    The part you said was a packing item is actually a steady. The other parts you may not know are the chuck face plate and the dead centre, a quick Google search will give you an idea what they can be used for. Love the Clio build, keep up the good work!

    • @RuskiWeldFab
      @RuskiWeldFab 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you! i knew about the steady actualy. just meant they attched them both for ease of packing the machine. the other part haha the faceplate. yeah i need to google it.!

    The extra chuck jaws are called external ones. They mount in reverse to the other set in the same chuck to be able to clamp larger diameter stock. They are numbered in sequence. The round plate is called a face plate and is used to clamp intricate shaped objects. It is mounted instead of the chuck. The four jaw chuck is used to turn eccentric shafts, work or square bars as you mentioned. Nice piece of kit.

    If you cant buy an old British lathe or mill (they are awesome but not for everybody with limited space) then only buy from Warco or Axminster - anything else affordable is utter junk. The difference with Warco and Axminster is they get the Chinese manufacturers to make the machines to their own design modifications and tolerances instead of just buying whatever junk they spill out and rebadging them like Clarke, SIP, Sealey, Draper etc etc etc do. Then they inspect them and swap out any troubled parts etc. Thats the difference between Warco and Axminster and just buying from anybody else flipping Chinese machines. Axminster are slightly more refined versions and more modded than the standard Chinese models but cost more. Warco choose the more heavy duty models, they tend to get the chinese machines in heavier casts and without the plastic gears etc and ensure quality but they are more bog standard than axminster and generally more cost effective. Axminster's guarantee and after sales service is second to none though. Either are a good bet.

    On a lathe the Z axis is the axis of the spindle. The X axis is the cross slide axis.
    Never run the spindle with an empty chuck -- safety hazard!
    Some nomenclature: "Gears", not "sprockets". "Live center", not "revolving center".
