasins occur there. I have known a few people who were bitten by copperheads--one of them while in a parking lot in Farmville. Chiggers, often called 'red bugs' in North Carolina, are mites that cause itching under one's clothes that are much worse than mosquito bites, and I have literally received over 100 bites in some wooded areas, especially the Croatan and Uwharrie National Forests. Ticks and mosquitos are also present. One girl I knew there complained that when she wanted to eat her lunch outside on a pleasant December day, yellowjackets still came and wanted her to share it with them. 3) The mountains of NC can receive snow measured in feet at times, and it can get very cold. In January 1985, it reached 4 below zero F (ACTUAL TEMPERATURE!) in Greenville, and it killed the only large cabbage palmetto planted in someone's lawn. 4) Other things that are very popular in NC are basketball, auto racing and beach music. (I had never heard of the latter until I moved to NC.) People who live even a couple hours from the beach often talk as if it were right next to them. 5) One can see cypress swamps and Spanish moss in various areas in the eastern part of the state. Native species of palms grow as far northward as Goose Creek State Park, but are more common toward Wilmington, with the large cabbage palmetto being native to Bald Head Island but planted in many other area farther inland. 6) Fire ants occur in nearly half of the state. 7) There are many state parks in NC, and many are home to interesting natural features (as opposed to artificial lakes, etc. sometimes featured in other states), and until at least 2013 admission was free (and probably still is). 8) North Carolina is the only eastern state in which both fir trees (on high mountains) and palms (SE part of state) are both native. On some spring days having the right sequence of weather, it may be possible to stand where trees already have leafed out in the spring while looking at a mountain with snow on it in the distance (which I've experienced by looking at Grandfather Mountain from Lenoir). 9) Traffic lights (often called "red lights" in NC and some other southeastern states--either the people are pessimistic, or they don't realize this term has another meaning!) are frustratingly slow in many towns. (One might want to bring a good book to read while waiting for them to change!) Freeways are definitely appreciated even when the traffic is light in the cities and towns. 10) Driving in some of the cities can also be frustrating, although hopedly GPS helps. A view of a some of the cities on a road map looks like a web made by a spider that had taken LSD. Roads go in various directions almost randomly, and "must turn" signs appear with little warning, so it's easy to get lost and sometimes difficult to get back where you were going. I've driven in every state and several other countries, including other continents, and I find Hickory, NC to be one of the most frustrating, a comment I've heard from others. 11) Local people in NC typically greet by saying "hey". Hours even shortly after the noon hour are typically referred to as "evening" instead of "afternoon". If one is "ill" it refers to anger rather than being sick. If expecting a friend to show up, or even a bus or train to arrive, someone will say they're "waiting on" rather than "waiting for" the person or thing. Some of these are probably not unique to NC. 12) North Carolina has its style of barbecue sauce, made with vinegar. Some places are famous for it, such as "B's" near Greenville. By the way, if making reservations for Greenville with a national company, one must be certain to specify NORTH Carolina to avoid landing in the much larger and better-known Greenville, SOUTH Carolina. 13) As is true in many states, there are towns or cities named after the same person as the county, but in NC there are a number of cases in which the city by that name is not in the county having that that name, and sometimes they are widely separated. 14) If driving to NC from Tennessee on I-40, one should be aware that the first 15 miles in NC are very curvy, and a bit of a challenge in inclement weather, especially at night..
What a great video! It is so nice to see a presenter who can provide an intellectual overview of a topic in a non-biased manner. I don’t know if I’ll move to North Carolina, but I’d love to just have a beer and a conversation with Sir Ashley - what a great guy!
I'm an NC native whose lived south of charlotte my whole life (save for 3 years of uni in the triangle) and I can confirm this is all accurate. It wasn't until a year ago, when I found myself with a friend group who all had just moved down for an internship, that I realized how INSANE the wildlife is here. Especially the bugs. I spent my whole life thinking everyone just had a ton of spiders, ants, cicadas, mosquitoes, grasshoppery things, worms, buzzing things, etc. Turns out, nope. We are special and our bugs scare people. RIP i guess. 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sorry nothing scared me more than thousand leg bugs (house centipede) in IL that terrified the hell out of me when it dropped in the bathtub as I bathed.
with all that violence and mass shooting happening in the US how can you be afraid of insect alot the most illogical thing about this is that to have such insect and wild life you need propper healthy eco system to have such wild life and insekts but some how this is negative
The driving fact is soo true. I went to my friends in Charlotte and held my seat belt the entire time 😂 I’m born and raised in central NJ so I know crazy but Charlotte and ATL are on another level lol
Funny you say that because a large part of the problem is people who transplant here.. you’re hard pressed to find an original Charlottean so to me it’s all these up north people who Can’t drive! We’ve been driving since 15! We got this.. and I never have any issues driving around any other star in America! People always tell me I drive like I’m from there!
@@thetravelgoods2760 I agree with you. I say the same! I was born and raised right here in raleigh, N.C. lol! I am already mentally prepared to move to Charlotte. I asked realtor here about talking to sir Ashley, because she don't do the Charlotte area. She already spoke to him, that's been a couple of months ago though. I am gonna be contacting him before the week/weekend is out.
I had the displeasure of visiting a friend in SC. It’s even worse there. It seems the state and the small cities can’t keep up with the growth. At some intersections, you either floor it and pull out in front of somebody, or sit there for 30 minutes, maybe longer. At least they aren’t waiting to expand I-85 like NC did.
@@thetravelgoods2760 although I was born in New York, I've lived in Charlotte since 1997 when i was 1, so I'm pretty much 100% from Charlotte. And you're right, it's always people from out of state who don't know how to drive. I've had so many close calls on the road.
I lived in Durham NC 42 years before retiring to Florida. Everything you say is true. There can be ice storms in January and the highway patrol warns everyone to NOT get on the roads. Half the city of Raleigh will jump on those roads and be in 10 car pileups from one end of the city to the other. Then they cry about the cost of car insurance. They have NO REASON to be on the roads. Their places of employment are shut down. The hospital workers are sheltered in place. But the loco drivers suddenly want to find a place open to get a hamburger or whatever.
@Jimmy Jenkins The snow birds (those that live in a northern state six months out of the year and the other six months in Florida) are the ones that jump on I-95 in a hurricane. Floridians shelter in place. Where would you think trailer park residents are going to run to? You can give ME a break.
At least many Iowans can drive in the snow. We don't shut down. School may be canceled, that's all. But, I do call off work and stay home if it's bad. I'm not dumb!! But our winters have been getting milder. We had 1 bad snowfall this year, in SE Iowa.
I was born and raised in Durham,NC and the only negative is the population boom; those moving from the north and other southern states, have brought their bad attitudes/habits to my fair state. I would have to disagree with alot of the things he said, especially how he tried to make it sound like we were gun toting fools, it is absolutely not the way he described. Please anyone interested in residing in NC talk to those who have lived there their whole lives.
Good video & observations. I have lived in a small town in the foothills of NC my whole life. Nebo on Lake James. I have played volleyball on a spring day & got sunburned. Hopped in the Jeep later that evening & drove some back roads for bout an hour & played in 3 foot of snow near Mount Mitchell! You can’t get that in many other states. One of the best days I can remember.
I moved here from NY 10 years ago. I was thrilled with how clean everything was everywhere. Even little kids didn't throw their candy wrappers on the floor. And no tolls. NO TOLLS! My rent was super cheap for a gorgeous apt. IT WAS HEAVEN. Now we have tolls, dirt and extremely high rents. I'm thinking of moving again. I'm in Charlotte, maybe I should enlist your help.😥
I think with all the negative your putting out there very few people would even considering calling you. I’m a New York here and anything will be better than NYC. I think this guys is really killing anyone of trying to move into NC. If he hates so much NC why do you still have investments there? I own multiple investments in Charlotte Ballantyne and in South Carolina, Indian land. Best investments I ever did!!!!
“There is a population boom, and a lot of people moving to the state from out of state” also “The native North Carolinians are slow to change” Native North Carolinian: You moved here….and you want me to change?
Slow to change meaning going to NC is like taking a walk in the past. Some people might enjoy that but it is a statement to be made. Many things about NC are not up to date compared to other parts of the country.
Wow I moved to NC 4 years ago from NY… and this comment section is the most I’ve ever seen people being mean to non- native North Carolinians….shame on y’all….and, BLESS YOUR HEART…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As someone that’s lived in Charlotte for 36 years, you’re right about the driving. Idk what the reason is, if it’s people that have moved here or what, but the driving is just getting worse and worse. Wasn’t this bad when I was growing up.
When people move to another state, they don’t think for a minute that another state means another driving style. They assume they’ve brought their entire world with them. The accidents that are piling up around the country as a result are a total nightmare. It’s only getting worse. No place that is getting flooded with people moving to their town or city is able to keep up with the infrastructure. It’s just awful in Wilmington. They just keep tearing down wooded lots because there is no buildable land left in town, and out of town developers come in and say oh look, I can fit a massive shopping complex where those trees are! Well that wooded area is a major part of our local flood management! Where is all the water gonna go when we have a storm and the former wooded lots are now paved concrete?? It’s gonna be ugly.
@@loutheglassguy4658 for real people can't even shop without a phone, cant drive, can not do anything! Totally addicted to a phone & social media, sad & disgusting!!
Omg this was great! I’m from NY and lived in NC for 10 years. You are right about everything! I’m in the process of moving back even with these reminders though. You nailed it!
I am a North Carolinian and I will say the traffic growth over the years is ridiculous I lived in a small town of 5-6k people and when my parents moved here in the triangle there were dirt roads and forests everywhere. Now the area has grown so much on rush hour traffic it may take me a few hours to get from home to the store. (5-6k 1998, 40-43k 2022)
I don't see the writing, but it's saying a heap to me just hanging there in all it's glory. In Texas dog or not, we hang beware of dog signs. Maybe a better deterrent would be to just hang a writing spider from the gutters.
So excellent! Keepin’ it real...keepin’ it real. Snakes, bears, lack of diversity, guns and hurricanes ...that gives me pause. So what you’re saying is the Carolina’s aren’t for the faint of heart.
NC is very diverse in the Urban areas and smaller metro cities. Watch out for the very small towns East of Raleigh though. Remember the movie: Wrong Turn. NC has 100 counties and virtually each one has a community college and/or a university. Many industrial/commercial/business opportunities, wages are decent, and the cost of living is manageable.
I'm native born and have lived in western NC all my life. I agree with anything that deters more folks from moving here. Too many people are coming here and they are bringing the problems with them that we don't need.
As a person considering a move to North Carolina, I found this video to be extremely helpful. Even some of the smaller issues you mentioned give one a flavor of the state. Thank you very much!
Don't, if you plan on living on the coast be prepared to have your house flood about once a year. The Piedmont and flatlands will run you off and the mountains are ungovernable. Unless you are a local you will be torn to shreds, I recommend Virginia or Texas.
Lived in NC 60 years, all of what he said is true. U can wash your car in the morning & at lunch u have a yellow car. I got bite by a copperhead snake last year. Anti-venom shot cost 30,000$ I took 3 shots. Our mosquitos sound like huge airplanes buzzing your ears.
@@nicholasholden8139 BS...I've been going in the mountains of NC for decades and have never had a single issue, much less been torn apart. I've never had someone say, "you're not a local" and I've been in some backwoods areas. To quote Yoda, "Only what you take with you", maybe you're the issue??
Ive been in NC for a week from Ohio. And YES people in NC drives entirely CRAZY..... so far most everyone has been sweet as tea in person, but sheesh I am nervous as hell when I have to drive somewhere in Charlotte!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Out of the fozens and dozens of Cary/Raleigh are videos I have seen, you are the very first and only person to discuss pests such as snakes, spiders and flying roaches a.k.a. water bugs. God bless you for keeping it real! This type of stuff is what makes or breaks a new living experience. MUCH appreciated!
Thank you! Fantastic review. Besides the 🕷 and snakes everything else seems perfect (I battle drivers here too in the NY/NJ/Pa triangle. Always summered in SC since a child, but always loved NC. Thanks again for an honest and informative review!!
Well as "Wolverine" in the comic X-men# 96 said "..Baby ,you ain't seen nothing yet". And I'm just outside of Charlotte. I have been here for 10 years . My money is from NY,(We aren't "right to work" we still have unions) and I have been here 10 years now. Andt even with the spike in infatuation I rarely look at prices. But what I do look at are the trees that are being cut down for development .And the increase in traffic. When I went to Ashville for a weekend I could have stayed a week( I was having fun).,but my girlfriend had to be at work on Monday.. In 10 years my mortgage on my 2,700 ft townhouse, has gone up from ,$1,009. to $1,075. The rent on the 2 bed 2 bath apartment I lived at for 6 months before I purchased has gone from $870, to $1400..And Walmart and Amazon is $15.00 an hour. "It's just a thought"
@@machetedonttweet1343 i am born and raised in western NC and my county was always known as "small town friendly" i disagree with that but anyway... people have been moving in from your home state and places like california and florida and all around. huge housing developments have replaced farms and manufacturing facilities. nothing but restaurants and hotels coming in so no good jobs here hardly. they moved here for the lower cost of living but even before the spike in inflation prices on housing. rent and taxes have gone up significantly in the past few years. its getting so bad that people who were born and raised here cant afford to live here because a gated community or an equestrian center jacked their taxes up. basic utilities have doubled in price. if you lost your job during covid your looking at a restaurant job or something like that to support a family and its getting worse all the time. if you dont already have your house payed off your going to struggle
@@paintballbot Sounds like you are from Hendersonville or Mills River....this is what we are going through. It was already getting expensive and now with the inflation, things could be better for sure.
Regrettably this seems to be happening all over where they're just not planning properly and the builders and the politicians only care about one thing and that's money .
Excellent video, straightforward and fair. I live near Asheville and this part of the state is struggling with the consequences of its own success. So many people moved here to escape the rat-race that they brought the rat-race with them.
So true. The same situation appears to be happening in outer areas of Charlotte & Wilmington, as well. Those that wanted to get away from life in the fast lane, can’t cuss, honk, or complain when they get behind a tractor.
I live right outside Asheville as well and I couldn't agree more. I absolutely love living here but the leaf lookers that flock here to the blue ridge parkway drive me fukin nuts
If you’re not a four left progressive Democrat, welcome to North Carolina if you are and you plan on voting that way, keep your ass in New York. We don’t want you here. Don’t New York or North Carolina.
The DMV here charged me $875 to register a 38k SUV. I was shocked. It's extremely expensive to register a car here. I moved here from MD and am beginning to rethink my decision. For context I only paid $150 in 2 years which only amount to $75 a year.
I do have a story about drivers in NC. I was house/dog sitting during Daytona for a friend back in the 90s. There was east coast blizzard, my friend got a ticket for doing the speed limit on his way back home as he was driving through NC. All of the other drivers were going below the speed limit and crashing. He got into West Virginia, every car was passing him nobody was crashing, he was still doing the speed limit with his Ford F350 with a fifth wheel camper.
In 88 I was pulled over in a corvette that had a digital speedometer. For 1 second I went 1 mile over and 🚨🚔! I showed him the speedometer and told him he followed me for 3 miles on my tail in back roads and I am NOT going to be spooked into slowing wayyy down because he's behind me. He sd have a nice day and walked off.
You should see the variety of roaches in New Orleans. My husband and I moved to the area in 2018 and moved out in 2022, because of the crime, but the roaches were everywhere in the house. They are one of the smartest and creepy flying bug I have ever seen. To get rid of every one of them; I personally had to start at 10pm for an hr and hunt them down. I did this for 4 months. Every one of them new me and they tried to hunt me down, because I was a threat to there family. I had them fly on me, craw in my bed and in the window seal and we lived in a beautiful historic house on St Charles Ave. I was determine to get each and every one of them off my property. At first I called a few different exterminators, but they we’re afraid, so I had to do it on my own and finally got rid of all of them. I meant business!!
Lmfao.... Roaches don't "know" or "recognize" people...nor do they hold grudges for, or maintain or aware of their "family". What nonsense! Ilive in Jacksonville, FL...same latitude and climate as New Orleans so I am well familiar with huge cockroaches and everything you claim is erroneous..or hugely exaggerated!
I moved to Winston-Salem from Philly in 1999 and moved back in 2008 due to divorce. I loved everything about it. I plan to move to Morehead City NC in March to live near my daughter. It's beautiful there. Everything you say about NC is absolutely true. They can't drive, especially in the so-called 'snow'. But what I love is that everybody SPEAKS to you. Black AND White. You don't get that kind of common courtesy in the north.
Like Sir Ashley I moved to NC from New York, and I literally cried the entire trip to Charlotte because I didn’t want to leave the Northeast. But I soon found life in Charlotte fine and a big upgrade in my standard of living. Let me offer some observations about Charlotte. (1) Charlotte is not Bible Belt. You may be very disappointed in the church life, so don’t move to the big cities of NC hoping to upgrade your church life. (2) Yes the drivers are reckless, especially in rain, snow and icy conditions. (3) I’ve heard there are snakes in Charlotte but I never saw one. Tons of deer. (4) Wood for stoves is free, people put it out by the roadside for you to pick up. Or you can go into the woods and just take it. Not like the Northeast where you have to buy it. (5) The snow doesn’t stick, even after a relatively large snow it’s gone by the next day. If there’s a frost, it’s gone in a few hours. (6) It’s very cheerful here because the winters are so short, the trees keep their leaves and extra month and sprout leaves a month earlier than in the Northeast. The length of days is also not so extreme, so you never have those winter days when it’s dark by 4 like in the Northeast. (7) I miss the outdoor concerts (especially free ones) that are so abundant in the Northeast. (8) It’s too dangerous to ride a bike in Charlotte, the drivers aren’t looking out for bikes. They don’t even expect to see pedestrians. In my first year I was struck by cars in parking lots 3 times. (9) Even in Charlotte they have vicious bugs whose bite will make your arm blow up like a balloon within minutes. They also have what they call “no-see-ums” - insects that bite your arms and legs voraciously and leave you scratching for days, but which you never see or feel on your body. (10) From Charlotte you can be up in Boone in the high mountains in about 2 hours, a beautiful tourist area. Can’t beat that! (11) There isn’t as much racial antagonism in Charlotte as in a northern city, if you sit down at a bus stop Blacks and Whites will chat amicably. (12) Gorgeous apartments (by northern standards) are available at very reasonable prices in gated complexes. (13) Great medical services in Charlotte, world-class, state-of-the-art. (14) Prices of housing are rising like mad because so many people are moving in. I left Charlotte after 5 years because I foresaw that I would soon be unable to afford housing there.
Ok number 4 is why y'all folks are sometimes problematic, unless there's a sign which explicitly states that the wood is free, you are expected to leave some money mate.
Lies, Charlotte is bible belt, born here and 6 generation strong to the plantation of Landis county and yes my last name is Landis. My family was built in Cornelius and yes you will find our names there as well The Cathey and Withers. What you don't realize is that Charlotte had less than 50 to 70,000 people prior to 1980. Yes our little city had big pockets, it's a banking city so they're driving prices up to avoid the city being run down by outsiders. It's so much space here do they're building like crazy. Charlotte have over a million people now. Anyone who is from here know each other or someone family black or white. We take religion seriously so no you're not going to find a lot of churches because most big cities play with God for money. I'm sorry I'm highly offended. I'm 52 years old and this crazy when Billy Graham have a parkway. Smh and the Crowders mountain is only 20 minutes West of Charlotte
I'm from Eastern NC and I moved to the western part of the state...its a BIG DIFFERENCE in the winter months. I also had a culture shock moving west as well. I didn't appreciate NC drivers until I visited Florida for a few days lol

I moved to south Charlotte 4 years ago and we haven’t had snow yet. They have in north Charlotte. The thing I dislike the most is the food. Restaurants suck big time. Drivers suck big time.
There's plenty of good food here but as a life long resident of Charlotte I know the spots most people don't. However I agree completely with the Drivers. It wasn't that bad 20 years ago but in the last 10 it's gotten a lot worse.
@@theglassmaster3140 I’ve only been here a small handful of years & there are quite a few outstanding places to eat. This, coming from someone who spent a lot of time in Louisiana, which I think has some of the best food (not just Cajun, either) in the country.
Hey my fellow New Yorker. My best friend & her husband moved to Charlotte 20 yrs ago with the hope I would follow but my mom is here in NYC so that can't happen yet. My hope is to relocate but to a small town like Springfield SC or somewhere similar. My PTSD from living in NYC has me craving calm & peacefulness. I make at least 3 trips a yr to Charlotte or Myrtle Beach annually & I love the vibe just not sure of where I would plant my roots yet. So watching ur channel is definitely helping me to a more sound decision. I know I don't want to be in the mountains or back woods. The information has been helpful so I've subscribed yep I'm a newbie

Thank you for the discouragement, I was thinking about moving to NC, but this video has discourage me. I wasn't that convinced, but this satisfied every one of my doubts.
Been in Raleigh all my life, I’m a licensed general contractor, I’ve been a part of the development of this city for 20 years, yes the traffic has gotten worse because So many people want to live in one of greatest places in the United States. Great schools, Shaw, St Augustine’s, NCSU, Peace and Meredith. If you’re afraid of bugs get you some bug spray and give Raleigh a try.
Y'all should try VA, it's got some of the pros of NC without the constant fear for your life because of all the retarded drivers, racism, gun carriers, and Marines just waiting for a reason to kill you. Oh and alligators haha
You're fantastic! I loved this video! I appreciate you sharing your point of view on North Carolina because we're considering moving there. This was valuable information. Again, you're funny Sir Ashley! Take care!
OMG! I laughed till I cried. I move to NC after my daughter said it was a great place, back in 2008. Now, realize, I was living and working in Honolulu, HI at that time. But it wasn't as much of a culture shock as I thought it would be. My daughter and her family live in Otto, NC. I found a small, one bed & bath up in the mountains in nearby Franklin, NC. I fell in love with the place. No big city traffic, beautiful vista's, not too hot or cold, friendly people. But, you're right! I'm not fond of the annual influx of sometimes rude tourists, usually from FL. And in Autumn, the "leaf lookers" come here in droves! Many people have second homes here and only are here to spend the cooler summers up here, rather than spend the time in the hotter, more humid areas of the south. I grew up in the Los Angeles area, and at 24 moved to the deserts and mountains of very rural Utah, where my husband and I raised our children on a working, but small, ranch. After my kids were on their own I moved to HI and lived there for 8 years in Honolulu. I've always preferred country over big cities. Bugs don't bother me, nor do spiders, snakes, bobcats or bears. I myself keep frogs, snakes, and tarantulas as pets. (Had to mention that to see if my hobby gave you the Willie's! LOL!). And yes, I too have a CC Permit. As well as my daughter, her hubby, and father-in-law. But our once small town is growing. Housing prices are ridiculously high. Every thing is getting expensive here. I'm paying gas prices that I haven't seen since I lived in Hawaii! But I digress. You are absolutely correct on all the points you made. NC may not be the place to live for many, but it's perfect for me.
I loved Honolulu, I've been twice in the Navy. I've been 3/4 of the way around the world, but I grew up in Otto and that's where I am now. Bates Branch Rd. And I've been a volunteer fire fighter at Otto for 17 years. I love it here, though it is getting crowded!
Come to Maine the ticks are bugs and they will bother you. They're freaking everywhere. It's so sad because Maine is known for it's outdoors but the tick situation has gotten so bad over the last 10-15 years. They stopped spraying that's why. Never saw them before 20 years ago. Now you can't walk in the tall grass or the woods without getting them on you. Who wants lyme disease? No one. There's also another disease they carry that makes you allergic to red meat for the rest of your life, there's no cure. Disgusting things.
@@garrygreen1928 HI Garry ! My daughter and her hubby were both in the Navy. They were both stationed on the USS Port Royal home Port of Pearl Harbor. She got out after 4 years. But her hubby was career Navy and retired after 25 years as a Chief.
Good Lord. It’s just a garden spider and won’t harm anyone. Keeps the bugs down. Snakes keep the rodents away. So at the end of the day it’s nature and it’s all good!:)
Except for the Brown Recluse. They eat bugs too, and will not pursue mammals, but where they are present, reaching for that tool or box in a rarely used corner of your shed, could be lethal, or cost you a limb. Even indoors, they can take up residence in a pile of clothes, or a laundry basket that is left sitting too long. Not a creature to leave to its own devices.
I really appreciate that you have a law degree. It's so important that realtors know laws. Thank you so much for sharing about these things about NC. People should know about the states they're looking at moving to! Do the research.
I am from Long Island and right away noticed how you talk with your hands. I do that too. I now live in Smithfield, Va and own a beach cottage on the OBX in Corolla. Very informative video. Keep up with your videos. Great presentation. Good luck selling.
I lived in Virginia Beach on a lake and hated the water bugs. I can't do snakes bigger than a baby Garter and definitely no gators or bears. Thank you for sharing!! 💚
I'm a native new yorker as well, but my parents both grew up here. I've lived in florida for 11 years before i came here, so some of these things you've described are kinda common to me. All of these things are spot on but the one thing I think you missed, that shocked me, are the taxes here. Everything is taxed, and the worst has to do with your vehicles. Paying property tax every year for a car, that you don't even own, ,if it's financed, is crazy to me. But overall an excellent video.
Just finished watching, and my holmes here kept it real! I know dick about real estate but my man here just got a sub after the honest response about firearms. Cheers fam!
In the south guns are their gods. Grew up in the south. Grew up with guns, used for hunting and protection. Today attitudes are different, and reckless about guns.
Now I know The Matrix is monitoring our conversations. Yesterday I was having a discussion with my sister about us possibly relocating to North Carolina. Now this video pops up in my watch feed. Scary!!! Snakes, spiders, alligators and bugs. Never mind 😂
I'm looking to move South from Philadelphia so I don't want to ever see snow at all but the Flying you know what's is a deal breaker I can do Bears, Deer , and Alligators but that particular bug is my Kyrptonite flying or crawling .
Really appreciated this video! All of your viewpoints are from someone who has only lived on the East Coast. For the sake of your viewers, I'd like to list a couple of things I've noticed since living here being born and raised in socal. 1) Everything is closed on Mondays outside of chain stores. This never existed in CA. I think they work themselves to the ground, here I feel business owners actually recognize that breaks help replenish energy. But, it IS slightly annoying when you want to go somewhere and think, "Oh crap, that's right, it's a Monday and they're closed..." Ya know, the Sunday Chick Fila feeling.... 2) ABC Stores. I had never before seen or known what an ABC Store was and people from NC cannot even fathom what life must be without them. Imagine just buying liquor at any store!?!?! I was later explained that the ABC Stores actually generate income for local municipalities, etc so that's cool, BUT, very annoying on the other hand because now I can only go to certain locations for hard A. 3) ROADS SUCK HERE. They really do. Because NC was one of the 13 colonies, many of its roads, county/city lines are based off of very old systems and/or natural resources. Due to everything being extremely old and historic, many roads have to work around many of these private residences, etc. That's why all the roads end up being very curved; like, ALL of them. I can't think of one street that is completely straight the entire length. 4) Mailboxes are extended out into the road. I assume this is so mail people have an easier time but what happens is that because it's extended into the street a little bit, people hit them all the time. I've lived here for 4 months now and twice my mailbox has been hit sending mail flying everywhere and I have to go in the middle of the road to pick it back up. 5) I can't attest to the poor driving but I haven't seen the whole "Get in the car and turn into someone else" effect. In fact, I have seen the opposite. Time and time again people courteously let me change lanes or allow me to turn onto their lane. Again, this NEVER happened in CA. In CA, everyone is in a rush to get places so if they stop and let you in, that will negatively impact their arrival times. 6) The soil is clay not sandy dirt. Not really a big deal, clay is very nutritious but it does demand a different outlook to growing crops or planting. 7) The DMVs separate license plates and IDs. As in, you have to go to a License Plate DMV to get your license plates which is in a different building than the DMV to get your IDs. Very strange, no idea why. 8) This isn't a big deal at all just something that I noticed: At Harris Teeter (not sure if other grocery stores do this) the line at checkout is BEHIND the cashier. So, if you see Line 1 and the cashier, the line for Line 1 is actually BEHIND the cashier instead of in front of the scanning table. I kept noticing people "cutting" in front of me before I finally interjected and said, "I'm in line" to which I received, "No you ain't" in response haha. I guess I was the dumb one for assuming the line started IN FRONT of the cash register, ya know, like every other store in the planet. THese are all just nuances that I noticed between socal and Charlotte area, not bad and not good just different! Which I love. I have been here for 4 months and my family is absolutely in love with NC. The people are amazing, prices are better (2022 economy blows, but still better $6 gas in CA), the landscape is so green vs just a brown, dead landscape to look at. Hope this helps at least 1 person. If someone from CA is confused for a moment like I was when I experienced these things AND happens to read this comment for this specific video, I hope it helped you :)

Floridian here, and I'm upset with the amount of people and traffic that has stifled the state in both congestion and housing costs. We're thinking about where we want to retire, and NC is probably the best of both worlds. Mountains and beaches! We appreciate the non-biased video! I have lived in Western NC for 18 years and it's crazy beautiful here. My area is actually considered one of 2 temporate rainforests in the country. Waterfalls everywhere too. This is a great video, but have to disagree with the "significant amounts of snow" in the western part of the state. It rarely snows...and when it does it disappears for the most part within a day. Even in the mountains, it's too warm here for significant snow. Some higher elevations get more, like Highlands, but it's nothing compared to what areas up North get each year. Most years we get none at all, maybe a dusting.
Agree on the snow. Only 1 big snow I can remember. I've seen snakes but no roaches, thank goodness. Plenty of wildlife, don't mind the possums, rabbits ect. People may have plenty of guns but I don't think I've seen any in plain sight.
I live in the North Western most corner of NC right next to VA and TN. We sometimes have very little snowfall but sometimes we get hammered. I have saw the ground white from Thanksgiving to spring. @@lisashafer346 People from NC do seem to be terrible drivers. Typically hogging the left lane, driving 5 under the speed limit, speeding up when trying to pass etc. I think the drivers is one of the reasons I would never want to be in NC.
@@JoshuasRecordings the other side of that coin are those who seem to think that there is No Speed Limit (except the speed they want to drive), and of course No matter what speed you are driving is always - mph too slow for the road rat that is tailgating you . As a Real Estate Professional, I respect that you posted this video but as someone who was born and raised in NC and lived in NY (Bronx) for a New Yorker to insult our driving is laughable. New York drivers made me bring my car back to NC. From the laws to drivers, NY drivers (and the DMV itself) is looney tunes.
I can agree with you about the DMV. I am from CT and our DMV is ludicrous. When I experienced the DMV in Charlotte I was absolutely AMAZED. It was so fast, they were so friendly and the biggest surprise it was so cheap! Up here in the Northeast you are going need to pack a lunch cuz you will be here awhile. You are going to cry several times and definitely argue with a few strangers during your trip to the DMV. And after all that you will end up paying a lot of money lol. It's gonna be a bad day lol a real bad day.
No he is right. Number one difference is NC drivers don’t use turn signals and number two is they disregard solid lines. NY drivers drive fast but tend to use signals more and don’t disregard solid lines to the extent NC drivers do. Although, it might not be NC drivers so much as people from FL who move to NC. But I did learn something about you saying alligators. You got me on that one. I can’t wait to get down to Wilson in July and celebrate my birthday. There’s nothing like a country barbecue!! Mmmmm yasssss! You are invited! Lol!
Don't get too bold because by you being African you better not move to a Sundown Town ..because maybe you'll be swinging on a tree

I miss the way NC use to be. It has become so populated and so fast. Everything changed since I was a kid. 😢
Indeed. Too add to that.... There are idiots on both sides of the isle but for the most part... We are family!

Now the same neighbor is one of our close friends. We cooked some Egg rolls for them thay week and they opened up to us.

Most of the bad drivers here are the people who moved here from up North.

Must be red state.
I lived in Wilmington too
Exactly and they are NOT ROACHES!!!! LOL

I am grateful to live in such a gorgeous area.
You weren't in Rhode Island during the Gypsy Moth invasion (1980). Entire sidewalks were covered with caterpillars! They killed hundreds of trees.

Bullet city
Some just don’t like hearing NO🤔😉
This video was EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you so much for being open and honest ❤️ God bless
People bring where they lived with them .
Yeah all the people moving here over the last decade has totally hurt us here in N.C. We were fine until everyone decided to come here.

That's true in any area. VA is very liberal but, those from CA want to ruin it.

As someone that’s lived in Charlotte for 36 years, you’re right about the driving. Idk what the reason is, if it’s people that have moved here or what, but the driving is just getting worse and worse. Wasn’t this bad when I was growing up.
Same in Georgia 🥴😫
Most likely because of the technology. People can't just drive anymore, their attention is on the phones.

Theres plenty of diversity in the bigger cities tho.

I think that's an issue in the south in general.

The DMV here charged me $875 to register a 38k SUV. I was shocked. It's extremely expensive to register a car here.
I moved here from MD and am beginning to rethink my decision.
For context I only paid $150 in 2 years which only amount to $75 a year.
Yes, it cost a little more to register your car, but you don't have to have your car inspected every year, which saves you a lot of money! Tell it all
I do have a story about drivers in NC.
Im from NC and the driving is not worse than Texas... San Antonio to be exact! It's horrible here, accidents on every highway, everyday!

We’ve been looking at houses in NC, and my question is…..what is NC’s issue with 2 car garages? So many houses with no or 1 car garages 😳

Spot on. I’m a Jersey Shore transplant who’s been in Charlotte for 4 years.
Dead at ‘ they don’t even expect to see pedestrians’. No, North Carolina is not pedestrian friendly state.

Me too
This just happened to me!
Bruh it b happen to me to what ever I think it will pop up...
I'm looking to move South from Philadelphia so I don't want to ever see snow at all but the Flying you know what's is a deal breaker I can do Bears, Deer , and Alligators but that particular bug is my Kyrptonite flying or crawling .
YEP!! Can't deal with it.
You should do some tour guide work on the side, you have that knack.
We are considering moving there from the bay area in ca. Looking for good schools mainly for our 7 year old current 1st grader.
@@amandarae6262 I would home school for a couple years until the school system is fixed and repaired and goes back to real schooling and children being taught the right things, not the liberal, socialism and gender confusion mentality. I’m sorry. I live here. I wouldn’t live anywhere else, but I would home school if I had young children. My son is 26, so I don’t have that issue anymore. He got out before the heavy indoctrination was in full effect like it is now. I’m in Johnston County. It’s my fave area besides Carolina beach and Wilmington, minus downtown Wilmington. It’s great, but not to live there, just for eating out, etc. just a heads up. Hope I could help some. FYI,though, we do not want liberal socialist communist transplants. It’s against Christ and I’m not a Bible thumper, but he is my creator and source and I follow him. Keep your children safe, always save the children! WWG1WGA
@@lauratruthseekingWarrior Amen sister. Trust me, the ones moving out of CA (like me) are not the ones bringing CA with us haha. If we liked CA and their politics so much why would we move away from it? I mean, yes, the school system nationwide is pretty bad but it's nothing like how it was in CA where if a 13 year old girl wanted to switch to being a boy the school system is legally obligated to withhold that information from their parents and enable the transition.... can you believe that?
Thank you! Especially for #6. Very helpful.
Thanks for all the info. I was thinking of buying a few acres and having a small farm out in the country. Maybe that is not reasonable.
Floridian here, and I'm upset with the amount of people and traffic that has stifled the state in both congestion and housing costs. We're thinking about where we want to retire, and NC is probably the best of both worlds. Mountains and beaches! We appreciate the non-biased video! We've visited NC several times and have friends and family that are wooing us to move there. This video pretty much sealed the deal. Thank you!
Do not move here. The inflation from lack of labor will squeeze you out of retirement.
Make sure you save up A LOT of money. Our housing rent costs are rising and it's really f... up to people with low income.
@@gamegeekxI’ve been looking there places for sale and rent, I think pretty much everywhere her in fl costs double what I’ve seen there. It’s extremely unaffordable here, and it’s like places for rent are trying to make sure people in their 20s have nowhere to go
Avoid
The OBX is a tourist trap but it’s still beautiful I live 2 hours from there I used to live there but we moved back to where I grew up
I have lived in Western NC for 18 years and it's crazy beautiful here.
You can count on a week of high winds and below zero wind chill for about a week each winter here. The snow just comes and goes.
There's plenty of snow, on the actual mountains, but most people in WNC live in the valleys at relatively low elevations.
@@gospeltech1926 are you right by west VA then VA if you are traveling north or vs? What city do you live in? I am in Jacksonville FL and I have been living here now 13 years and I never liked it. I am from Cleveland, OH and was considering moving to NC like where you said you are to be closer to home. Are there 4 seasons there? What do you dislike the most other than the snow? Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.
We must live in the same area .. been in WNC for 20 yrs transplanting from the great northwest ...tired of the cold and snow ..that area anything under 2ft was considered a dusting 😳..WNC is great 👍
I'm a native to NC. All areas have their good/bad. I find it hard to deal with individuals who come here and expect everyone to listen to them drone on and complain. All roads are open so we're nice enough to help your pack and wave "Bye Felicia" as you try to back your U-haul out.
or they want more taxes and laws, when we are taxed and law'd to death as it is
I lost patience at one point and told a woman who said her sister moved here from New Jersey and loved it the first two weeks, but then started screaming “why do they drive so slooooowwww here!!” I said, she can move back. She was so stunned she just kept muttering “she can move back” as though the idea had never occurred to her. 🙄
Pull in the left lane to pass any you will automatically find some NASCAR wannabe doing 30 over the speed limit just because you pulled into the left lane. Frankly that does not bother me as much as those who insist on passing on the right, and particularly doing so when one highway merges with another. Very stupid and dangerous. Look on the shoulder you will see makeshift memorials with a cross and flowers to coumarate where someone lost their life in a traffic accident. It is sobering.
I agree with you Pam. We know where Charlotte Douglas is and we will help you pack so you can move back to where you come from. We enjoy the slow life at 80:-)
Great job on discussing highly emotional topics with calmness and clarity. It would be great if everyone had your sense of decorum. Thumbs up!
I was ready to disagree with you about the driving part then I thought about it, Charlotte traffic is rough, Fayetteville too at certain times. Don't let us get a inch of snow, it's over 😂
God, Family, Friends, Guns. The top four reasons I have lived here my entire life. BTW, that spider is harmless and there are plenty of bears in the eastern part of NC as well. Worst drivers in NC have NY tags, nothing personal...
Do u know y? A man from ny told me they only go block to block and its bumper to bumper they have no idea how to drive long or steady driving. Made sense to me why they can't drive
Your my people 😂 Born and raised!
You’re so funny!!!! I appreciate your honesty about the wild life!!!
Great video, I lived in Raleigh for 2 years decades ago 1983, I loved it back then, but I am glad I didn't stay, especially after watching this video :)
I love North Carolina. The home of my ancestors! True facts about the state. Thank you for this!❤
I planned on moving to Greenville to retire. This Post is informative, and I appreciate it. Nevertheless, I don't have a problem with gun culture, Patriotic sentiment, or conservatism.
I still appreciate the info.
@@hammadzakee1554 I like Greenville it’s nice there , also I love how it has its own airport . I live in Cleveland and my parents live in Greenville and I love that I don’t have to drive from Raleigh just to see them
Mines in South carolina
I am a native North Carolinian. I also have family and vacation there during the warm weather months.
The main reason I have-not moved back there, is TAXES and the high cost of living.
I go camping in-the mountains where I go gold prospecting with the GPAA.
STOP RUNNING DOWN. NORTH CAROLINA ..
Great vid. Wish I watched this before I moved 😂
"so much pollen you'll think everybody's driving round in a yellow car"😂
Truth
I moved to the Lowcountry of South Carolina. North Carolina sounds similar. Do you have Armadillos? I thought they were only in Texas! And skinks! Scary ! I have to fight the lizards for my patio chairs. They live in my cushions and have become guests in my house. I also didn’t know NC has 4 seasons. SC has hot, hotter and hottest with 100% humidity. I thought we were the only ones with yellow cars, houses, patio furniture etc. I just found you today and I
enjoyed your video so much that I subscribed!
Lol
Hi I'm Eddie. If you plant onions snakes will avoid. Plant them around your yard.
I cannot do the DMV any longer, top reason is the horrible traffic and drivers
Right
I am from NC, but live in MA now. I laughed at this one too 😂
I can agree with you about the DMV.
They really can’t drive
You are hilarious and a scary cat! 🤣🤣 I am from New York and I’ve been going to North Carolina all my life. My family is from Wilson, Snow Hill, and Charlotte. Snakes and spiders don’t phase me. But I did learn something about you saying alligators. You got me on that one. I can’t wait to get down to Wilson in July and celebrate my birthday. There’s nothing like a country barbecue!! Mmmmm yasssss! You are invited! Lol!
Thank you for the invite! I went to a few good parties at Barton Collage in Wilson!
Serious amounts of snow? Laughed out loud! Great video!
