The Atari 2600 uses a Colpitts oscillator. I plan to use this circuit to inject a new clock frequency on my Mega Drive's processor, a Motorola 68000, to overclock it from ~7,5mhz up to 12mhz. I have a 10mhz version of the processor to replace the original 8mhz one, so it will suffer less from the overclock. This is very beneficial because Mega Drive games speed are not clock dependant, so it will only correct slowdowns in certain parts where games overload the processor a little. The Pierce oscillator is used on the Game Boy, I put one on my Super Game Boy to fix the clock frequency to match perfectly the original handheld's frequency.

Very interesting. I have a Channel Master antenna rotator control unit with a PIC16F57-IP that wont tick over. I'm going to try replacing the crystal oscillator to see if it will fix it. Thanks!

21:59 the 2N2222 and 2N3904 BJT's are NPN transistors.
