How many life storys are told with this song. Gary Stewart was one of the greatest Country singers of all time. His voice could cut you like a knife. You felt every word he sang. It's a shame that he's gone
Can’t believe this song doesn’t get more attention. He had so many hits but this was a song that make you zone out at the bar thinking about your choices.
You have expressed it right right on the money but then the song made certain people think how close they were to the words of this song and thought oh no not me it was tragic how he ended his life and the details surrounding it
There will never be another Gary Stewart, I seen him live so many times I lost count, we used to go see him anytime he was playing any where near Austin. The last time we seen him was at Coupland Dancehall known for always providing real country music. I sure miss those days!!!

BEST slow two stepping song EVER... He actually lived just a few miles from me when he passed away. His last few years were spent there so i was lucky enough to see him perform many times...... always just as great as the last time.
Saw Gary in Lubbock Texas in the mid 1990’s. As a young man, I was so excited and happy that I could see him! To my surprise at the end of the night, I was able to meet him and have him sign one of his CD cases I brought. He was a great man with a great talent. I wish he could have stayed with us longer! RIP
IM NOT A BIG COUNTRY fan I find most of it corny but this guy is magic i played this song 6 times in a row just now while cooking.Thinking about heart break back in the day .So much emotion in the music. What are some other artists that can give this feeling?let me know
Damn....The man is pouring his heart just like he did on all his live performances and studio albums. Really miss Gary. What a fabulous talent. I don't think no one really could grasp how talented he was. This track exemplifies what Gary was all about. R.I.P. Gary.
I loved Gary as a brother. We played the same venues for years. Shared laughs and tears. More tears. I miss you Gary. But I do remember the goog ole wild times. Thanks
You said it bro! I can't stand when people say he sucks and cant sing, just because at the moment they see him sing he isn't feelin' all that great. This man was DAMN GOOD!!
Damn! That voice just slides right up under your skin and puts a choke hold on your heart! Thank you so much for putting this one up. I always need a Gary fix.
I saw him in Pasadena in the 80's, and before he started, he chugged a full bottle of cold beer. Then he just blew us away for awhile. Man he was great that night. Always great.
I knew this guy personally he battled demons and he was fuked up allot but he never ignored a fan and was straight up he also wrote most his songs.Suicide has ended the talents of all my favorites
Agreed 100% I has the pleasure of meeting him and personally had some of his musicians play in my band. This man definitely Battled with depression and substance abuse.
I also had the great prviliage of seeing Gary many times at Marlow's and other places too.there are four generations in my family that listens to his music. He was, still is and always will be the best. love you miss you.
greatest singer . God given talent, piano, voice and guitar player. we miss your voice. thank you you tube for keeping it alive and we loved you Gary Stewart
I knew gary he played at the long branch saloon here in vero beach a lot. and gary was the best .he was a great singer and a even greater person he was down to earth type of guy who liked to hang out with his fans and have a good time. he was one of the best he is truly missed
Greatest country music singer of all time. Gary Stewart lived his songs and knew what he was singing about. When you want to come down to rock bottom put on some Gary Stewart songs.
I know he hated that last CD live at Billy Bobs but if you listen to it ...you hear a true artist saying farewell .to his life, music and fans ...and it is a truly masterful last statement as an artist ....and you can see the folks dancing to every song .....Gary Stewart music was dancing music !!!!
I’m not sure what it is when i hear these songs but it automatically takes me back to when i was a younger boy , takes me back to the day way back when . Reminds me of my parents , I guess it’s because there was always music playing every get together & hearing music like this automatically makes me reminisce. I’m 31 as of today and wish i was brought back up then. Some of the greatest music was before my times and just wish music was still made this way .
I saw him a few times but I think the most memorable one was when he was so damned drunk he could barely talk, let alone sing, and he walked out on stage with a pair of pajama pants on and a pair of house shoes and jabbered a bunch of stuff no one could understand into the mic and then took about three steps and walked off the edge of the stage and busted his ass. His band took over and between them all taking turns on signing it was actually a pretty good show. That was about 1989.
My favorite song by Gary. I did kinda know him. Opened a show for him. He was a very respectful person when it came to other artist. He knew because he had been so dismissed. by others for so long. Gary was indeed the king of the tonks.
Saw Gary Stewart in the Crystal Chandulear, (Cedar hill),Southern junction(Rockwall) TEXAS . Gary Stewart all ways had put on a good show....Love him & miss him. R.I.P. Gary Stewart.....
Several singers stand out in my mind. Some are country, rock, blues, you get the drift. They can make you feel what they re singing about. Gary Stewart is one of them. Look into his life. Miss you very much but I understand.
Great Video. A true Country Music Singer. He should have been a Superstar. Always a great Concert. Gary treated his fans like friends. He always took the time to Talk and Sign Autographs. One of a Kind. R.I.P Gary.
I agree with you--Gary Stewart was a unique talent and his loss is very sad to us. To me, his best song is "Dancing Eyes," which not only reflects his talent for singing wonderful drinking songs, but shows off the talents of his very talented backup band.
I was fortunate enough to see Gary 3 x. 2 of the shows were 5 star but the last one in 2000-01 he was way too wasted, or preoccupied or something and the show consisted of maybe 6-7 songs ( standard stuff) and he was rambling on between songs. it was sad. Gary Stewart is still my go to for honky Tonk music.
@MrCasey18 , I think Nashville is prejudice against the greatest music he ever writes and sang. I.Can't believe, he did not get the recognition as well.. Our radio station at least played he's music. Giviing his family their farewell and condolences from KTNN voice of the navajo nation.
him and george jones wrote the best songs. well and the writters for george strait and garth but gary and george wrote their own stuff. Their lyrics are unbeatable. simply amazing. wow!
I listen to Gary every day, and I don't even drink!! I love the emotion in his singing, and no one comes close to Gary for the real stuff.. You could just see how he LOVED singing, and being with his fans... Who is like that among those Mega popish stars of today??? And don't you just love the way he says EMP ..TY glass???
*Last comment continued: "Man, I've been stuck on this 'Empty Glass' idea all day." To which my Dad replied, "Like when you're down to your last cigarette." Gary lit up like a light bulb and wrote almost the whole song right there.
Truly the king of honky tonk. My dad was a drinker and hard worker in and out the house.. and always listened to Gary Stewart. And now I see why! As a single father now, I see why he loved this music! Hits home harder than joe Stampley, Brooks n Dunn eddy raven.. etc! Haha the bad dude Gary Stewart 😎🤟🏽🤍
Brad Swiger.....what an awesome post my friend!!!! Phenomenal!!!! I have been listening to Gary Stewart since he hit the country music scene way back in the late 70's. He was a gem. What a great loss for country music. There will never be another like him.

Can’t believe this song doesn’t get more attention. He had so many hits but this was a song that make you zone out at the bar thinking about your choices.
IDK I got some folks to play it at a bar. They looked at me crazy lol
You have expressed it right right on the money but then the song made certain people think how close they were to the words of this song and thought oh no not me it was tragic how he ended his life and the details surrounding it

I loved Gary as a brother. We played the same venues for years. Shared laughs and tears. More tears. I miss you Gary. But I do remember the goog ole wild times. Thanks
Did you know my dad, Dearl Croft? He and Gary were best friends for years? Just curious if you knew him. He managed a lot of country artist
It's true, "once is never enough", can listen & watch Gary on this clip again & again ......
The best Gary Stewart song, by far!
Death took one heck of a man. It wasn't the easy way out. so many of us have had "that empty glass". I been there & back.

My brother loved Gary. Had met him several times at Angus, Tx. Sadly lost my brother in 2014 and when I need a good cry I go to this song everytime.
