Gieslingen Marsch [Austrian march]

- Composed in 1916 by Josef Dobes in the Klausenkaserne in Salzburg. Dedicated to its mayor Max Ott and premiered under the original title "Bürgermeistermarsch". The march was rededicated to the regimental commander of the Croatian IR.16, General of Infantry Artur Freiherr Giesl von Gieslingen, by higher order in 1916 or early 1917 and assigned to the IR.16 as a regimental and defensive march.

Schöne Aufnahme!! It may be of interest, that Arthur Giesl was orderly officer to crownprince Rudolf at the time of his death, one of very few persons to see the dead prince. He was also involved in covering up the circumstances of his death. Later he became chief of the Evidenzbüro, the military intelligence. 1913 Oberstinhaber (in British terminology Colonel of the Regiment) of 16th infantry, and in 1914 commanded VIII Corps against Serbia, was relieved of command after unsuccessful offensive and received half-pay. His younger brother Wladimir reached also general rank, was mainly used in diplomatic function and in 1914 as ambassador in Belgrad had to deliver the fateful ultimatum to Serbia.

Austro-Hungarian marches are using a lot of austrian and hungarian folk song melodies, specially the regiment marches
