    Hello from Germany. I'm just missing the Grana in the Dirty Dozen collection, very hard to get! I have two German military watches that were traced to the actual pilot. One of the watches is from German ace, Emil Clade, who was on the mission, with his wingman, in which British Gen. William Gott was shot down and killed. Gen. Gott was the predecessor to Gen. Montgomery. That event probably had huge significance on the outcome of the desert war. In addition to the watch I have Clade's signed book (in German), pictures and his medals. The interesting thing is that after the war he and the pilot of Gen. Gott's plane, H.E. "Jimmy" James became good friends.

      Hello there! Wow that's a great a amount of history attached to those timepieces. Definitely something to hold onto for the next generation. Let me know if there is any other information you'd be willing to share. Maybe you can help me create a video telling the story of your pieces. Feel free to send me an email through my website, www.lastwatchhorology.com if you're interested.

    I have a 32mm black dial Glycine with small seconds at 6. The back has been polished leaving only a letter D. It runs perfectly. Lots of chocolate coloured patina on the dial. I wear it occasionally along with my big collection of Soviet watches, mainly Type 1 Kirovskie wrist and pocket watches 44mm from around 1935 to 1942.

      Spyros Kopitsas If you want a modern classic style field watch, your best value for money, in my opinion, is the Hamilton Khaki. It’s an incredibly well made, respected automatic movement that aesthetically still holds true to this era.
      Millions of wartime watches were made, and if you want an authentic wartime watch, they can be found on eBay if you’re patient and know what to look for.
      As you probably know, in these modern times, G-shocks, Timex Iron Man’s, and Casio pathfinders are some of the more common choices today-at least for American soldiers. I was unsure of your question. I hope this helps. Happy collecting.

    Absolutely fascinating video. Really love vintage watches, especially from WW II. Thanks for the very well done video. Just picked up a new Bulova hacking field watch. With each watch sold, Bulova donated a portion of the proceeds to train veterans to be watchmakers.

    I think it's interesting that the US had 3 manufacturers but little old Blighty needed the output of 12 different Swiss manufacturers to meet demand. And at chronometer accuracy!

    • @MrEli204
      @MrEli204 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1701spacecadet don't forget there was virtually no domestic watch manufacturing in Britan and the Swiss were supplying the Nazi's with watches too.

    • @emm_arr
      @emm_arr 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Britain didn't really have watch mechanism manufacturers after - from memory - the 1860s. British pocket and wrist watches used Swiss mechanisms after this.

      Elgin, Hamilton, Waltham, Bulova, Longines, and some others made wristwatches for US Armed Force... much more than three.

    Were black dials more prevalent than white?

      Here's an interesting article from Goldammer. By 1950, white dials were becoming more and more popular.

    I just aquired a military CYMA Tavannes watch with black display and triangular 12´ index with dots ( B-Uhren type-a inspired ) 36 mm diam. and in very wearable condition (military steampunk kinda vibe) without noticible restoration except the crown wich i suspect it was replaced for civilian use (aviation watches have large unconfortable crowns), i thinck i found a history jewel for 165 buckaroos, what do you think?

    Military kind multi-feature watches may incorporate 3 or 4 of these dials. They're very famous these days because they provide an eye a sporty high tech appearance and appearance appealing at the wearer. Additionally, they provide various varieties of facts that can't be received from conventional watches. To learn more watch this video: th-cam.com/video/uFCYNKyCXOw/w-d-xo.html
