Teammate sitting on the sideline not working and getting paid is a morale booster. Management has a reason for letting it happen.
"A player holding-in until he is paid what he's worth" is one way to look at it.
"A player holding-in and hurting his team until he gets a bigger slice of the team's pie" is another, more accurate way to look at it.
It's a salary cap league, so a player getting a raise isn't just an extra x amount of dollars that the owner spends, it's x amount of dollars that can't be distributed to their teammates, many of whom would also like a new contract.
Would you work for your employer, without any guarantees that they'll pay you? If you knew what Williams had been put through in Washington, you wouldn't question what he's doing. Your take is silly.
Yes…the difficult aspect is recognizing which of those players are totally deserving and which are not. Way too many guys get paid just cause the team is gutless. It’s the players job to get paid and it’s the front office’s job to manage it.

The point that you tried, and failed, to make is "would you work for your boss with no guarantee that they're going to pay you in the future", which i also do, every day.
The funny thing about it is if we restructure Trent, Kittle and Fred Warner (meaning give them 2-year “extensions” that give then more signing bonus money with basically 2-voidable years added on to stretch the cap space), we’d have enough money to keep BA on the max deal he wants and sign Brock Purdy when he’s due.
Very true, you'd just have to be prepared to get butchered with potential dead cap in a couple of years.
A lot of people aren't looking down the line enough, or at the other contracts and cap hits they have pending. They owe Bosa 40 million in 2026, and 50 million in 2027 if they don't get out of his deal. Purdy could cost 60 million annually when he's due.
Aiyuk is trying to get $30m. So he'll play on his 5th year. Williams's last chance to get some $$ he's still the best LT in the league, the niners could do a new contract to lower the cap hit for this season, give the big man some big money and help towards next offseason when we'll have Purdy's deal to do. We could do something similar to Williams with Fred Warner. Saves cap.
Trent Williams wants more money? He's 36. His cap numbers after this season are astronomical. Players are getting too greedy these days.
Tell that to the owners, tv networks, etc.

He has no more guaranteed money left on his deal, meaning if he was to be injured, he would not be making any money.
The best lineman in the NFL who plays the most premium position on the line is well within his rights to ask for more than 20 million or whatever he is making now. A left tackle of his caliber on the open market if he wasn’t as old would get 35-40 million.
@@DRFOPwhile I get why people say stuff like this, mostly because they have no clue the risks and costs behind all of this, it's really misplaced. Go ahead and take away the networks and employees that broadcasts these athletes games. Take away the stadium. All the merchandise money. Stadium workers. Organization workers. And so on. You'll end up with guys playing a game on a field and nobody able to even watch it. Maybe that would be for the best and then everyone might recognize how lucky literally everyone in the industry is.
Why do we have a shower cap? Let’s do Dan billionaire spend all the money they want! The salary cap should be on concessions and ticket prices.
Their worth? None of them are worth that much... the NFL is being sued and lost over 4 billion. I wish owners would unite and lower prices for tickets, quit pricing people out of tv deals... and pay these players way less and take way less themselves

Trent Williams has no leverage whatsoever. He’s still under contract for 3 years and he’s 36 years old. So it’s basically show up and play or retire. You’ll never hit free agency, if you sit out, your contract years will toll
No he has a lot of leverage A LOT. Hes the only good lineman the Niners have and he knows that along with the fact the team has superbowl aspirations like always. Without him that makes it twice as difficult.
Literally all they’re best run go through Trent side 😂
